Located in north-central Pennsylvania's Tioga county, Wellsboro is the center of shopping, dining, and entertainment for a rather wide area of the region. With the closest city of any size, Williamsport, being over 50 miles away and a lack of chain stores and restaurants in the community, downtown Wellsboro seems frozen in time. Opened to the public in 2008 as a family-owned/operated restaurant and added their brewery in 2013, this establishment is worth checking out located just outside the downtown area where we came for a celebratory birthday. The Wellsboro House accommodated in a building that dates back to 1862. It was once known as "Hotel Roosevelt"--named after US President Theodore Roosevelt, who used to frequent the area. While the brewery started out inside the building as well, it quickly grew out of the space and now occupies the restored train station across the street. The reservation was easily done via Google Assistant. Upon entering through one of the two doors into a welcoming, casual, and comfortable vibe, my partner, his family, and I were greeted by the staff and got a table immediately as first-timers. Their 20-foot wooden bar is a highlight of the 3 dining rooms. Their menu is extensive with delicious appetizers, sandwiches, and salads for lunch. For starters, some of us ordered the poutine. As the main meal, we opted for Crispy Chicken Salad, Grilled Chicken Salad, Impossible Burger, Eggplant Parmesan Sandwich, Veggie South Philly Sandwich, and Turkducken Burger, aka "The Madden." The food was excellent, well seasoned, and the service was attentive. Our server was Ashley. The price was reasonable and the portions healthy. Great atmosphere and great food - staff is exceptional too. When in Wellsboro, we always stop by to eat

On a trip along Route 6 in northern PA, my wife and I found ourselves in Wellsboro, PA, at dinner time. I looked for local restaurants and at the top of the list was The Wellsboro House. Using directions on the app. we found the restaurant. The menu was almost overwhelming, but having never had a Kielbasa Steak and Cheese I was intrigued ( living in Steel Mill towns in NE Ohio taught me the wonders of Pierogis and Kielbasa), so I ordered it with a house made Lager and my wife had a Mushroom and Cheese Burger. They were wonderful. Kimbria (I hope this spelling is close), out waitress, was wonderful. She really helped us pick out some exciting items on the menu. We told her that at 11:30am we were in Madison, CT, in the shoreline, but were headed back to Cincinnati, but always hunting for good food. read more

We usually stop here for dinner each time we visit Wellsboro, this time we went for lunch. We got the chicken salad and cheesesteak sandwich with fries. Since the owner is from Philly, we were told the cheesesteak was legit, yes, it was!!! The salad was fresh with peppers, onions, tomato's, and the chicken was warm and lean. Our waitress, Ashley, did an excellent job making recommendations on what to eat. We sat at the bar and it was a pleasure to have her taking care of us. She also went out of her way to tell us about cool places to hike. The atmosphere is pretty sweet, cozy with a lot of sports playing on the TV's. read more

Beer selection is awesome. So many IPA's to choose from. The Wynken IPA was my choice x 2. The Buffalo Chix sandwich was uninspired; an old chicken breast with a decent sauce on top. It needs to be reimagined or removed from the menu. Chef needs to have this for dinner. The Philly Rueben was great; hot and on an Amoroso roll. Wouldn't change a thing. Thanks! read more

Stopped here on a camping trip to Grand Canyon, Pennsylvania. Nice place great service great food and plenty of easy parking. Downtown Wellsboro is worth the trip as well, but this was a nice surprise. read more

Lovely old place with nice ambiance and great food. We went on a weekend away and got the jalepeno bites for an appetizer and chicken parm for dinner. Food was amazing hot and had lots of flavor. The service was good but the only con was that if anyone left or came in the door it was extremely drafty and cold for a baby to be sitting there. Stumbled across this restaurant when I stopped to take photos of the depot across the street. It was dinnertime and the restaurant looked busy, so we decided to give it a shot. There was a 10-15 minute wait for indoor seating and it was a nice day, so we decided to eat on their deck. We got some of the local sodas to drink, the fried mozzarella appetizer, and we both had the chicken cordon bleu sandwich. The fried mozzarella was tasty and the chicken cordon bleu sandwiches were huge and also very good. Our server was friendly, but the service itself was slow. We asked for a water refill when we were getting towards the end of the meal. By the time the server came back, it was over 15 minutes later and we just asked for the check instead. Altogether, we were at the restaurant for 1.5 hours which was probably 30 minutes longer than if the service was more attentive. The other knock was there is a 3.99% surcharge for using a card to pay. I didn't recall seeing it posted anywhere. It was unexpected when I got the bill. Trying to stack on a couple extra bucks on top of what was already a fairly decent bill left a bad taste in my mouth. The food was good enough that I might give them another shot if I'm in the area again, but they need to step up their service. read more

After dinner, I was looking for something sweet, I needed my favorite, Peanut Butter pie. And Yelp found it for me, at the Wellsboro House. It was amazing, decedent, filling, hit the spot. I will absolutely be back here one day, for dinner, and of course, more peanut butter pie!! read more

Oh this was a great surprise Wellsboro House was recommended by a friend The Apple Cyser was unexpected. I think what I liked most was the lighter carbonation. The mussels, oh the mussels. My wife was happy, happy, happy. I went toward the lighter side for a change. So few places serve catfish anymore. Tilapia has replaced it. Not for me. This catfish with a creamy creole sauce was so buttery with just the right amount of spice. The service was outstanding and I love the family atmosphere. Frankly I want families around me when I dine. It feels more relaxing as it should. read more

Comfortable bar and restaurant a little out of town. Downtown Wellsboro is very charming, but this place is at the old train station just outside of town, past the McDonald's. It's worth finding! They have a nice list of beers they brew, a good menu, and a clean-well lit vibe. I had a couple of porters and an eggplant Parmesan sub. Both were excellent! This was my first time out for dinner in quite a while. The Wellsboro House didn't disappoint. It was obviously a busy night with lots of folks waiting for tables. There was also a local wine and cider tasting table set up for @innerstoic. I had a pint of the now on tap Innerstoic Goldrush cider that was really on point. Refreshing and great crisp flavor. So we are pretty far from water in Wellsboro but I heard that the fish was worth a look. I ordered the blackened catfish with a crawfish sauce. Damn it was good! It was perfection. Blackened done right is something special. Hats off to this chef for killing it. I also washed down my food with some delicious South of the Border (SOB) Porter which I found to be another amazing creation. Bottom line is, I will be back! read more

Warm buttered rum was really good. I had a house salad-good portion and fresh vegetables. Crab balls in panko are ok. Clam chowder came out just warm-once reheated the flavor was good. I went to Wellsboro House with a large group of 10 friends. We called last minute to come for dinner. Not only did they tell us to come right over, but they had everything set up and ready including menus for our large party in the few minutes it took us to get there. The food was delicious and the service was fantastic. Welcoming and casual, comfortable atmosphere with great options for dinner. On top of all these great things, the staff took incredible care of me personally. On my way there ny headache turned into an absolute throbbing migraine, to the point of being sick to my stomach. Our waitress asked the rest of the staff if anyone had Tylenol, bringing multiple options and brought me coffee to try and help. They all told me they hoped I was feeling better soon and then again when I was leaving. I could not recommend Wellsboro House more! read more

Basing this review on just one visit. Great bartender served me, don't remember her name, sorry. Ordered a Krabby Pattie, which was described as having some sort of fish AND beef in it. Sounded intriguing. I guess I ignored the fact that there was a lot of filler in it (or at least it tasted that way.) Pretty disappointing; it was like a failed meatloaf experiment on a bun. Horrible wine selection, basically geared toward people who don't really like wine much but who like beer even less and want a cheap buzz. Their emphasis seems to be on their beer, and the food I saw others order looked and smelled OK, so if you like steaks and beer I imagine this is a good place to go. I may try them again and stay away from anything that sounds too creative. read more

Unfortunately my first time at the Wellsboro House was less than good. To be specific, my burger and fries while looking beautiful were served cold. It did not appear to be a busy day since there were lots of staff hanging around the bar area, so I'm not sure what was going on and it did definitely take longer that usual to get served. Also, while the menu indicated home brewed unsweetened ice tea was available, I was served Brisk. I can't say I've ever had that happen before. I think I'll give another try and specify that I would like a hot burger and fries but that seems obvious. read more

Wellsboro House is an absolute favorite of ours! We haven't ever had a bad meal. The cheesesteak is really yummy, and the homemade chips make the meal sweetly different from other restaurants we've eaten at. If we have a special get together, we always suggest them. They do have a classic bar as well, and a nice selection of drinks. Service is friendly and quick. And...they have event nights at times too! Cheers! read more

While on vacation, the place we were staying at suggested this restaurant. We went close to closing. We are greeted and seated immediately. The place we clean and welcoming. Our server, Carmela was friendly and very knowledgeable. My husband had the salmon. He loved it. I had the chicken scampi. It was the best chicken scampi I have every had. We met the owner, who spent time chatting with us. My husband loved the beer that was brewed across the street at the restaurant's brewery. We spent a long time talking with Carmela. She really made night. She gave our boys candy watches and stickers. When we paid the bill, she gave us little candies that she buys for her tables. We enjoyed it so much, we returned the next evening. Carmela greeted us immediately. She took our drink order and returned with a birthday gift and a piece of peanut butter pie for my 13 year old because we had mentioned it was his birthday weekend. This place is truly a gem! Great local restaurant, with a Philly flair. We are moving near there soon and this will definitely be one of our "go to restaurants".

We came here for lunch on a rainy day and the food was really nice! We had the French onion soup, I had the shrimp Caesar and my husband the mussels app; everything came out really good (maybe just a little too much dressing on the salad but still very good), and they also have a decent beer selection (I don't care but my husband is a beer nut). The wine selection is limited but I can only assume that it's not really what they sell most. The menu is really extensive, making choices was tough, a lot of things looked really good! read more
