If you are going to leave them behind 100% of the time, I don't think you will be satisfied here. I suggest you pay a lot of money and find a private place. - What I like - ・The location is in a natural setting and all the hairs are bright and have a view of the outdoors. ・There are many birds and animals and you can observe natural animals from your room. ・The garden is beautiful and you can sunbathe outdoors comfortably. I also like the rehabilitation here. ・The nurses work on a schedule so I can trust them even if you need medical care. - Dislikes - ・Linens such as sheets and towels are very old and uncomfortable to use. ・Hallways are smelly. ・The number of patients seems to exceed what the people who work here can tolerate to care for them. For those reasons, the care on weekends and at night is lousy. (To counteract the problems, family members can provide care or hire a care giver on the weekends.) ・The amount of money you pay is not balanced by the care you receive.

As if that wasn't bad enough, you can hear patients screaming for help from their rooms, yet staff ignore them. It's truly heart-wrenching to witness. My handicapped father was sent here for rehab, and what happened to him is beyond unacceptable. He has no use of his legs, and they left him hanging off the bed, completely unattended. It's clear they don't care about the well-being of their patients. The place is filthy and unfit for anyone to stay in. It should be shut down immediately. If you don't believe this, anyone can walk right in and go to any floor--security seems nonexistent. This is not a hospital; it's a house of horrors. Administration does a terrible job with communication, the food is barely edible. It took so long to get my son's diet correct (months) and when they finally did, it was cold with absolutely no taste whatsoever. I walked in to him being fed in a reclining position! He was dropped from his lift 3 times, his peg tube was yanked out during a night time changing! I was later told no incident reports were filed for these things!!! One day he had his roommate's clothes on, and his roommate had his on, as well as being in my son's custom wheelchair!! The mistake was very visible as they were completely different sized men, and both looked strange in what they were wearing. Complaints go unanswered for days weeks and months. The building itself is so poorly maintained, and absolutely filthy. I kept a bottle of Pine-Sol spray so that I could spray my son's bathroom down when I visited, so that I was able to use the faucets to wash him. Often times his roommates feces would be on the toilet the wall and the sink. The soap dispenser was broken for six weeks before I finally got administration to put a new one in. Safe to say, no one was washing their hands, but me! Often times, the same washbasin was used on all four roommates head to toe. I complained about this several times, absolutely horrified at how unsanitary and grotesque it was, and yet it took weeks and several complaints, before it was rectified! My son's clothes were mixed in with the community clothing, although there were signs everywhere saying that I did his laundry, subsequently, half of his clothing went missing, which was expensive. It is a revolving door of staff that spoke very little English, so it was very frustrating for many of the residents as the staff had no idea what they were saying, so naturally couldn't attend to their needs. Literally, call bells went unanswered for over an hour sometimes, while staff were on their phones. My son was fearful of his safety and well being. The final straw was an extremely dangerous situation that could have caused serious harm, or much worse, had I not walked in when I did! BEWARE!!!!

Attention to care is excellent. Food is great, a rarity in these places. Rehab has private rooms with your own shower. I felt like I was on vacation! Nice therapy gym and therapists are very good. Pickering Manor also has Personal Care, Memory Care and Skilled Nursing. All the areas have been totally redone. There is also independent living on the grounds. Check them out first!

I can not remember all of the nurses and nurses assistants names and I apologize for that. I don't remember my speech therapist name but the cognitive work she did with me was very reassuring that I wasn't as bad as I thought I was. And I can't even begin to say how fantastic my Occupational Therapist Amelia and Physical Therapist Keri were. The magic they worked on me can only be called just that MAGIC. In 2 weeks they got me ready to go home instead of having to go to a sub acute facility like I was originally told I would have to do. I can not express how thankful I am to everyone at St, Mary Rehab. As far as the food there were a few mix ups with the food I received but the food tasted good. Again thanks to all Saundra

I told her no one was answering the phones and her response, "Our nurses don't just sit around, they are busy!"
