Exactly what we were looking for - a cozy revamped motor inn - 50s style. The original family still operates this motel. We parked right in front of our room. The room was spotless and recently renovated. Kelly and her sister are A+ hosts -funny and welcoming. A very reasonablypriced stay, free coffee/ice and a great location. Adorable motel. read more

What a wonderful place! My partner and I are on a roadtrip moving from California to Minnesota and we have been camping along the way. We were planning to spend the night at the Badlands NP but after a full day of driving in 100 degree heat with no AC and arriving to Wall with the same weather we didn't think we could take it. Kelly and Kari are so sweet, super understanding that we have two vehicles since we are moving everything we own, and welcomed our pup with open arms (and treats). The rooms were clean and very nice along with all the accommodations. We are so appreciative of this place and hope to come back! Thank you Welsh family! read more

We have been traveling for over a week and this is one of the best motels we have stayed in. We stayed in many big name hotel/motels and this was cleaner and much more comfortable. The only downside might be no shampoo but we always carry our own. I would highly recommend this motel. Basic but very nice. Breakfast be had at Wall Drug for a nice price. read more

Rooms was clean. No shampoo? No USB other than the tv and usb port didn't work. One available electrical outlet in room. Definitely needs some updates to satisfy current traveler's needs. Definitely not handicapped accessible and no safety bars in shower. read more

I've stayed there 3 years in a row on my way to the Black Hills for vacation with my daughter, and I just booked a room for this year. The first year we stayed there, it was pure luck. We had no reservations anywhere, and this is the first place to stay when you get off of I-90. The place looked really clean and we love old fashion park-in-front-of-the-room motels, and my daughter thought it looked really cute. The owner treats everyone like family and I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Wall from now on. read more

Finally a super special hotel - the first in 5 days on our trip from Florida to Washington state. Two really bad ones (forgot to read reviews). Two chains that were just ragged and dirty around the edges. So happy July 1, 2021 to be at this hotel. It is the only place to stay in Wall. Welsh's is run by the third generation and they are solidly committed to super clean, super friendly. the room was quaint and much better designed than the two major chains. The bathroom was large, and felt just like you were at home. The whole room felt like you were in a master bedroom suite at a nice, though older home. And again, it was clean - cleaned by the owners themselves. It is near the Badlands, the good Red Rock restaurant and only a few more blocks to famous Wall Drugstore (nice history but not such a big deal). Be sure to stop into the National Grasslands Visitor Center 708 Main Street PO Box 425 Wall, SD 57790 before driving the loop. read more

Very clean, very friendly, close to Wall Drug Store. The room had all accommodations, a/c, very clean restroom, non-smoking, the entire room was spotless. Comfortable bedding, Wi-Fi, just a very nice place. I'm a single older lady and feel very safe here. Parking slot was directly in front of my door. read more

I stay at Welsh's every time I drive across the country and pass through Wall, SD. Kelly and her family are really kind, straight-dealing, and friendly people who run a great family-owned motel and are serious about upkeep and cleanliness. We called ahead from the road and made a reservation, then paid when we arrived ($65, including tax) on July 3rd, 2012. Our room had two incredibly comfortable double beds and was non-smoking... although it seemed like a couple people may have broken that rule over the years. (Stinkers!) What I LOVE about Welsh's is that you can back your car up RIGHT TO YOUR HOTEL ROOM DOOR and unload your car in a couple of quick, easy steps. No fuss. No hiking through a lobby or swiping a key card that blinks red every time. Nope - just a nice key and about two steps from car to door. Ahhh. Makes a huge difference when you've just gone 14 hours in the car. So, it's not the fanciest hotel in the world, but it's a great American motel and it always makes me feel good to support a local family who is working hard to run a small business... and doing a great job at it. And I always get an excellent sleep at Welsh's. ALWAYS! (And I've stayed here five times over 12 years.) Thanks again, Kelly & Co, for the great service! read more

Me and my two dogs, had been driving all day from northern Utah. We dislike corporations and chains, much prefer small independent businesses that reflect the town. After being rejected by motels that were either full or didn't allow dogs - we drove by Welsh's and thought it was adorable, so we popped in. We were greeted by two friendly dogs in the office, and shortly thereafter their human (who we assume to be the owner or manager) came out. She was very friendly, helped us rent our room, and we were on our way! No timely paperwork, pet fees, etc. The room itself was very clean and cute. Super 70's vibe, which we loved. So, it's not fancy - but if you're a road-tripper and you like personality - definitely give this place a go! read more

My 2 girls broke down about a mile out of Wall late at night. My wife was familiar with this place so we had their car towed there. Over the next 3 days I had to figure out how to bet my car picked up. Every call went to voicemail. They never returned them. Wrecker showed up (day 3) to haul the car away and the car was gone. Again, a long series of calls to their voicemail. None were returned. I contacted the sheriff to see if he could help. Shortly after that (day5) the hotel called me back to let me know who had my car. Probably a nice place to stay, but not very helpful during a stressful time. They also wouldn't give my girls (who were stuck in Wall for 9hrs) a late checkout. We'll just flip 'emu the bird as we drive past next time. read more

We called ahead from rapid city at 8:30 pm to several motels all of which were $58-$80 for 1 bed, 2 adults. Kelly answered when we called Welsh's, so friendly and cheerful on the phone, and it only cost $55 after taxes! Kelly greeted us at the door with a big smile and an "O'gosh Yes!" This place is old but very clean and quiet. We felt very safe leaving our truck full of our belongings in the parking lot. We learned that Kelly's grandparents started the hotel in 1958 and its been passed down to her and her sister who now run the business. We'd definitely return on another trip across America! read more

What a step back in time! If you are looking for state of the art this is not the place for you. But you will not find a cleaner, more friendlier staff. You actually get a real "KEY" to open your room door. (But it does have WiFi) The rooms are dated somewhere near the 70's but extremely clean down to a spot free tub and bathroom floor you could eat off of! For 48 bucks its a great place overflowing with character! read more

I always stay at Welsh's Motel whenever I am in the area. I pulled into their parking lot for the 1st time a few years ago after seeing their pet friendly advertisement. Anyone who travel w/animals knows not all places accept pets or they run out of pet friendly rooms, so seeing this and hoping for the best, I stopped in to inquire. The rest is history. The owners are onsite 24/7 and ready for a guest check in with a smile on their faces, even at midnight. The rooms are comfy, CLEAN, and have everything you need. No matter what time of the year I go, the rates are reasonable and most importantly, it takes the stress out of travelling, knowing my dogs & I have a great place to stay for the night. The pride in their business shows and I look forward to my next stay with them! read more

On a trip from Texas, my mom and I planned on camping but we stopped for gas across the street from Welsh's Motel. The place caught my eye immediately. The building and grounds are so clean and tidy. The paint colors are beautiful and whimsical. The green field of freshly cut grass to the right was perfect for my two 80 pound dogs. So, I decided to stop and inquire about vacancy and pricing, it just got better from there! Price was great, dogs stay free, small independent business owner, and customer service was more than outstanding! It was 9 am, I told her we had been driving for 18 hours and I asked how soon we could have a room available (expecting her to say around 1 or 2 at the earliest), she said give me about 15-30 minutes and I'll have my girls get you a clean room at no extra charge and we were in our room by 9:30 am. Exhausted and thankful for everything these sweet people did for me, my mom, and my dogs. I did not get her name but will before we leave. Where do I even begin? I could start with the fact that the hotel is clean, comfortable, convenient and a great value. I could also mention that the owner is an adorable gentleman who likes to give some good-natured teasing to those travelers who can handle it (that would be me, apparently!) But my biggest shout-out goes to Kelly, the daughter-owner who made our tough travel situation a whole lot easier. Mom's in a wheelchair and I'm pretty used to packing everything up, etc. but when you fall down and sprain your ankle in the Badlands and are now on crutches, everything's just a wee bit harder. Kelly found us struggling and immediately set to work, packing the car, filling the coolers with ice, even wrangling the wheelchair on to its rack on the back! She forced me to sit back, rest my ankle, and even made me an ice pack. She was amazing, and just proved once again why we love supporting family businesses. I generally camp, but if I ever need a hotel in South Dakota again, you can bet I'll be staying at Welsh's Motel! read more

It's a older motel but has been remodeled. It was tastefully decorated and super clean. We paid 77.00 for the night. Room is a little small but nice to support a local owned business! Hard for them to compete against the big name hotels! You won't be disappointed or we weren't!! read more

Great place! Clean and cheap with friendly service. It had the best rating of the hotels around and I'm glad I choose here. The bed was super comfortable with clean white sheets. Really wonderful experience. Family-owned motel with great standards. The bath looked recently updated and the service was friendly. Bed comfy and great wi-fi signal (struggled to get one at other places). The gentleman at check-in thanked us for our business, and it really made me think about how much these little places must be suffering from the big chains going up everywhere. We like to stay in places like this on roadtrips because it's more of an experience, and this was one of the nicer ones. read more

We were traveling 3000 miles with the Badlands as a stop, we stayed an unplanned 2 nights at the Welch's Motel because it was so welcoming. If you plan on going to the Badlands / Mt Rushmore stay at the Welsh's Motel you will not be sorry.
