I'm in the camp of those with the dismissive office visit that got started late. I'm not a good candidate for surgery and was offered a referral to other docs at her practice who might find me a better fit. But there was no emotion or warmth. I've heard that's a surgeon thing. Ok. She didn't offer me anything useful other than "get a cane". It was a waste of my time and a bit humiliating in general. I felt like she was considering what I might do for HER and the risk wasn't worth it so she had nothing to invest of time, assistance or warmth. I had to prod her to get anything useful or helpful including the other doctor's numbers. But is this just a surgeon thing? If you can't operate on me then you don't have any use for me or anything further to discuss? Maybe it's a surgeon thing. But I left feeling really bad. read more

Wow where to begin? Dr. Wong is an amazing physician and truly made my mom feel cared about. Dr. Wong will not sugar coat anything and at the end of the day thats what I appreciate. Someone that will tell it like it is to your face. She has done multiple of my family members total knees and every single one of them is doing great. My review is for a diagnostic office visit - not surgery. She might be a good surgeon, but she is horrible for diagnosing and offering you an appropriate treatment. I am being generous when I say she spent all of 5 minutes with me. She had no idea why I had recurring knee pain and her solution was more surgery - a full knee replacement to replace the partial knee replacement I had. When I asked how successful that would be to rid me of the pain she said 60-70% chance based on she had no idea why I had pain. She did not suggest I get further tests. I have since seen a wonderful orthopedist who based on an MRI ordered, (not by Dr. Wong) has diagnosed severe tendinosis - something a full knee replacement would not fix. If I had listened to Dr. Wong I would have had more surgery to no avail. read more

I had a complete knee replacement surgery with Dr Wendy Wong one year ago in June 2024. The surgery went smoothly, and my right knee recovers well. Actually a friend of mine recommended Dr Wong to me, stating that she will go back to Dr Wong if she ever needs knee replacement surgery for the other knee. Sure enough, this friend had the second surgery from Dr Wong two months ago, and I saw her at the gym three and half weeks after the surgery! This is the best testimony. read more

2 weeks out: I am a overweight 64 year old woman. So far everything is going great. Pain is minimal; I am capable of getting around on my own or through the use of a cane as needed. I was able to shower shortly after and have already done light house cleaning. I opted to utilize Dr. Wongs expertise via surgical planning through Kinomatic. I wanted the best and fastest outcome/recovery as possible. I have one small incision and a few bruises throughout my leg. It can't get much better then that. Dr. Wong did a FANTASTIC job and I am so grateful. The pain before surgery was by far much worse. (I should have done this sooner.) I highly recommend utilizing this particular procedure if you want a smooth and quick recovery. Lastly; questions I always had, does the hip pain prior to surgery just go away with the hip replacement.....YES!! Pain is all gone. And, does your leg feel strong again....YES!! It's crazy! Update: 11/10/2025 OK so I'm back. I had a second hip replacement and honestly folks, I gotta say it was better than the first one which says a lot since the first one went so well. I was able to move my leg up and down by day 4! I no longer have any pain. This is a big deal!! I've been in pain for the past 4 years; I was at the point where I was just miserable. But now, Im walking my dogs, shopping and just genuinely happy. I really can't explain it when I had my first hip replacement, while the pain was gone in my one leg, I still had pain in my other leg which just didn't balance out. I still didn't feel satisfied but now I feel like I used to feel I can do everything I used to do. I'm so grateful for Dr. Wong and Kinomatic. So months back, I came to this establishment on a highly recommended referral. I have never felt so uncomfortable, uncared for and judged by a doctor in my life. I was only trying to get my life back with a new knee. I left that day after the consultation in tears... the only thing I can say is I give her five stars for pushing me in the direction of her Co~Drs at GSO... that I found the most amazing Surgeon Ever! Dr Wong is the most unpleasant Doctor I have ever met. As a surgeon, she is good at what she does but her bedside manner is horrific. She is an orthopedic surgeon and I went to her under the recommendation of an Orthopedic Dr. that is no longer doing surgery. I absolutely trust his judgements so I followed through with getting a knee replacement with Dr. Wong. My first and only appointment with her, she asked me why I was getting surgery if I could still walk, I was stunned, desperate, having been dealing with my knee for a couple of years due to other other medical problems and at the end of my rope. I just wanted to get on with it knowing that it is a difficult recovery with good results. The morning of my surgery Dr. Wong was joking with the nurses by the end of my bed. Never said hello, never asked me if I had any questions, absolutely no interaction. After surgery let out in about 5 hours, thought there would be home therapy, not.... told not necessary. I did have Therapy 2 weeks later or there abouts and it has been incredibly helpful. I've gone back and forth about writing this but it needs to be said. It's pretty frightening going into surgery with a surgeon that is that cold with her patients. Dr. Wong did a partial right knee replacement, and it went well. I never had any pain and could walk more than a mile after one week. I never took any pain killer stronger than Tylenol and I don't really think I needed to even take that. Rude. Horrible bed side manner. All around disappointment We planned to take my mother to an acute rehab center after her hip surgery . This center is new with great ratings, came highly recommended . She barked at my mother and I , if we took my mother to the acute rehab center after her hip surgery she's going to wash her hands of my mother. She told me that my father and I should be taking care of my mother. My father is 88. My mom and dad are both congestive heart failure patients. The house is not safe for her to rehab there. My mother needed more care than could be given at home.. We are not skilled home care workers. I pre-made all these arrangements. And when we went in for our final appointment prior to surgery, I mentioned we were going to go to the rehab center after surgery (which by the way, her cardiologist said to go to, )she was very abrupt , rude and direct . She first asked sharply who told us to go there.. I told her that my mom's cardiologist just told us to go there. She responded, he didn't know that patients that have hip surgery shouldn't go to rehab centers and if we went to this rehab center she would wash her hands of any responsibility of my mother after her surgery. I could understand if she gave us her opinion or advice , but it was the way she gave it. Dr. Wong is very knowledgeable. They took digital x-rays at the office and she was able to diagnose my hip issue right away. I wish she had shown me the x-rays while I was there. With so many questions and concerns we have when we are at the office, I realized after the visit that I should have taken a look at the x-rays. I am almost 4 weeks post full hip replacement and want to give a huge shout out to Wendy Wong and team along with the Sequoia Surgical Pavilion for the great care and overall experience. As a former executive I really appreciate how they have thought out and refined the entire process, from initial consultation, pre-op, the actual surgery, to the post-op. I had been seeing Dr. Wong for a knee problem. I went for a follow up and even though healed I still have ongoing problems. I attempted to request FMLA certification for 2-3 days per month but before I could get a complete sentence out of my mouth she dismissed me and shut me down. She stated surgery patients only get FMLA and specifically said just deal with the pain or take pain meds. So disappointed with my experience. read more

After thinking about it for 6 months, I need to write a review of this doctor before I even try to see another. I'm still so upset about the way I was treated by Dr. Wong that I want to warn others about her before I can move on. She spent less that 5 minutes with me saying only 3 sentences but spoke to me with such contempt, distain and rudeness I was shocked. Reading other reviews I can see that she actually seems to revel in being as cruel and dismissive as possible of people who are "fat". DO NOT see this doctor if your BMI is over 30 - it is NOT worth it. My BMI of 40 was no secret - her med tech and even the receptionist could have told me I was "NOT a candidate for hip replacement" and saved me from Dr. Wong's presence. But staff actively cover for her; chart notes sent to my doctor say that Dr. Wong did a complete assessment and discussed risks, benefits and next steps. NONE of this was done & notes were done by staff and only signed by Wong. Multiple MRI's had been done which showed a lesion in my left hip and 2 internists said I needed to see an orthopedist for a biopsy. Another doctor at Golden State referred me to Wong after x-rays were done saying I needed a hip replacement. These are the 3 sentences she said to me in the less than 5 minutes she was in the room with me: "I looked at your MRI and it is highly unlikely that there is any malignancy in the growth in your left hip because that rarely happens." "You are not a candidate for hip replacement because of your weight." "I don't have to talk to you." I think that the way Dr. Wong's unprofessional behavior was covered up by staff might indicate how Golden State Orthopedics would cover up any surgical or medical mistakes. Inconsiderate! Rude! No compassion! A week prior to a hip consultaion I filled out the required paperwor. At my appointment I had xrays, walked without assistance and a painful exam. Dr Wong said my BMI was too high and would not do the surgery. Why the xray? Why the painful exam? Why have me even come in at all? All she had to do was look at my paperwork, that they had for a week, and call to cancel my appointment. Easy payday? I dont understand. American Medical Association lost a lawsuit for denying surgery on the basis of weight alone. It was found to be discriminating and illegal. Yet she turned me down. I would like to share my life changing experience with Dr. Wong and Dr.Anatasia. My Wife had both hips replaced 3 yrs ago by Dr. Wong. The surgery immediately restored her quality of life and she became active and most importantly Pain free. The newer Golden State Surgery Center in Walnut Creek is nothing less than first class with all the most current equipment and comfortable overnite recovery rooms. The Nurses were very attentive and caring. 3 weeks ago Sept.29, 2022 I had a full knee replacement and an extensive leg procedure in the lower leg. Im currently attending PT 2x weekly and am doing very well as Im off the walker and have the meds turned way down or off. My leg was a mess, the surgery staff did a wonderful job with getting me walking better than I have in 25 yrs. Im working hard to maximize my recovery and cant thank Dr.Wong enough for restoring my walking, posture and freeing me of the hip and back pain. I don't know if I caught Dr. Wong on a particularly bad day, but I have to say that my only appointment with her was the single worst medical experience I have had in my entire life. (68 years old) I was referred to her for immediate hip replacement, and the orthopedist who had sent me to her informed me that I was not a candidate for a cortizone shot because I was "bone on bone" and needed IMMEDIATE surgery. When I arrrived at the office, her staff started to weigh me WITH MY SHOES ON, and even were annoyed when I stopped them in order to PUT DOWN MY PURSE! When the doctor hurried in, she was rude, dismissive, and never looked me in the eye. She then said she wouldn't do the surgery because (raising her voice) "I WAS FAT!" (I am a size 18, and had my first hip replacement 3 1/2 years previously at the same weight. Overweight my entire life.) She said I had to lose 30 pounds in 3 months, "which was easy". I asked how I could possibly do that when I couldn't walk! She literally "huffed" at me, and said, she "guessed" she'd HAVE to give me the shot. I was moved into the ultrasound room, got on the table WITH NO ASSISTANCE FROM THE STAFF even in my condition. Then Dr. Wong rushed in, she grabbed the hypodermic, and, when I say STABBED ME three times in the hip area, I am not kidding. I screamed, literally screamed each time- she didn't stop, ask if I was ok, nothing. Then she left, the staff said go to the front and get a PT referral, and left me there, stuck on the table. Took me awhile to be able to get up and I wandered until I found the front desk again to get the referrals. I got in my car and had a complete breakdown. Dr. Wendy Wong is the absolute best. Dr. Wong replaced my hip in October 2022. It is better than ever.

In March 2018 I used my left leg to brace myself when keeping a moving shopping cart from hitting a car that backed out of a parking spot without looking as I was walking to my car. I felt a "pop" in my left hip and thought that I might have suffered a slight dislocation. A trip to the chiropractor helped a bit, but the muscle pain in the thigh and groin began to increase, so I was eventually sent for an x-ray, which showed some moderate arthritis had developed. A few months later, after nearly intolerable pain, an MRI revealed that it had developed to full bone-on-bone arthritis and it was suggested that I consult with an orthopaedic surgeon. Of course, that meant going to the insurance company website and seeing which were local and in my plan, and in my search I saw a profile for Dr. Wendy W. Wong. Being a "triple initial" person myself (SSS), I did a bit more research and found her to be very highly recommended, not only by patients but by other health professionals. I set an appointment for October 30 and the fun began. We started with a very candid condition conversation (ccc) and I learned of the options, one of which was not covered by insurance (stem cell injection) and two which were: surgery or cortisone injections. Not wanting to go through surgery, I opted for the cortisone injection, and it provided some relief for a few months. It lasted until about February 2019, and I had another in early-April to carry me through a family wedding in May, and then surgery became my only option for pain relief when it wore of. In July at the surgical consultation, I was instructed to lose 30 pounds prior to surgery so that infection risk was lessened, and surgery was set for October 8th. While I got close to losing only 20 pounds, it still was a big help. The procedure recommended was a total hip replacement by was of Direct Anterior Approach, as the surgical incision was minimal, the procedure was less stressful on the body, and the recovery time was much less. I was amazed! That same day I was up and walking with a walker, home the next day still using the walker, and on the third day after surgery I was walking with just a cane for half the day and then completely on my own. Within a week I was back to full strides and still very little pain, thanks to good medication management and with limited use of opiates to avoid addiction risk. I highly recommend Dr. Wendy Wong, her team, and the Direct Anterior Approach to anyone who is in need of total hip replacement surgery. read more

I had my much needed (it was bone on bone) hip surgery on 2/19/21. I only needed the walker for TWO days and was walking normally after only one week. No pain killers were ever needed at home although I had two narcotics available to me. Not even Tylenol! It is now three weeks out and I am only carrying a cane because I was told to do it for a while. I feel fantastic and can't thank Dr. Wong enough for her skill and expertise. read more

If I could give zero stars I would! I have never been treated so poorly by a physician. Where to start ...I'll start with the comment that is still ringing in my head....... when Dr. Wendy Wong said "this is how I make my money". Well excuse me! It was dismissive and quite rude. It was as if to say, I'm the expert here. And she is and she might be right, but I am floored by such a comment. I know how you make your money Dr. Wong. I also know how much I pay for healthcare and I also know I am struggling just to get to work because of my pain. I have hip pain and was referred by my PM doctor after my MRI results. Dr. Wong determined I am in the "grey area" and not a candidate for surgery. She didn't ask me many questions and when she did she gave me hurry up with a hand gesture. ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!?! So you are telling me I am not a candidate for surgery (not that I want surgery ... let me say that), but you are then telling me I have to live with the pain. That is a lot to take in for a person. Have some compassion. She kept referring to my condition as "unpredictable" and offered no suggestions regarding care. My other hip hurts, knee hurts . . . we didn't get to that. And no solutions were offered . . . Oh . . . she did tell me I could find another orthopedic surgeon who would give me a hip replacement. It was as if THAT was all I was seeking. NO! I don't want surgery, but I don't want to be in pain. Oh....I could also get an injection but typically her patients tell her it works for a while, but then the pain is worse than before. That sounds great. She was abrupt, rude and arrogant. Needless to say I will never go back to Muir Ortho. It's a shame because I love Dr. Lee, but after this I just can't see returning there for anything or anyone. I'm in terrible pain...this is my pain and it's not fun. I pray it was different but it's not. I would think a doctor might have some compassion. So to wrap this up: -Wendy Wong was smug, abrasive, abrupt and rude -she told me "I make my money doing this" - as if to say - if I wanted to take you on I could and I'm the expert -she waved her hand at me as to say "hurry up" when I was answering her questions and practically gave an eye roll -she told me I could find another Dr. who would do surgery on me (as if I was just seeking that out because surgery sounds like a great time) -offered an injection that typically hurts more after -never went into my medical history -never even asked how this happened Since I now know how Dr. Wong makes her money . . . BEWARE!!! If you are in pain and looking for compassion or empathy for what you are going through, this is not the place for you. I can't say it was just Dr. Wong. After injuring my knee and having 40 cc's of blood drawn out from their urgent care unit (the only way to see anyone if you are in pain), it took me 3 weeks to even get an appointment to see her and 2 weeks to get an MRI. You would think that with that much blood they would be concerned. I tried calling the office and leaving messages for her because my pain level was at a 10. But no response from anyone. Nobody seemed to care! My husband took me to the emergency room to get some relief. After that, I again tried calling multiple times with an hour wait to speak with someone on most calls. All I needed was to talk with someone about the pain and to give me some advice on how to handle this. I ended up going to my GP who was very sympathetic of my situation and concerned because my blood pressure which was off the charts because of the pain. After waiting for 3 weeks and an hour in the treatment room. I finally did see Dr. Wong, it was like she had no idea what was going on. She wanted to know if the cortisone shot she gave me months before was effective. I felt like she hadn't looked at my chart and had no idea why I was there!!! I will admit that I lost it. The frustration of going through this experience was too much for me. I thought that Doctors entered this profession to care and mend those who are in need? I really think this office has lost sight of why they are in medicine. Shouldn't the patient be their primary concern? The office staff seems to be more concerned about scheduling and keeping the patients from talking to the doctors. I understand that they are busy with lots of patients but maybe they should have a patient advocate who can deal with people like me. I'd heard so many great things about Dr. Wong from my gym class participants. When it came time for my husband to have hip replacement surgery I was so happy he was assigned Dr. Wong. She did a FANTASTIC job. Surgery was on May 1, 2020. He was immediately relieved of the hip pain, and only had to deal with normal recovery discomfort. Dr. Wong spoke with me before, and immediately after surgery. She made me feel part of the team, and I so appreciated that. Her team checked in with me post-surgery, and after he came home. They kept him safe during this crazy COVID-19 epidemic. I hope he never has to have another operation. But, if he does, Dr. Wong will be on speed-dial! read more

I took my dad to see Dr. Wong for his hip and hand issues. We waited at the waiting room and waiting inside exam room totally of about an hour. She spent less than 10 mins with us and also told me that she will only see one issue at a time so I needed to schedule another appt to see the second issue. The second appt, I make sure we will be the first patient after lunch. The appt was at 1 pm but we waited 30 mins and still no sign Dr. Wong. I went out and asked someone to find her. She was actually in her office who know what she was doing. Same as last visit, she spent less than 10 mins with us...totally just in and out. I find the rushing in and out, not showing any respect and caring of her patients are very unprofessional. She purposely make patient wait a long time. I am not a doctor but my time is just as valuable as her. My whole family go to Muir Orthopaedic group and have met many of the doctors. She is the worst out of the whole group so far. read more

My husband had an appointment with Dr. Wong and I decided to join, since his hand injury was extensive. Dr. Wong is pretty much the worst doctor I have ever seen. (We were referred to her by John Muir's urgent care). I work at a hospital in SF, so I understand how busy physicians can get. However, she was incredibly rude (rolled her eyes at us a few times) and curt. She rushed in and out and didn't take the time to engage in conversation with my husband and I. I wish I had followed my gut, which told me to find a second opinion. Unfortunately, I did not listen to my voice of reason. After six months, we fear that her original prognosis in January (putting my husband in a cast) was actually the wrong one. My husband continued to experience deep pain, so we decided to go to a highly recommended hand surgeon and he immediately scheduled surgery to fix my husband's hand. The hand surgeon ordered X-rays, which showed that his bones were unaligned. That was the reason for his chronic pain. No thanks to Dr. Wong, my husband's life was affected for six months as he was experiencing terrible pain. His hand did not reach full functionality and his grip was weak. I hope we will obtain CG-CAHPS surveys in the mail so I may rate accordingly. In short, I wish I could give her negative stars. read more

This is a late review post. I took my dad to see her for his hand issue. We waited 15 mins in the room before she came in and spent less than 10 mins with us. She insisted my dad get a cortisone shot for the pain. We agreed, but she won't do it on the same visit. She made us come back next week to get the shot. I don't see why she can't do it the same day, but we go ahead and schedule the next appt anyway. On the second visit, we waited 30 mins in the room for her to give the shot which spent less than 3 mins. On the third follow-up visit, we waited over an hour before she came into the room. I purposely scheduled as the first patient of the day. Dr. Wong was in her office the whole time. I asked the medical assistant many times why she hadn't come to see my dad. The medical assistant can't even answer that. She finally came into the room and had no clue why we were there. Really, she can't even review the medical chart before walking into the room. If she is going to make the patient wait an hour for her, the least she can do is read the chart and pretend to know her patient. read more

Me and my husband went today morning at dr Wendy's clinic in San Ramon . We both have problem with our knees. It was a waste of time and money. She wasn't interested in our case. I normally walk 3-4 miles a day but while gardening I hurt my knee so severely I was unable to walk more than a few steps. MRI revealed a tear and a loose chunk of bone that led to 10 out of 10 pain when stepping on it. I was so optimistic about seeing Dr. Wong after watching her "caring" video that I unfortunately ignored the bad Yelp reviews. After keeping me waiting half a hour ( how can you be so behind for an 8:15 AM appointment?) she blew in and told me the only thing she could do for me was a steroid shot. I said I read the MRI (I have been in healthcare for 40 years) and it seemed that there was so much damage, how could a steroid shot help? She then proceeded to tell me arthroscopic surgery wouldn't do any good and I was not a candidate for a knee replacement. She told 3 times in the next 5 minutes that I should go get a second opinion. My eyes welled with tears as I reiterated that I couldn't walk much less go to work and she shrugged her shoulders and gave me a "sucks to be you" smirk and said " do you want the shot or not?" with her hand on the doorknob. When I got back home to bed I chatted with my neighbor recounting the story and she said, "Dr. Wong? I went to her once for my bad knee, she's horrible! Such a patronizing snot!" I was going to say that if I could give her zero stars I would but actually she did give me great advice to get a second opinion and get away from her and Muir Orthopedics so she deserves a star for that. I was hurried into the office of a competing and experienced female ortho surgeon who took one look at my MRI and said, "that looks so painful, I need to go in and clean up your injury!".They put me on the fast track to surgery and I am so happy to report it was a great success, I can walk again! Perhaps if I had a malady that would generate more income for Wong she might have been more caring. I'll never know because I am never settling foot near that woman or Muir Orthopedics again and I recommend you do the same. read more

Wendy gave me my life back! For almost a year I suffered from debilitating hip/leg pain caused by arthritis. It affected everything; walking, working, sleeping and my zest for life. I am just 52 years old, but felt 80. I tried chiropractor, physical therapy, cortisone shot & a gel, but nothing worked.
