I'm conflicted with this review because we got excellent service when we were in the store, but there was a mistake made at checkout. The woman who helped me was very kind and helpful. I was interested in a small dining table and told her that I preferred a "white glove service", so the table would be put together for my daughter upon arrival. She said it was not a problem, but that it was expensive. I was fine with that and asked for the service. It came up less expensive than she thought on her computer and shrugged it off as a discount and put the order through, handing me my receipt, which I left with. Weeks later, my daughter said she had called about rescheduling the delivery for when we should be home, but they weren't able to do that, or that she would be called prior to delivery and at that point, would be able to reschedule, which made no sense to me, so I decided to call since I was the original purchaser of the table - my name was on the receipt. When I called, there seemed to be a lot of confusion about where my order was and where it was going. After being put on lengthy holds multiple times, the gentlemen who was helping me told me that white glove service is not available for the item I purchased and he wasn't sure why I was told that. Well, neither was I! Long story short (or shorter) is that they had to cancel my order and I had to reorder it to change the delivery dates, and that wasn't even very specific. It changed again on it's own and fortunately, it worked out to when my daughter was home, but I expected more from this company. The sales person should have been better trained at the store, and the shipping delivery should have been easier to change. I mean, people work and go out of town and have lives. I honestly really like West Elm products and the people who work in their stores. I've never had a poor experience in the past, but maybe I never had a reason to really use their customer care line. It was complicated, to say the least. I still recommend their products, but cross your fingers that everything works out on the delivery end. The service is fine in the store downtown but there is a complete lack of communication with the shipping and delivery companies. The WORST customer service I have ever paid extra for in my life. "White Glove" service amounted to two separate deliveries instead of a single delivery. The second delivery was never actually scheduled to a specific time (so I could make sure I was home) but someone (one person) showed up randomly to deliver a 135 pound piece of glass by himself. My girlfriend had to recuit the guys landscaping the yard next door to help bring in the table. No one ever called me with a window of time as promised so I had to constantly check in with them to see where my order was and it's status. (I thought I was the customer in this situation?) This was so useless that I had to call all three separate companies. Each time I ended up calling the local store who would then start the entire process over again. Will not use West Elm again. Ordered a dining room table set consisting of 1 table and 8 chairs, totaling $3400. After our order was placed and paid for we were told the order would be delayed for 3-4 months. At month 3 we were notified the entire order would be delayed an additional 2-3 months. At month 6 we received the order and the table was damaged. New table arrived 4 months later. Over the course of the timeframes listed above my wife and I spent an estimated 3+hrs dealing with this to get any type of update. Customer service overall was rude, non-apologetic, and offered no type of compensation. In the past year & 1/2, 3 of the 8 chairs have broken, with their backs falling off when a guest has sat in them. We are talking about use of a chair by persons under #200, with the chairs very well taken care of. Calling customer service about this repeating issue I was told to use their 3rd party partner to get an estimate to fix the chairs. Customer service manager continued to speak down to me when asked if $2500 for 8 West Elm chairs should last longer than 1.5yrs. read more

Kissin' cousin to Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma Home, which are all owned by the Williams Sonoma company, West Elm is more boho-hip-loft-modern than their retail-relatives. But the professional merchandising of those stores and good customer service one enjoys at Pottery Barn or Williams Sonoma Home also applies here. My preferred home style of casually traditional has me stepping back and forth between Pottery Barn and Wms Sonoma Home as better fits for me, but in the mode of appreciating the unexpected as part of a home mix, I have on rare occasion spied just the right thing at West Elm's web page or in this Boise downtown store to go buy it there. As in the "That's IT!" very small red lamp to position on top of a high furniture piece in a guest room. Not only in fitting the "JUST what I was looking for" but at a great price point too. When West Elm has, like Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma Home, frequent big discount sales times it is a very good thing. Parking associated with the downtown Boise store is just too difficult for me to make this destination shopping, but from time to time I'll wander in if I need to be in the area for some other reason and I always enjoy the experience for interesting things to see and ample floor space in aisles and between displays for all customers to be comfortable shopping there. read more

I had been looking for the Malone 3 drawer dresser in white and was told there was only 1 and it was at this store. Not only did they have it, they had it still in the box ! Good news for me! Bad news for me was that the box was 2 inches too long to ship ups . Good news they agreed to hold it for me until we could figure shipping out! More good news I was able to order it thru the online website and get it delivered to me in San Francisco!!! The people in this store are really sweet and so helpful!!! If I could, I would rate West Elm a 0 rating. We offer free design services. We'll that's BS! Lauren had scheduled an appointment with me about 6 weeks ago. She never showed up. The service was rescheduled and she did show up a week later. She informed me she works part-time for W.E. and has her own business. She walked around for a few minutes and said she would get back to me in 4-5 weeks. It's been almost 7 weeks since her visit and I have not even received an email requesting more time for my design. So far, crickets..... I visited the store to look around for my own design. When I walked in, there were 2 sales people standing at the register chatting away. I walked around on my own and noticed 2 additional designers chatting away as well. I walked around for almost half an hour with absolutely no inquiry from sales or design personnel. For an over priced, over staffed organization (part of same group as Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn, etc) I would have expected a little services at the very least. No business from me and I discourage others to shop elsewhere! I found a place named American The Beautiful Dreamer/Renditions at 333 N. Cole Rd. Boise (208) 375-9775 to be extremely easy to work with and provide outstanding customer service. They are delivered the bulk of my new furniture today! Highly recommended them. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. In September we ordered two chairs that were in stock not a custom order. They were delivered to the delivery service/warehouse. They never reached out to set up a delivery time. We had to call them. They would never answer. We would leave voicemail after voicemail and couldn't get them to call us back. It's now 2 months later we finally got someone on the phone. We set up a delivery time and low and behold they never showed up and never called. So now two weeks later we're still calling everyday trying to get these people on the phone and now their voicemail is full. Like they ever called us back to begin with. Long story short, it's been over two and a half months of our furniture sitting at the delivery center and we still can't get someone on the phone to see what the heck is going on. This review is for the online service, not the physical store. The store is actually very nice and has great customer service. I went to the store to look at the fabric material and see if they had any pieces on display for the sectional I wanted. I placed my order in January 2021 and my nightmarish experience dragged on till August 2021. First, after many delays, the furniture got delivered in July. West Elm talks about a white glove delivery - it was more of a black glove delivery. The delivery crew turned up with grubby hands leaving stains on the white sectional and had no idea how they were supposed to install. After some trial and error, they claimed they had 'installed' it and left. Well, when we tried to use the sectional, one part kept separating from the other and we figured a 3K sectional shouldnt be so flimsy. We called West Elm again and they said they would send a 'medic' to inspect the installation. This medic turned out to be the same delivery company, but thankfully another person who knew about installation and actually installed the furniture. All this, after multiple emails and following up with West Elm and the local delivery company. Bottom line, the physical locations are great for knick knacks and smaller furniture that you can take home with you. Same for online, order things that dont need installation or you can install on your own. I would never order larger furniture from West Elm. read more

Worst delivery and customer service experience ever. If I could give 0 stars I would. I have been battling customer service to get a dresser I ordered online for about 3 weeks now. Once my order tracking showed as "ready to schedule" I called West Elm to schedule my delivery. I had to call 3 times before I was finally routed to the correct delivery carrier. After speaking to the carrier I was told West Elm failed to load my item on the truck. Another call to West Elm and I was told the carrier was incorrect and I needed to call them back with various tracking numbers to locate it. Again I called the carrier with the tracking numbers and again was told the item was not loaded and that this information was indeed reported back to West Elm. So yet again I called West Elm to get an updated timeline. The customer service agent had no record of my item not being loaded on the truck until she called the carrier herself. West Elm could not provide an updated ETA or even a date that my "re-ordered" item was supposedly loaded onto another truck. West Elm's lack of information and resolve is appalling. The cost of the product and delivery is way too high for non-existent customer service. Don't waste your money or your time. read more

We ordered a TV console that had to be picked up in store. When I got the console home to assemble, one of the legs was broken. The hardware inserted into the leg was done incorrectly, the hole was too big and the leg was splintered. I contacted the store to ask for assistance replacing the leg. I was informed that customer support would contact me that week to assist me. Two weeks later I'd not heard back and contacted customer support myself, where my call was dropped twice after being on hold for 20 minutes and not having contact with someone. After I made contact, the poor customer support gal had to inform me that they do not offer replacement parts, I would have to bring the entire console back to the store to be replaced. For the amount of money spent on this piece of furniture, and the amount of effort I had to put in getting it home (it's quite large and required a truck and a second person at least to move) I am told I have to return the entire piece to the store to replace a single leg, that was broken upon deliver. For the cost and effort, you'd expect better quality. My spouse and I joke about the furniture in the store being out together hastily we assumed not much effort went into assembling just the display pieces but that seems to carry over into every furniture piece. Now I'm stuck with a very large box of expensive furniture in my living room that can't be assembled. (Update: the day after I packed up the furniture and returned it, I received a box with four new legs in the mail. I was not informed, nor was the store I was making a return at or the customer service rep that I had spoken with that there were replacement parts in the mail, after being told repeatedly that they "don't do replacement parts") read more

This business is more expensive than competitors like Pier 1, but less than William-Sonoma. The deal first deal I struck was for a 20-piece silverware set for 4 at the price of $59.99, where the price for 1 was $19.99, saving $20 in the long run. Amazing customer service at this store! I fell in love with an item I saw at westelm.com. However, the shipping cost ($300) for $300 in merchandise was a deal breaker to me and according to corporate, they couldn't ship it via UPS. So... I decided to call this store to see if they had it in stock, since I would be willing to drive the four hours each way to purchase this item. I was told that they did have one in stock at one time, but that it had been broken and wasn't available for purchase. This associate (I wish I had gotten her name) went above and beyond for me, bless her heart! She was amazingly helpful. She checked to see if other stores had it in stock and advised me that they would possibly ship via UPS, which would be cheaper than the $300 flat rate delivery service the website uses. She found some stores that had several in stock and gave me their phone numbers. If I had needed further assistance, she encouraged me to call back in a couple days when she would be working again. I really wish my item had been in stock in this store because I really want to give this store my business. I will certainly go out of my way to shop here in the future! The furniture is nice, one of our better options in Boise but seriously save yourself the trouble and order online! The store clerks are either extremely slow, it took half an hour to return two pillowcases one, or they are shameful pretentious. On more than one occasion the manager or other employee has been so rude and short. I get that it's a nicer store but oh my God, they're not better than everybody else. Regarding Stylist and Sales Person, Laura Johnson!! Way too much to say about this lovely lady! If I could rate her much higher, I would. Laura goes above and beyond, and that is an understatement. We recently moved from Seattle to the Boise area, and we have looked at several options for furniture, as well as spoken to a few designers. Laura was one of those. She came out to our home and after a lot of research (but by the next day!), she put together a list of resources in the area, as well as a West Elm list with options, based on our desired style. She is truly the reason why we ended up buying so much from West Elm. We will buy even more in the near future. :) Laura is not only kind, but incredibly knowledgeable about all products West Elm and others sell. I got a great deal on a couch and I am in love with it. However, customer service is lacking. I was told three different prices on the same couch and the staff were less than kind. They seemed annoyed with me and made my first experience buying a piece of furniture disappointing. If I didn't love the furniture so much I wouldn't go back in.
