It did not taste fishy at all and the rye bread had the best buttery crisp edges. River Street Tavern is cozy, casual and it has a compact lay out. You get to relax and can have a conversation over a few beers and good food. Place gets busy but is not loud. I don't know if she was not allowed to serve butter with bread or not, but we didn't get any (after my husband had to ask for bread,) but I suspect that if butter had been included it would have been rock hard. I'm well aware of rising operational costs and how trickle-down works, and I'm no stranger to restaurant and kitchen work, but details matter. It's the little things that matter.
