This feverish review has been a long time coming. Take the five stars and double them, then double…read morethem again for each, Dr. Camilla and Dr. Georgie -- the most particularly awesome wife/husband practice in the history of EVER!
WHAT PARENTS NEED TO KNOW...
The pair of doctors are both thorough, they are very happy to answer questions (as well as their PA's) without parents feeling they are being talked down to. The practice is accommodating and when needed, will answer calls. Everyone makes children feel comfortable... which trust me makes a HUGE difference. Believe it or not, most pediatricians don't do that anymore. They really made our family feel that they had an extra special interest in our kiddo -- it was so many little things and in so many little ways. The doctors take the idea of 'family practice' and run with it. They get the gestalt of what pediatric practice used to be and has been forgotten.
Here is an example, more than once Dr. Georgie has called us at home to follow up on our daughter. Ok, so you say a return call, and that has happened, but one thing was remarkable. Our daughter had a fall at her school playground and had a radial sublimation of her right elbow (nursemaid's elbow). He saw our daughter in an emergency and brought his concern, gentleness and thoughts on what to do to the table. Unfortunately, he could not do the reduction successfully (sometimes that happens -- zero fault to any practitioner who can't in those circumstances). He said it would likely resolve itself whilst our daughter slept (as is common). I didn't ask him to call to follow up, later that evening, he did it on his own volition, he really wanted to know how she was. He also reached out to the former Pediatrics Chief of Department at Mount Sinai (in private practice) to see our daughter (even that doctor failed in the reduction) but by the following day, all was well. Those actions have set the bar impossibly high for other practitioners.
Now to Dr. Camilla, I may be touching on her second here, but we primarily saw her most often. As great as Dr. Georgie was, Dr. Camilla is first in our minds. We were referred to the practice from a friend when we came back to NYC after living abroad (and with new child in tow). Her professional wisdom set is phenomenal and she is very telegraphic in her concerns. Here is what is best, she knows how to connect to both parents individually to make sure they understand both details and the big picture.
Now a word on their PA's (physician's assistants), we saw two different ones in our time there. They too displayed the same attributes as both doctors. No doubt they were selected for their temperament and skill. On those times we saw them, we didn't feel as if we were getting less quality care, it was exactly the same.
And the nurses and office staff... ditto there as well.
You can't top the doctors. I don't believe it possible. Had their second practice not closed due to Mount Sinai Hospital taking over their Manhattan space due to COVID-19, my daughter would still be in their care. We have moved to Westchester County... if they have an office back in Manhattan, we would bring our kiddo in (as we do for her current pediatrician (a great practice... but nowhere as good on the spectrum).
I really hope this review helps parents to select a pediatric practice. I don't write many reviews, but this one is more than merited. If you live in Manhattan, consider taking the trip to Sunnyside, Queens and using urgent care if you need to for those issues that can not wait. And for both doctors, PA's, nurses and staff, we can never thank you enough (and curse you at the same time for not letting us achieve another pediatric practice anywhere close to what you have created) -- the Craig family
