The Big Beach Cafe based at Hove Lagoon is part-owned by local resident Norman Cook aka Fat Boy…read moreSlim. He set it up, not as a money making exercise, but to provide the local residents with a great place to grab a coffee and something to eat in what is actually a pretty under serviced area. It's a great spot, a stone's throw from the sea, and next to Hove Lagoon with all it's watersports facilities, and the play park. This ensures a huge customer base, particularly on a warm and sunny day. As well as the great location, it's actually a pretty decent place, with plenty of seating plus space for the smalls to run around, a small play area which is useful but does need updating with some newer toys, a bar area, and toilets with a baby change area. There is also a really large outdoor seating area, again perfect if you are there with the kids. The menu is pretty extensive for a cafe with breakfasts, light lunches, seasonal specials, fresh bakes and a selection of yummy looking cakes. Gluten free and vegan options are also available. The children's menu is pretty good too, with a good hot selection as well as the usual packed lunches. Ice creams are also available and there is even a fully licenced bar! This is a great place to come for a bite to eat when you are in the area. Kids and dogs are totally welcome, staff are friendly but it can get a little busy at peak times to be prepared to wait to place your order at the counter.

My first fish and chips in the UK!!!!!!!!!!!!! And it was delicious. To be fair, I'm going to guess…read morethat the fish and chips throughout the rest of the country don't charge what the Bridge Inn charges. Though the 11-12GBP was totally worth it. The tatar sauce was to die for - I have no idea what was in that stuff, but it was amazing. The fish didn't have too much breading on it, which I like. Plus it stayed crunchy up until the end (though I did split it, so about half the normal eating time). The chips were just fine, nothing special, and the mashed peas were lacking in flavor - I was hoping for a little more mint. We also had the crab cake - which was more like a potato pancake. I'm not sure I tasted any crab in it at all. But there were all kinds of veggies in there, and the breading was good on that as well. It tasted good - just didn't taste like crab. The hummus was delicious - the bread hot, and lots of flavor in the hummus. The staff was super friendly and sat us right away. It does get busy on a Saturday night, so be sure to get there a bit earlier (we arrived around 6:30) to get a seat. The wine selection is pretty good and reasonably priced. I did not drink beer, but they had a few craft beer options that I saw. Overall great place to spend some money on some delicious food with a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
