The sandwich was goats cheese and was really delicious, with very crispy bread and beautiful fillings. The brownie, too, did not disappoint! It has been one of the better brownies I've tasted around Brighton of late - sticky, gooey and just right! It was very chololatey, though, and by no means small so it's a possible sharer, if you don't have quite as much of a sweet tooth as I do. The place itself is dinky, but cosy and comfortable still. The food selection was great for a cafe of this size, and they even catered for vegan and gluten-free diets by the looks of it. There was even...wait for it... free wifi! Hurrah! This is always a bonus, in my books, so it was a rather great find, on top of my delicious lunch. Tucked away in one of the busier lanes, this place could be easy to miss, but next time you're wandering around, keep your eyes peeled and pop in for some cake or a sandwich!

It was pretty close to closing so too late for me to have coffee, we tried the iced tea instead. Plus their iced tea was made from rooibos so caffeine free! I'm really glad we got the tea as it was so refreshing on that hot day! Sweet, floral, with a nice balance of citrus. And of course the barista put in a lot of ice to make it cold. The perfect summer drink if you're looking for something other than coffee. I wish we had room to try their delicious looking cakes and treats, there are so many to choose from and I always love cafes that have a range of food options. The cafe is two floors and we sat upstairs. The window let in a lot of sunlight with two cute painted murals on the back wall framing the window. A very nice space, I had an enjoyable time sitting and relaxing here. The only downside is they have no wifi. But overall a lovely cafe in a great location.

This is an ideal place to sit and soak up the sun whilst watching the world go by- the location at the beginning of the North Lanes means that it's not right in the thick of it, but not too far off the beaten track. The food is simple and yummy. They do a great breakfast special- you can get crumpets, toast or a bagel with jam for only £1.25! They do all the usual teas and coffees as well as delicious smoothies. If you're in the mood for a treat, they also have a great selection of homemade cakes and the lunchtime options such as sandwiches and jacket potatoes are yummy too - the jacket with chilli is especially good. All in all the food is inexpensive, the service is really friendly and the location is great- what more could you ask of a café?

It's primarily a recreation park, though: there's a children's playground, basketball court, bowling green, two football pitches and 12 tennis courts, all for hire. There's also a climbing boulder, suitable for children. At the north end, there's a miniature steam railway, which runs on elevated tracks. Trains are operated on summer week-ends by volunteers. It's quite reasonably priced, but service is rather haphazard, especially when they are busy. Also at the southern end is Hove Park's great claim to fame, "the Goldstone". This huge rock, weighing about 20 tons, is commonly believed to have been used by the Druids for worship. Legend has it that the devil threw it there while excavating Devils Dyke, the deep valley through the Downs above Hove. In the 1830s, the landowner was so fed up of tourists coming to gawp at it, that he buried it! It was unearthed and restored to public view in 1900. The Park is a ten minute walk from Hove railway station and is served by Brighton & Hove bus routes 55, 56, 59, 27A and 5B.

Still, if you don't want to trek to Brighton it is a bit of a seller's market and the bar offers an adequate alternative to the city. A good time to swing by is the post 5pm work period for a quick pint or two period. They will regularly send around complimentary snacks and nibble to tables, which more than make up for the drink prices. An especially good summertime venue, where the outdoor patio catches all of the afternoon and early evening sun. I have never eaten at the Square, but seen enough food to class it as reasonable. They do offer specials in the £8-£15 region, but I would suggest trying the food over a lunch break where you aren't competing with evening drinkers. If you looking for an atmosphere a little more highbrow than a pub, then this may be the place for you.

Annoyingly, since last month the council have decided to charge diners to park in the adjoining car park - it seems anywhere there's a whiff of a commercial outlet there they are, ratching up the taxes on parking. I do wonder sometimes why shops and restaurants let them get away with it, it must damage trade quite a lot. Anyway, given that you've got change for the parking and can afford the extra tax on your meal, inside the cafe you'll find it's quite plain - the decor is unimaginative but it's clean and the service is friendly. This is a great place to go for breakfast or lunch, with good old English breakfasts for veggies and meat eaters, jacket potatoes, sandwiches and so on. We had two large veggie breakfasts, complete with coffee and tea, for £14.00. The food was very good, and the portions generous (1 egg, veggie sausage, beans, tomatoes, mushrooms, slice of toast or fried bread, plus sauteed potatoes). A classy, romantic place for dinner it is not, but if you're looking for a clean café that does all-day breakfasts, you're in business. And the staff are very helpful and friendly. In fact, I left my handbag on the seat by mistake, and they very kindly kept it safe for me until I went back. Now that's honesty! The cafe is wheelchair friendly, on the ground floor. The adjoining toilet block is cleaned by Wettons on behalf of the local authority. It wasn't very clean and the soap dispenser was empty! But it was free to use, and situated on the ground floor so I think could be okay for disabled users. This is also a good place for dog owners. There is a seating area outside, and I spotted a large metal doggie bowl filled with clean water while I was there, so your beloved pooch will be able to have a fresh drink and feel welcome. Two tiny criticisms (which I feel almost guilty about after the staff's kindness with my bag, but I will anyway!): sometimes they clean the cafe with strong-smelling bleach while diners are still in there. This does nothing for the dining experience! In fairness they didn't last time and might have stopped doing it these days, but watch out if you're a straggler around mid-afternoon when they're cleaning, just in case! The other tiny whinge is: last time they had a notice saying that customers are not allowed in the seating area at the back of the cafe because it is closed. It would be far more polite simply to say "This section is closed - sorry". Overall though, a good place for breakfast or lunch at a reasonable price.

It does so well because the food is top notch as far as greasy spoons go and with on site, easy parking many people go here before a round of golf or before other activities. The service is always efficient and you are never left waiting long. The last time I went in there I met 3 people I knew which made me realise that it must be kept open by those well known locals who would rather drive an extra 5 minutes for quality rather than settle for mediocrity nearby.
