Friend to greet you by the door

Definitely one of the nicer and more trust-worthy Super 8s! I've stayed here twice when visiting Badlands National Park and I'll stay again! The place is clean and well-kept, and unlike too many of the other Super 8s I've stayed at, it doesn't reek of smoke or have a sketchy clientele. It doesn't have a loud and creepy right-on-the-Interstate location either, it's really more of a peaceful downtown green space. Or as quiet as it can get in a touristy town anyway! Charming decor, a breakfast nook that's cozy without being cramped, a few sitting areas. Staff is friendly, helpful and hard-working. Cons: One of the sitting areas is located next to the front desk which is awkward, even if I do like the staff. Also, it's just cold breakfast items but there's often a lot of choices and they don't taste like they've been sitting there for 10 years or look like they've been smushed between the couch cushions. Many (if not the majority?) of Super 8s could learn a thing or two from this place. I don't expect a Super 8 to mimic my favorite condo or resort but I do expect it to be clean and safe and as advertised. Anything less should be illegal. My favorite Super 8!

Live bug found in our bed upon checkout 6/14/17!

They wouldn't take my trash so I had to take it outside to a dumpster in the back of the hotel.

This motel is located a few blocks from downtown and Wall Drug, an easy walk although probably not on a hot day.

The office is cute coffee shop boutique vibe, they make fresh coffee in there every morning so you don't have to make it in your room. They also have a small popcorn machine that always has popcorn ready for guest. They do close the office early though. Check in & out was super easy. Rooms are very spacious, contain microwave, mini fridge, coffee/teas. Toilet & tub in separate room from vanity which is always much nicer for getting ready. Ample parking by your unit. It's a 2-story building so not many units. There is an outdoor seating area with heaters near the back by the Chuck Wagons that you can rent as rooms. It's literally at the end of the street from Wall Drug & the shopping/restaurants so we walked every night.

We were planning a family road trip to Yellowstone this summer and decided to make a stop in Wall on the way up so we could explore the badlands for a day. After doing some research on the town of Wall I learned a few things about places to stay: 1. all of the available lodging are motels, and 2. nearly all of them look as if they've seen better days. After reading through reviews and flipping through images online I found my way to Yelp and discovered the Hansen Inn. The photos honestly looked almost too good to be true, but the reviews backed them up, and I loved that we would be supporting a local business while in town, so with the price being about the same as the Best Western, I went ahead and booked us a room. When we arrived it was easy to check in, and I really liked that they have door codes for each individual door that is customized to your stay. It's conveniently located across the street from Wall Drug, which is the biggest attraction in town, and if you're staying here you really should explore it as it's a pretty unique spot. Once inside your room, you'll find a comfortable and clean space with an air conditioner, modern bathroom, TV, microwave, and fridge. There is an ice machine within the building, and we loved that they also provided some complimentary water bottles. The bed was decent - it was honestly the lowlight of the stay, but it was comfortable enough, and overall if I was staying in Wall I'd without a doubt book this place again. For me, I think it's a bit more of a 4.5/5 rather than a full five just because of the bed, but given that it's in a small town with limited options, I do think this is probably the best motel in town, and that gives it the extra .5 star in my book. Some of our family stayed in other places because they had pools and this one doesn't, but to be honest if you drive through Wall you'll see that the outdoor pools at nearby motels are really not much to write home about, and I had no regrets about booking the nicer place for a more comfortable stay.

When I first called she answered by her first name, not as Days Inn. I asked if I had the correct phone number and she said yes. I stated that I was charged for a cancelled reservation. She said "tell you what, call back in a half hour". Not a great start. When I called back she didn't take any information or look up anything before saying that if I was charged it was because of the policy. She said that there are no hotels that let you cancel under 48 hours, which is just untrue as most major chains, including Wyndham, allow for cancellations up the check in, particularly under their military member program. The Days Inn booking failed to disclose that cancellations made under 48 hours cannot be cancelled. The military member policy on the Wyndham app is free cancellation up to 24 hours. Wyndham customer service was a chat that disconnected followed by a series of unhelpful and incompetent call center employees. I will never again stay at a Wyndham property.

It did have wireless internet, but it didn't work very well. The owner said that it was a problem in just our cabin and if we wanted to we could move to another cabin. It tasted a lot better than the stuff I have been getting at other restaurants, The owner was also very kind and helpful. We spent the first night of the scenic route in Wall on our way to an early AM foray into the Badlands. We fell in love with our eighty-two year old hostess. Dad wanted to find mom and pops the rest of the way. We didn't have the same luck night two in Buffalo, WY. I guess it's not everyday you find a family run motel that's been in business over forty years. In the off season, the innkeeper sews, knits and crochets. Her handiwork is for sale in the front office where she lays out breakfast treats wrapped in plastic wrap. I asked her if she made the curtains in the room. She did. She explained they were odd sized windows. The quilts to match are coming. She gave us great suggestions for dinner and warned us of false advertising and other shenanigans in the Black Hills. Our cabin was quiet, clean, affordable and a perfect fit with a queen and a twin at opposite ends. I was able to refreeze my ice blocks and keep my road veggie snacks cool in the refrigerator. The cabins have kitchenettes, so if you bring your own cooking utensils, plates and food, you can save even more. We began our morning with a walk into the badlands along a dirt road just beyond the hotel and watched the sun come up. Overall, it was a great start to home.
