I do want to note that dogs are not allowed inside this building with the breakable Christmas decor. They also have their own small parking lot that you can park in.

I like to support local businesses but very often this Ace location doesn't have what I need or…read morepresents me with other bad shopping experiences like items ringing up for significantly more than the shelf tag or long waits to check out. I'll have an irritating experience so will avoid going there for a while, then there'll be something I need in the middle of a project and I'll decide to try again. Part of the problem is the store has limited stock and because of the small size, things are sometimes not easy to access or find- like up on the top of shelves so you need to get help to even see what they have. I will say they seem to have done re-organization and the layout seems a bit better- also the nursery has gotten better recently (plants look better and prices are easier to identify). Maybe just bad luck but today I needed a few spring planting items that I was pretty sure they carried. It turned out they were out of both of the products but I found substitutes that could work- especially since I didn't want to drive to Novato or downtown San Rafael. When I went to pay, after standing in a long line, I found the total came over $5 more than the shelf tags indicated and also they didn't accept the Ace Hardware gift certificate I planned to use towards my purchase so I cancelled the transaction. While I would love to shop locally, both for the convenience and to keep money in my community it's not worth the potential for frustration so will continue to go to Pini or the Chase locations for my hardware purchases

The items were reasonably priced and since I am a teacher, there were some great classroom ideas I got from little fairytale houses I can build up in our local kinder garden that we have in front of my center. She had some cute $.15 wooden hearts and stones for decorations in your Potted succulent aquariums! I don't know exactly what I will do yet with my kinders, but I did get some great inspiration! I will definitely be back once. I figure out how the children and I can decorate our own little potted plants and I will go back and buy a bunch of little succulents or maybe those little cute Floating plant succulents. Each time I ask about a product, more specifically along wall of plant products, not once have one, two, or three staff on duty been able to answer questions regarding products. I realize this may be asking too much, to have knowledge on a wall of product, but there must be a way for mngmt. to help them learn enough to answer questions(Mngmt please write basic info about groups of product, figure out a system to help customers : ). I had tried something for indoor plants, used this for a month until almost empty, did not work as directed. Went in again to buy another product similar. I took a new bottle off shelf of the one I had been trying, to show two employees and ask questions as to what I might be doing incorrectly. I also brought to counter another similar product to buy. Staff was nice, although knew nothing pertaining to what either product does or how to use it possibly differently than what I was doing. They put both items next to each other and read the ingredients. Maybe I should have brought the empty container/receipt and ask for refund, not sure. Could be a brand issue but I needed help, so I bought similar and hope it works but would have appreciated insight/suggestions on the two product(the used one and the new one). Hubs and I took pics of the area in question and Hubs, being the Engineer of our project was able to give square footage. From that Pepper was able to direct us to her nursery and make viable suggestions. Most necessary were plants that would help with reducing water evaporation. Check. Next, Hubs wanted Pennywort and Creeping Jenny. Check. I wanted variety in height and color. Check. Had to stay on budget. Check. Looks like all boxes are checked! Potted plant prices are comparable to many other nurseries, and bulk seeds are much cheaper than other nurseries. The most memorable aspect of our long visit was Mr. O'Donnell himself--such an intriguing person with so much passion for what he does, and so much knowledge from decades spent making observations in the wild. He seemed delighted to teach about plants and the environment and to make suggestions for our garden. Looking forward to our next visit.

Gone were the seasonal parties and sales, gone was the fun and whimsey of the place. And the people who worked there, the real stars were mistreated by the monster and some left. Now the monster is gone, but this place hasn't come back to what it was. It seems that they don't have the same energy and vibe. But the plants aren't as vast as they were in the past. I will try them again. I was touched by the stories of people who took plants home to care for them when the monster closed the business. I'm glad that Annie is working with a group of employees to get the business back up and running. It's just that now, they are a promising shell of a once great business. I'm pulling for a better experience on my next visit. I'm confident that will happen.
