I visited twice before making my purchase, and even on the third time, no employees greeted me or followed up with me to ask if I needed assistance or was interested in anything. Twenty minutes passed before I fetched someone to help. I loved two tables I've been eying online and figured ordering in store would be faster and easier, but I had nothing but problems. Fast forward to my delivery date of item 1 of 2, the box and table are damaged. Oakbrook made me bring the table back myself, only for me to later find out that customer service would have sent someone to pick it up. Not only did I have to pack it back up and drive back there, I had to carry a thirty pound table through the mall in 30° weather with no assistance. There was no offer to expedite the replacement, no appeasement, and no apology. This luxury store offers far from luxurious customer service.

The center of my Andes couch that is caving in.

I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with the West Elm Andes couch that I purchased from the Oakbrook store. I believe that the quality of the product does not meet the standards expected of a reputable furniture retailer. Structural instability: The couch suffers from a noticeable lack of structural stability. It creaks and wobbles even during normal use, which is both alarming and highly inconvenient. This instability not only affects the overall comfort but also raises concerns about the long-term durability and safety of the product. (Known Issue) Sagging cushions: Within a short period of use, the seat cushions have developed significant sagging and loss of support. This not only affects the aesthetic appeal of the couch but also results in discomfort and an unsatisfactory seating experience. Considering the substantial investment I made in purchasing this couch, I expected a product that would withstand everyday use and provide a comfortable and visually appealing addition to my home. However, the issues I have encountered undermine my confidence in the West Elm brand and its commitment to quality. I have been trying to get a resolution since April 24th.

Separating at the seams

Bought a $2000 table and 10 months later the seams are opening up clearly defective And they won't even send someone out to look at it. I will never shop at West Elm again

Each time I've been here everyone gets something different, which I think says the menu has a good variety. The wine selection is good, and they have a couple affordable options. The outdoor waiting area is excellent if you get there early for a reservation and the weather is cooperating. Wait staff is very considerate. Overall great place. Some may feel the price is too high for the value, but when you're there it's one of those places. There isn't another place like it outside of Chicago.

The solarium atmosphere is stunning, the fountain is charming, and the greenery is lush and thoughtfully curated. From a design and aesthetic standpoint, it's incredible -- easily one of the most visually appealing dining spaces I've been in. The food was... good, but uneven. We started with the cheese and fruit platter, which was delicious and well done. The Caesar salad, however, missed the mark for me. And not because of the dressing -- it actually seemed like the lettuce had been freshly washed (which I appreciate), but it was still holding a lot of residual moisture. Unfortunately, that excess water diluted the Caesar dressing and left the salad soggy. That said, the croutons were to die for -- and that's saying something, because I usually hate croutons. For entrées, my husband ordered the salmon and I had the lobster roll. The lobster roll was excellent -- fresh, flavorful, and adding the caviar was the perfect touch. The salmon was cooked perfectly and tasted good, but it was nothing memorable. To be completely honest, it felt like something I could (and likely have) made at home. Well executed, just not special. Where the experience really fell apart for us was the service. Our server was absent for much of the meal and rarely checked back in. After we finished our entrées, he returned to clear the plates and apologized, explaining that he had been speaking with his manager. While that could be true, I spent many years working in the food service industry, and it's hard for me to understand why a manager would pull a server away from an active table for a prolonged conversation. Maybe that's what happened -- but regardless, it was a significant miss. Between the soggy salad, the standard salmon, and the spotty table service, I don't think we'll be returning. There are simply too many other places where a $200+ dinner feels more justified and better executed. I truly wanted to love this place -- the setting alone almost won me over -- but unfortunately, the overall experience didn't live up to the atmosphere.

I am not the type to write a review anywhere for bad service but this was truly an insufferable…read moreexperience. About a month ago i visited Joss and Main in Oakbrook and found a dresser that i absolutely adored. I was told it was final sale and discounted as he design and color would be being discontinued shortly. I wanted to act fast so i wouldn't loose the opportunity, so i ordered two dressers for my new apartment to be shipped across country to meet me there when i arrived. I also had purchased the matching nightstand and a bed frame to go along with it. The first issue i had was when ordering the bed frame. If i had ordered it to my new apartment, it would arrive before my lease started. Joss and Main suggested i ordered it to my current address and traveled with it and scheduled the installation when i was ready and moving into my new apartment (across the country might i add). They assured us that it would NOT be an issue and that their contracted team could build the bed frame at a different address than the delivery address. When I went to make these changes after the bed frame had arrived, their contracted team said that Joss and Main had not made a ticket for my item and therefore would not be building the bed. Thankfully, i was able to get a refund for this. So, now we have to build the bed frame, not an issue, building furniture isn't bad, just another thing to do when moving in. The following issue is where service truly took a turn and no one at both Joss and Main or Wayfair knew what was going on: Two days before the two dressers were supposed to arrive, i got a notification that they were delayed by three days--originally arriving on July 20th, now arriving on the 23rd. That's alright, i can deal with that, I've already been living out of suitcases and we are still driving across the country anyway. The day before they are supposed to arrive, i get an email saying that the dressers were BROKEN in transit and that Joss and Main would be sending new ones. If you recall, i got these dressers final sale as they were being discontinued, so i wanted to call and make sure they were still going to be sending the same dressers since they were discontinued. On the phone, they assured me that they were the same dressers and that they would now be arriving on July 27th, a full week after they were supposed to be delivered the first time. That's alright though, I'll keep living out of suitcases. On the 24th i check my wayfair portal to track the shipment and see that the replacements are being sent to a DIFFERENT address than the originals! An address that was on file from 3 years prior. I call and make sure they have the correct address listed and they assure me that it's a bug on my end and that the address was showing correct in their end. On the 26th, the day before they are supposed to arrive (i hope you're noticing a pattern), i get a notification that they would not be delivered until the 30th, tracking still showing the dressers in Texas. At this point I'm frustrated but still understanding that things happen and shipments get delayed. In the 29th i get an email saying that now the dressers will not be arriving until AUGUST 8th! This is outrageous at this point so i call again and im aggravated this time. I explain what all has been happening and that im looking at the tracking and it says that the dressers have arrived in the state i live in but wont be delivered for over a week. The woman leaves me on hold to find out what's happening. When she comes back on the phone she tells me that THE DRESSERS DONT EXIST!!!! She says that they are not coming because they aren't in stock. When i ask what i had been tracking she said "i don't know". She then asked if i would like a refund for them... um yes? I don't want to pay for dressers that are allegedly not showing up. I then asked how this happened and what would have happened if i hadn't called and she said "they likely would have kept delaying them until someone noticed that they were no longer in stock". THAT. IS. INSANE. Now, I'm looking for new dressers, NOT from Joss and Main OR Wayfair. I have my friend help me looking for dressers that would match the nightstand that DID somehow arrive. She turns her screen to me and says "wait these are perfect!" I look over and see that the SAME DRESSERS and still being listed in Wayfair and Joss and Main!! Genuinely don't understand what is going on. Joss and Main took me on a ride, a very expensive one at that.

I ordered it for black Friday so it would arrive before Christmas and I never actually received it. The worst part is that no one ever reached out to me to tell me it got damaged in transit TWICE. You've got to be quick in the outlet if you like something! We found a couch that we liked reasonably well (it wouldn't have been my ideal color but for such a hefty discount from list price we would accent it with colorful pillows and deal), but we wanted to check one other place and also grabbed lunch, which all told took about an hour. Came back and the only couch that was gone was...that one! It wasn't meant to be, obviously, but I couldn't believe how fast that moved. They have lots of options for living room, dining, bedroom and outdoor furniture with a modern aesthetic. Not as big a showroom as the one in Chicago, but the addition of the outlet is a bonus here.

This experience really changed how I feel about shopping with Room & Board…read more I understand the outlet model. I understand inventory turns over quickly. I understand that outlet purchases have to be made in person and that items can't be held. What bothered me was the refusal to answer a very basic question: "Is the item still there?" I live downtown Chicago. After renting a car, I had driven out to the outlet and found several pieces I liked, but couldn't immediately make another trip. I called because I didn't want to drive all the way back out there for nothing. I was told they don't provide outlet inventory information because it could create a "domino effect" with people calling about items that may sell before they arrive. I understand that inventory isn't guaranteed. But I'm not asking for a guarantee. I'm asking for information. "It's currently here, but it may sell before you arrive" would be completely reasonable. Instead, the answer was essentially that they simply won't tell you. I even tried going to the Room & Board location near me to see if someone there could call the outlet and check. I was told no five different ways, each response becoming more and more unacceptable. And that's when I thought: This isn't really about inventory anymore. This is about customer service. I was already a potential buyer. I was willing to make the trip. I was trying to figure out whether it was worth making the trip. Instead, I went home and started looking elsewhere -- and found comparable pieces online that were easier to purchase and had more flexible return options. So yes, maybe this is simply Room & Board's business model for its outlet. But customers are also allowed to decide that the experience isn't worth it. I'm perfectly willing to accept "We can't hold it." I'm perfectly willing to accept "It may be gone by the time you arrive." What I don't understand is "We won't even tell you whether it's there." That's not a great customer experience, and it's enough to make me take my money somewhere else. And maybe that's the point but that's another issue I don't care to tackle here.
