Really took the time to sit down with me and discuss my options. Was easy working with Darrin and Chris because we were all pretty similar mentalities about tuning cars. "Hell, I even paid retail" for my alignment and RSR coilover install but I still rocked their sticker for them at 86Fest because of such a beautiful and timely install they did for my black Scion FRS. In between an aggressive and mild drop. Good street / sporty settings for alignment... and taught me how to tweak my coilovers in the future. I'm trying to track my car more and more so I am sure I will be back to these guys eventually. SUPER nice and SUPER pro. Do your research, tell them EVERYTHING beforehand and be on time. I really apologize if this review is somewhat overdue. This place was recommended to me by SB Autohaus. I have to say at first you have to question why the only available appointment is sometime next week but when you get there...when you get there! Darin and Chris are the team to beat. I love the fact that they take time with all their customers explaining and not just handing over your keys saying 'OK, everything is set. Shall we go inside and settle the bill?' They take time to also talk and I mean talk to their customers. You feel very at home, don't let two chairs and an outdated vending machine throw you off. Chris was able to correctly align my car after my I had coilovers put in only to realize it was lopsided. He and I were able to work out how little I wanted the car raised. I HARDLY ever rub when I'm in the car. I don't expect it to go away when I have other people or things in it though. They're not that magical but pretty damn close. You guys/girls ever wonder what happened to good old customer service? You know the kind that you see on happy TV - greets with a smile and intro? Asks you about your day, your plans for Thanksgiving - you know, the more personable type of customer service, the kind that offers you some good coffee while you are in your car 10 feet above ground? The ones that check on you to see if you are good every 20mins or so. Look no more, these guys are customer first!!!! Everything Chris asked me before he started work on my newly built Civic started with, "what do you...." You see, he tunes suspension to how YOU would like it. Not just some BS numbers for OEM specs when your car isnt even close to being stock any more! He provided great feedback on a few different suspension settings for driving and gave me his best opinion based on the data I gave to him for my current driving style my hopes of tracking racing the car a few times out of the year. Chris is a great educator and awesome guy. The car runs so much better - is more predictable, quieter, and most of all so much funner to drive even on crappy tires! West End is amazing. The owner, Darren is very, very professional and very, very anal about doing quality work. The shop is clean, he runs on-time and performs work exactly on quote. He told me to be there at 11, I arrived on time and I my car was on the rack in 5 minutes. We raised the car, re-corner balanced (within 1lb!) and aligned the car to my specs The car drives straight, the wheel is aligned, and everything works perfectly. Darren did the original coil-over install about 3 years ago and I had a similar experience then. Since then someone else replaced the front shocks an swore up and down that he'd match the settings that Darren originally dialed-in. Since that experience, the car has never driven straight, the wheel has never been centered, etc. Computerized alignment is a joke. Darren does it the old-skool way and it pays off. Much more precise, and its nice to know you have a competent professional doing the work, vs a low-grade grease monkey just doing what the computer told him to do. He charged a fair rate for the corner balance and alignment, (with me in the car) and the process took 3 hours - so if you plan to stay and have your weight factored in, bring a book. He's typically booked up a few weeks in advanced, and is booked solid in late-spring, right before all the track events start up. He'll work on anything and knows his stuff. A great place if you want a high quality job done. I drove about an hour to get to West End, and I'd do it again. Darin was friendly, meticulous, and very helpful. I knew it was going to be a long appointment, so I brought along a book. I ended up talking with Darin the whole time instead though, seated high above the ground, as he performed the alignment and corner balancing of my S2000. He even gave me a piece of Li Hing Mui candy! Score! I found prices to be fair, and the work is definitely worth it. After hitting a huge ass pothole on one of the beautiful streets in culver city, I had to get my rim repaired and my car realigned. So after numerous recommendations, I decided to take my car to Darin at West End. He's one of those old school born and raised torrance Japanese cats who can shoot the shit with anybody. About his work: EXCELLENT. He spent a few hours setting my coilovers to the exact height that i wanted, and corner balanced the car to within a couple lbs. And the alignment was perfect. If you own a sports car and care about having a proper alignment, this is the place to come. I called with not much lead time, asking if they could fit me in since I had an upcoming track day and needed a new alignment. Darin said he'd work to fit me in, and just asked me to be patient if it took a little longer than normal. No problem! Arrived a bit early and he actually got me in before my appointment. First things first, Darin takes the time to talk to you about you car -- what you have, what you are looking for, how it drives, how you want it to handle, etc. Darin is an accomplished track/autox driver himself and is a great resource. Could not be happier! This coming from a car enthusiast who is extremely picky about who touches my car. I drive a '12 VW GTI, and I had just lowered it on coils. Obviously, when you change the suspension, you have to get an alignment. I stumbled upon this place through yelp, as I was searching for shops around my area. I was helped by Darin & Chris. Both extremely nice guys who just know what they're doing. Both of them are local guys too, they actually both grew up in my neighborhood. First they asked me what i'm looking for in the alignment and camber. I told them it's a daily driver, and I just want my wheels straight with no camber, to treat my tires right. They took care of the camber for me, then put me inside the car as they did the alignment. I would test drive it, come back and give my feedback, then they would adjust accordingly until I was 100% satisfied. Once I was happy, they gave me the bill, and I got even happier! For the quality of work they did, the price was amazing to me. I recommend this shop to ANYBODY, no matter what type of car you have. These guys are awesome. read more

Charged me an 1.5 hours for regular alignment while it should not really take more than 30 to 45 minutes so an hour charge should have been fair i also I Left the car to come back and find him working on another car. He took the car for a test drive before he starts working on and when he came back he asked me why am I looking to do the alignment which means he did not find anything wrong while testing it. For starters, I've had all sorts of problems getting my 1999 Miata aligned in the past. So much so that I bought a 3-year unlimited plan from one of those chain tires shops. After three failed attempts in two days to get the car driving straight, I decided to take the advice of Yelp and my local autocross gang and go to West End. If you've had alignments done at mom-and-pop shops before, you might find them a little pricey -- for my car it was just about the same price as an alignment at the dealer. But I'm pretty sure the dealer won't do custom alignments outside of their specifications. For the amount of time that was put in, I feel it was a pretty fair price. A few yelpers complained about customer service. My experience was about as good as it gets. Sometimes it's hard to get shops to take the Miata seriously. One tech told me I didn't need to sit in it during the alignment because "it's not a Mazerati or anything." I got none of that from these guys. From the get-go I felt like I had his full attention and expertise at my disposal. Time opened up earlier in the day so I was contacted and was able to move my appointment up. They talked to me about how I drive and what I want from the car. They allowed me (even asked me) to sit in the car while the alignment was done. They took the time to adjust the position of the steering wheel to my liking, (to me, it was about a half a degree off after my test drive, but that's a pretty subjective thing.) They had me test drive the car before I paid. This is key; it ensures that you're satisfied before you hand over your hard-earned cash. That seems like a brilliant customer service strategy to me. All in all, there's not much that could have made my experience better. I mean, I guess it would have been nice if there had been some coffee or tea for me to sip on while I waited... But I'm not taking a star off for that. FYI: It was Chris who worked on my car, except for the final steering wheel adjustment. Everyone I talked to recommended Darin by name, but I'm perfectly satisfied with Chris' work. Keep up the good work fellas; I'm sure we'll meet again. read more

darin has been doing the alignment on my car since i've had my car brand new over 15 years ago. chris has done my car a couple times since he got brought on board as well. both are fantastic at what they do and they always take care of my car whenever i come in. keep in mind to not forget your appointment, i've heard people have been banned if they miss it without notice. their window of notice is a full 24 hours i think if rescheduling were needed. when doing the alignment, people can either: drive their car on the lift themselves and sit in it while they work, or they can do the work without the person sitting in it. i have always sat in my car as they do their thing because it'll be the most accurate in my opinion. i'm also fat, so it makes a difference. west end is in a small complex with a couple other businesses, lower car friendly. read more

If i could give West End a sixth star i would. I cannot tell you how absolutely refreshing it was to see a craftsman about his trade. Darrin is knowledgeable and is a suspension maestro. Better, he runs an honest business and isn't about bleeding you for as much money as possible. When I went there, he got my alignment as close as he could because I had a few adjusters frozen. When we were going over my options, he advised me to wait and drive it for a while before doing even more work on the car and just get the remaining work done when i did other suspension upgrades. When talking with other SoCal autocrossers, there seems to be a near universal consensus. West End is the unanimous choice. There are few shops I really trust with my automotive work. "legendary"? This place is a joke. I had such a high hope when I came to this place. People that say "computerized alignment is a joke", analog alignment is a joke and his cocky attitude fails even more when his skill fails. I originally went in for a simple alignment due to a slight pulling issue. It wasn't Darin that did the work, but it was his student. I did not care for I am getting a simple alignment on a stock g37s. After alignment, I noticed a huge drop in mpg. 65 miles less on full tank ( - 2.5 mpg). Pulling issue did not disappear either. I have backtracked through all the changes that was made on the car and it was obvious that it had to be the alignment (because that was all I did). I rescheduled to go back in to double check. During all these times, Darin gives a big attitude. Darin checked his work and tells me that the numbers are correct and he assumes that my ebreak might be an issue for getting a low mileage and there was a resistance on rear wheel. I am thinking, "is this a joke, this car is barely a year old". Knowing his reputation given by other drivers and his cocky tone of voice sounded so ensuring that I believed him. I went to different shops to check and confirmed that nothing was wrong. LASTLY, I went to another alignment shop and WALLA, I could not believe what I saw. The front right toe was off BY 2 DEGREES. The car now drives perfectly straight, without any rolling, and I get much better mileage (or rather restored from his shitty job). People might vouch for this guy but he can't even perform a simple alignment. I wasted $100 and days of work, and cost on checking on parts that were completely in working condition, and cost on doing another alignment work. bottom line: - expect to schedule at least a week - go there on time, and expect to wait even longer - expect to wait even longer while watching him talking to his friend while working on your car from time to time. - expect to get a bad job with dogmatic and cocky attitude. read more
