Literally the back porch of an antique store. I give this spot an extra star for their vegan options. Vegan wraps Vegan sandwiches Vegan Soups But they have more than just vegan food, there is there are salads, sandwiches, wraps and even some dessert options. This spot gets busy at lunch and there are not enough tables to fit everyone, but give it time and you will find a spot either inside or on the outside (back porch) area. It is a dog friendly foot, so bring your pet with you, everyone else seems to have taken them up on it. Service was so friendly, it was like a family gathering. But you want to know about the food: Vegan Chili - full of potatoes, corn, tomatoes and black beans, this was my FAVORITE dish. Mozzarella Wrap - it sounded good, but was just so-so and was horribly messy. Side salad - fresh, good and the dressing was amazing. Cuban Sandwich - another solid choice that was tasty and filling. The cran-turkey and the Italian grinder were wonderful, but the gyro meat was just too processed. It was chopped, sliced gyro meat. Nothing like you'd get from decent Mediterranean place with a spit of meat. It was nice being able to sit outside in the sun with our pups. I stumbled upon this place as I pulled over while driving down from Fort Mountain. I'm from Atlanta. I had never even been to Ellijay. Initially, I pulled into the lot to check my phone and respond to texts. I looked up and noticed the name of restaurant; Back Porch Bistro. I decided to check online for their menu, as I was already occupying one of their coveted parking spaces (oops). I thought "Well, I COULD go for a sandwich..." I walked in. It was very welcoming and cozy inside. It felt like there were a lot of locals, so I knew I was in for a treat. There were plenty of tables and 2 seater high-tops. Even patio...er...back porch seating! I ordered the Cuban, a side of bbq chips, a small house salad with raspberry vinaigrette, and a bottle of water. I snacked on the chips while I waited for the other items to be made. I overheard that the restaurant slices their own meats in-house. This was going to be good. When the sandwich came out, it wasn't just good, it was great! The bread was crunchy and flaky. The portions of meat were a vision of beauty, and the pickles with the mustard blend tied it all together. Wow! It was a textural and flavorful dream. The salad had a ton of very fresh (and freshly cut) ingredients. Everything was clean and crisp. The raspberry vinaigrette on the salad paired well with the taste of the Cuban. A wonderful quaint lunch spot! Delicious homemade everything! Love their soups and sandwiches! Sides and desserts are always homemade and fresh! Service is great as the folks there along with the owners are super friendly and engaging. This place is a real gem. My only real negative is how rarely they are open. They are open 21 1/2 hours a week. That's it. Closed Wednesdays. Never open before 11:30 and always closed by 3:30 and some days that 3 pm and Sundays they are literally only open 2 1/2 hours. It's just a shame that a place like this is so good that I literally have to off from work (I work from home and only get 30 minutes for lunch) to be able to enjoy or squeeze it in a 2 1/2 hour window on Sundays. read more

My wife and I were across the street in a shop and she asked me to get her some water as she started to feel bad. I quickly walked over to this place, which we had talked about going to anyway, to buy a water and maybe something extra. I walked in and said "hey guys" to two men behind the counter. The shorter and older of the two immediately said "the closed sign does actually mean we're closed" in a rude and condescending manner. I just waved and walked out. I still didn't see a closed sign outside but saw that I had not noticed the Open sign wasn't lit up. I made a simple mistake walking in that unlocked door which made me think they were open. This is one of those restaurants that you know you will never go back to. I ordered a Cuban and a water. The sandwich was very small with very little meat. I ordered a water and was shocked to see Walmart water sold in a restaurant. Even more shocked to be charged 1.50. I highly suggest you find another sandwich shop in Ellijay. What a great little bistro! We are visiting from South Florida and staying in Blue Ridge. We have our 6 year old black lab with us and needed a place where we could sit outside so we could take her with us. I am also a vegetarian. We found this amazing Bistro thru Google and absolutely loved it. We sat out back on their porch and had to go inside to order and they brought the food out to us. I had about 5 different options to choose from as a vegetarian. I chose the bean burger which was made by hand and baked in the oven. It was absolutely delicious!! My husband had the "grinder" which included about 4 different kinds of meats. He loved it. They also had the best homemade iced tea! The service was amazing and very friendly. We visited Back porch bistro because they were one of the ONLY restaurants open on Sunday in downtown Ellijay. The restaurant is on the backside of an antique store but has its own entrance and parking lot. Menu is mostly sandwiches, paninis, salads and soups, but they also have a small Greek menu. We ordered a custom turkey sandwich w/soup and a Greek Gyro. I was thrilled with my sammy- fresh, delicious and inexpensive. My soup came out wrong (I ordered a different one) but we decided to just eat it and it was not very good. The soup had a syrup consistency and looked and tasted like it came from a can...definitely didn't like that one. My husband LOVED his gyro. Definitely a decent little lunch stop!! One complaint: the owner was a little hard on his cashier in front of customers. She appeared to be a new hire and in the process of training and he was a too stern and it was made us (and other customers) a little uncomfortable. I would recommend he watch his tone and dialogue with employees, especially in front of customers. read more

We decided to give this place a try. The menu looked good. When we walked in we knew we were at the right place. It is a great little sandwich shop with lots of amazing extras. The inside is decorated with local art and has that small town charm feel. We met the owner who was very nice and went out of his way to enjoy all his customers were happy and enjoying their freshly prepared meals. If you are hungry when you walk by, don't pass them up.
