Every time I stop here I get a screwed up order! I would rather drive to the what's burger in Lyle tx they don't screw up.

Charleys Cheesesteaks

Charleys Cheesesteaks

Somewhere between San Antonio and regret, nestled in a gas station that smells like windshield…read morefluid and Lotto dreams, lies Charley's Cheesesteaks. A culinary oasis for those brave souls who believe hot meat and melted cheese should always be within arm's reach--even if the nearest chair is bolted to the floor and covered in someone else's spilled Fanta. Charley's isn't here to impress you. Charley's is here because the laws of capitalism demanded that mall food have a second life. And what a life it is--reincarnated in this fuel-scented temple of compromise, where a man can contemplate his choices between pumps four and five. The experience? You order. You wait. You wonder why the speaker is yelling your number like it's a draft lottery. And then it arrives: a sandwich hot enough to burn your tongue, but not your soul. The bread is soft, the steak is chopped like it owes someone money, and the cheese is doing its best under the circumstances. There's a sense of dignity in that. Like a prom tuxedo from JCPenney--technically formal, spiritually fast food. And yet... you eat. Because it's 6:37 p.m., you're tired, you're mildly road-delirious, and this is your story now. This is road-trip cuisine in its purest form: not good, not bad--just there for you, like a friend who doesn't ask questions when you show up sad and greasy. Would I recommend it? Only to people I respect slightly less than I claim to. Would I return? Yes. Of course. I always do. Three stars. One for the meat, one for the nostalgia, and one for the fact that the bathroom wasn't locked.

Date: 11/08/2025 Time: 11:02 am…read moreOrder: 588981 For the last couple of years, have purposely stayed away from Whataburger down in the Corpus Christi area due to food quality and customer service. Today, on a trip back home from Uvalde to the Corpus Christi area, for lack of an actual fast-food restaurant besides McDonalds, we unfortunately made the quick decision to stop at this Whataburger and ordered via the drive thru. We ordered 1 Number 1 with cheese, no tomatoes, extra veggies with mustard and mayo. What we got was a Number 1 with Tomatoes. The mustard was only at the bottom of the sandwich. The sandwich was warm at best and the french fries were much worse as to temperature for 11:02 am. We (my wife) also ordered 1 Number 1 with cheese, ketchup and pickles only. We made the order, and she repeated it two more times as the young lady was apparently bound and determined to have mayo put on it. Apparently, she may have got confused with Mayo and Ketchup, or maybe it was their similar colors? Well, when my wife got her burger, it had Mayo and Pickles. No Ketchup and Pickles only. Again Maybe "MAYO" AND "KETCHUP" sound the same even after stating it 3 times? She also requested hot/crispy french fries. The French Fries were literally barely warm, more than likely because they were pre-cooked and set under a warming light. it's understandable that everyone makes mistakes, I get that but sometimes you have to stop and ask, what is going on! Mayo for Ketchup, No Tomatoes for Tomatoes. Warm as opposed to hot. Made YOUR way! They need to try and make it MY way, not theirs. They either don't know how to do their job or really don't care. I think it may be a little bit of both. This is the very reason after spending over $21.00 bucks and get the poor food quality/preparation that is why we swore off Whataburger. Probably should have got a taco at the local gas station. I don't know about anyone else, but $21.00 dollars is $21.00 dollars. I earned my money and worked hard for it. I want the same in return, $21.00 dollars' worth of food as it was ordered. Poor Form Whataburger! Literacy, basic understanding of how to do a job is necessary even with taking orders/preparing food for customers. Secondly, Hey management. Try "Pay for Performance" . Us older people had to do that, or we had to look for work elsewhere. Oh well, shame on us, as we stayed away from Whataburger based on this. We very well should have stayed away from this location for sure. An experience at MacDonalds would have been a lot better. Do what you want, we however are done with Whataburger.

Food ALWAYS delicious, made fresh. They put anything on your burger you ask for if they have it…read more I always order mine with grilled onions. Ground beef patty large and tasty!! Staff always friendly and helpful. We come here often. Ask for extra done fries... always accommodated. Good size serving. Tea tastes yummy, not the powdered stuff. They have a great menu. We really like the manager at the Hondo, Texas Whataburger.

Pulled into Hondo on a Wednesday night and the place was quieter than a library at midnight…read more Streets empty, sky stretching forever, and then like a beacon of sanity the orange and white of Whataburger came into view. Inside had its own charm. A few locals tucked into fries, a pair of lads by the window treating Dr Peppers like proper pints, and a cowboy tapping his boots to the radio like he owned the place. It was no steakhouse, but it had character. I ordered the Bacon Wrangler. Hot, heavy, and stacked like it had something to prove. Two beef patties, bacon crisp enough to snap, cheese melting into the lot, onion strings giving it crunch, and that chipotle sauce tying it all together. It was not just food, it was rescue in a paper wrapper. The service was exactly what you want at 9pm in small-town Texas. Quick, polite, and straight to the point. No nonsense, no waiting about. On my way back to the car I spotted a scruffy cat by the dumpster. Looked like it had seen better days, but it carried itself like it still owned the night. Reminded me that at some point we are all that cat, a little worn down, just trying to find our next meal and a warm spot to rest.
