Have always loved coming to this store for my produce. They have better prices AND better quality (one time I went to the Food Basics right beside and every container of strawberries was covered in mold..). However, I am sad to see they have done nothing to protect their customers during COVID and have done nothing to minimize the spread of infection. The only thing they've done is try to protect themselves by putting in plexi glass and wearing the SAME plastic gloves for every single customer they cash out. When it was my turn to cash out I noticed that she did not sanitize her gloves, sanitize her hands, or change her gloves. Her gloves were visibly dirty, and there was no hand sanitizer near her register. I asked her if she was going to change her gloves or even sanitize and she just said "NO". Sad to say, but I may need to avoid this produce store for a while until COVID is better controlled. read more

This innocuous little building in St. James Town is home to quality fruits and vegetables and savings! This area of Toronto is a little bit of a food dessert with the disgustingly dirty Food Basics on one side and the beautiful, but quite pricey Loblaws on the other. Sunny Green Fruit and Vegetable is an oasis in between with quality fruits and vegetables and reasonable prices. You'll find most of your standard fruits and veggies here, including a decent selection of organic products. Some of the products are more similar to a farmers market, like carrots with the green tops still attached (the way to buy them). They have a few Asian products as well, but it's not a substitute for a proper Asian market. What really stuns me though is the price: limes 6/$2.00 (2/$1.00 or more at Loblaws), lemons 3/$1.00 ($1.00 each at Loblaws), etc. I was shocked to walk out here for a recent shopping trip in which I got all the veggies for a soup (standard mirepoix base) as well as some treats like lemons, limes, and blueberries for about $6. The products are generally pretty high quality, although like most smaller stores, it's up to you to do your best squeeze test and feel-up the fruit (that statement could be misinterpreted in the Village). Generous hours...almost 9 AM to 9 PM every day. With this recent find, I'll be shifting a lot of my shopping here. read more

This is my favourite market to go to since my move to the neighbourhood at the start of September. The woman is always so cheerful, helpful, and sweet. The rest of the employees are also always great and they have everything in stock well and at unbeatable prices! Unreal sometimes what they have on sale. I'll keep on returning for their great produce at these great affordable prices. Highly recommend checking out, the best fruit and produce market in the St. James/Cabbagetown area! :) read more

I am a weekly visitor to this little fruit and veg store. Given the price of fresh produce in the city this place is definitely worth a trip. Good quality, variation and very friendly service. Best point about the place is the pricing it could be half the price of some of the other near by stores in some cases. read more

I have NEVER been disappointed by their choices of produce....the fruits and vegetables are delicious and the prices are awesome! You can buy a container of pineapple, watermelon, or cantaloupe for around $2-$2.50 and at other stores it would cost you $6-$8 for the same amount and the quality I have found isn't even as good!!! read more

Every time I walk out of here, I feel like the "Start the car!" lady in that Ikea commercial. This deceptively grubby little shop boasts great produce for next to nothing. Such a positive addition to the neighbourhood. read more

The young girl cashier is very unprofessional. She does not help the customers put their paid merchandise in the bag, when they bring their own bags. The customers who bring their own bags are saving the environment, plus saving the store's plastic bags. The young girl cashier also expects every customer to return the basket, to its proper place, before leaving the store, which is and should be her job!! Very unprofessional! read more

After getting frustrated with the astronomically expensive prices for produce at the No Frills by my place, I decided to venture out to Sunny Green Fruit & Vegetable market, & boy am I glad that I did! Their prices are excellent; very reasonable and closer to what I feel people should actually be paying for their produce. I swear that I've seen No Frills charging $2.50 for one crown of Broccoli and Sunny was charging $1.99 for an entire pound. On top of the great prices, the produce is very fresh and appetizing. The service is good and they don't charge for their bags either. I came home with two bundles of asparagus, 5 tomatoes, 3 apples, one crown of broccoli, & 2 orange peppers, all for the low price of $8.20. I will most definitely be going back there for all of my produce from this point forward! read more

When I was here today I was speaking with who I presume to be one of the owners. He was super friendly and suggested various vegetables for me to try out. He also wanted me to give him feedback on his suggestions the next time I'm back at his store. Located at the intersection of Wellesley Street East and Ontario Street (across from the mall that separates it from the Food Basics supermarket), Sunny Green is the top spot to go for affordable, fresh produce. Store is practically busy most of day as shoppers stop by to buy fresh fruits and vegetables that are placed throughout their store and outside their entrance. With pints of strawberries going for 2 at $3, cherry tomatoes 2 for $4, I wonder how Food Basic's produce section continues to operate? Due to several ramps located inside,the store's interior layout is a bit of a pain especially if you're in a wheelchair or have a shopping carts. Merchant only accepts cash and debit ONLY (No credit cards accepted). While many might be weary of treckking over due to it's close proximity to St. James Town, for shoppers who are looking for quality, affordable produce, look no more. read more

This little store is amazing - they have a big variety of fruits and veggies at very affordable price. I was thrilled to see 2 pints of fresh blackberries for $3 and raspberries for $5, and they were the best berries I have ever tried. Aside from fresh produce, they also carry some Asian grocery including tofu, soy sauce and instant noodles. If you need to get groceries, you might as well check it out. read more

I do most of my grocery shopping here lately. The produce is fresh, delicious. And never goes soft from the inside out or rots/moulds a couple days after purchasing the way grocery store produce sometimes does. The prices are very competitive, at least as good as No Frills and often better. They have regularly had watermelons for under $5 and cherries under $2 a pound this summer, and the staff will help you pick the sweetest melon. One of the best places for produce I've been to in the city. read more
