The Big Beach Cafe based at Hove Lagoon is part-owned by local resident Norman Cook aka Fat Boy Slim. He set it up, not as a money making exercise, but to provide the local residents with a great place to grab a coffee and something to eat in what is actually a pretty under serviced area. It's a great spot, a stone's throw from the sea, and next to Hove Lagoon with all it's watersports facilities, and the play park. This ensures a huge customer base, particularly on a warm and sunny day.
As well as the great location, it's actually a pretty decent place, with plenty of seating plus space for the smalls to run around, a small play area which is useful but does need updating with some newer toys, a bar area, and toilets with a baby change area. There is also a really large outdoor seating area, again perfect if you are there with the kids.
The menu is pretty extensive for a cafe with breakfasts, light lunches, seasonal specials, fresh bakes and a selection of yummy looking cakes. Gluten free and vegan options are also available. The children's menu is pretty good too, with a good hot selection as well as the usual packed lunches. Ice creams are also available and there is even a fully licenced bar!
This is a great place to come for a bite to eat when you are in the area. Kids and dogs are totally welcome, staff are friendly but it can get a little busy at peak times to be prepared to wait to place your order at the counter. read more
