Hasn't fixed their falling apart theatre in over a decade. Is the least hygienic theater in the entire state.

I only live 3 blocks from this DISGRACE of a so called theater! I felt like a heel, I bought 2 matinee ticks to Wick 3 for my friend who does not have long to live. Now I have lived in this town for 5 years..I assumed this place was like NYC where I was born and raised. MY BADDDDD...Horrible, sticky floors Popcorn and filth in the aisles. NO commercial break for a 3 hour movie. I had to use the bathroom, OH MY what a nightmare and the 2 persons running this place were sitting on the floor. I went in and GROTESQUE.even worse when I went to dry my hands the paper towel dispensary was EMPTY!! So I go to where these 2 are sitting on their Butts and let them know and then some!!! WE suffered through the entire movie.The speakers were like NOTHING I have ever experienced in 5 decades!!!Cost 19$ for this Matinee' Are they kidding me!! Who owns this germ ridden filthy place?! I will now go to NY or Burlington..It's a crying shame, this town has NOTHING going for it...I cannot wait to move out soon soon, lol, lol..So there is my honest truth. If I could rate this a zero I would have. They should pay us to walk through those filthy front doors..OH then the old cold expensive so called popcorn the soda had NO fizz to it. I'm leaving this review for the seriously over the top rude woman who greeted me through the glass of the front door when I inquired as to when the theatre would be opening up for their 2pm "matinee". It was approximately 1:10 pm when she yelled at me that I would "know they are open at 1:30 pm when they put their sign out." Of course, I couldn't have known this with the stark lack of signage informing me as much of their business hours. Their website is equally as uninformative. They ought to consider putting their sign out earlier so the ignorant public who might be visiting St. Albans like myself would know not to knock on the window to inquire as to their hours of operation. Call me crazy that I might want to know such a nutty thing. I am honestly taken aback. I've never been screamed at when trying to patronize a business. I'm not sure i want to go now as I write this review, but I surely want to inform the poor saps who decide to check out this hole in wall theatre (apparently being local means you can treat people like garbage) what to expect in terms of grand unpleasantness you will encounter when trying to pack some dollars into the local economy. I suggest you spend a few more dollars and go to Essex Cinema where you can enjoy what I am quite sure are more comfortable seats, a much bigger and better screen, and way better sound, sans the epic, crass attitude of the "local" mob that seems to run this poor excuse for a "theatre". If it's true local flavor and flair you want, it is worth a 3 hour drive to Brattleboro, Vermont to visit the Latchis Theatre and Hotel. Now that is a class A joint run by pleasant folks who will gladly invite you in when they're closed to show off their newly restored digs. While your there, book a night in one of their themed rooms overlooking the Connecticut River and enjoy a burger at the restaurant and beer garden across the street while lounging lazily on one of ther decks that sits over the river. If you do one thing, avoid this theatre at all costs as I've just now decided to do as I conclude this review at the wonderful coffee shop next door. For the price of the movie ticket, you can enjoy a nice piece of biscotti with a refreshing, and quite good I might add, iced vanilla latte. Cheers! read more

Went to see Dragon Tattoo here 1/21/12. Their website showed the start time as 6:00 PM but when we got there, the woman at the ticket counter said it was 7:00 PM. I mentioned the time discrepancy, but she displayed no reaction to this information. We had an hour to kill and decided to duck into the nearby Mexican restaurant (see separate review) Welden is a small triplex, meaning it is three theatres. Tickets are very reasonably priced for adults at $7 each, $5 for matinee. Popcorn is made fresh before each show and they use real butter. The viewing rooms are the smaller-sized that are common now in multi-theatres. Seats were comfortable and the sound quality was okay. I didn't get a chance to check the restrooms out. Parking is on the street. I would say this was an A-OK. Hard to beat the price and only two blocks from my living quarters. Plus, there are a few restaurants nearby to kill time if Welden's movie times aren't what you thought they were. read more

Small town theatre. The sound isn't as good as larger facilities. The two smaller screens have odd seating arrangements. On the plus side, you usually can get into the big new release. Tickets are a couple of bucks cheaper than the larger theatres and the food/drink is much cheaper here. read more

This place is alright for what it is. My parents when I was younger would bring my brother and I here several times a year but as I've gotten older, I prefer high quality places like Essex cinemas or Majestic 10. A little while ago we came to see The Campaign. The place was so dead! I wasn't sure if there were more than 4 people in the theater including the two employees. The quality of the movies and sound are actually pretty good. The movie ticket prices are very good and the cost for popcorn and candy are very reasonable compared to other theaters. The service was a little under par, not terribly friendly or anything positive. That really doesn't matter too much tho, just coming to see a movie! The location is ideal near dining and places like Rite aid if you are looking for some more decent priced movie snacks. read more

I hope to update this when I've seen another show. We went to one of the Way Back Wednesday shows. Free movie!! Whoo hoo!! The only problem was that the sound quality was Awful. The three stars is because it was FREE otherwise it would have gotten two stars!! Popcorn was great though! read more

I like small town theaters and tonight was our second (and last) time at the Welden. We saw a movie and there was a group of four teenage kids who spent the entire time taking pictures (with flash) on their phones, talking, or shouting rather, at full volume and generally being obnoxious and self-absorbed the entire movie. Two different people spoke up asking them to be quiet but there was no proper theater staff to hold anyone accountable. There were two 16 year olds running the theater who were super sweet, but seriously no ADULTS to deal with them and kick them out. Which is what should have happened. 10 minutes after the movie started I tried to go see a movie, the owners refused to let us in even though there were plenty of seats and the previews were still playing. This is my first and last experience here. I would highly recommend not attending this theater. I have never had an experience like this at a movie theater in my life. read more

This place is REALLY run down...but they do play first rate movies and I THANK GOD this theatre is in St. Albans!!! The good/excellent thing about it is the prices are EXTREMELY REASONABLE. Movie tickets are a couple dollars less than regular first rate theatres, and their popcorn, candy and soda are all about half the price of regular theatres as well. Overall - it's so worth the money and the only thing in town!!! read more

Welden is a perfect example of the type of theater you just don't see much of anymore. It's a privately owned, small-town, long-established theater in the heart of downtown Saint Albans. You won't find a ton of parking, a huge lobby, a giant selection of food, 20+ screens, arena style seating, electronic ticketing, etc. You WILL find a friendly staff, perfectly made popcorn, a clean establishment, large theaters with big screens and a great rotation of new films with plenty of options for screen times. I think it's great Saint Albans still has a theater like this that is cared for and still running strong. I hope it stays that way. read more

This movie theater has gone digital- but not in a good way when it comes to picture quality. Quite clearly they have skimped either on the projectors, or simply on the set up for those projectors. From the opening credits and ads you will see that the video image is slightly fuzzy - just barely on the edge of being in focus. The sound is still good, and they do show multiple films at a time - however, 2 of the showing rooms I have been in have the same issue. I've been in to see a movie twice in the past 6 months - both times I have asked others in the theater if it looked fuzzy to them, and after positive affirmations, I have gone to the front desk about it. I was told, "these are all digital- and it is what it is - they can't get focused" Twice is enough to keep me out - especial with the same experience both times. I don't want to have to drive 30 minutes extra to see a movie that's shown IN FOCUS, but if you want a good Movie Theater Experience, skip this place until they can get a digital video if not in digital laser-like clarity - at least looking crisp enough not to rub your eyes. If you go there, and see what I mean, feel free to ask for your ticket money back - maybe they will figure out that fuzzy for a movie theater is just not acceptable. read more

Unbelievable experience . Owner was stressing out the whole time . Wouldn't, let patrons buy snacks until the earlier show was out . Kept screaming at people to put popcorn back and kept people herded against the wall because the side exit was blocked by snow . Can you say fire code violation . Will take the extra 40 minutes to drive to Williston or Essex next time. read more

This place is awesome!!! I'm from out of state and was here working when i decided to give the Welden a shot. I am a bit biased as i'm an old school kinda' guy...Other than the fact that I couldn't get a hot dog, I love this theatre. It is what it is...an older, established theatre in a small town trying to provide a place for folks to go without breakin' 'em. Reasonable rate ticket prices, candy/drinks at a price you can live, and lower tickets...not to mention REAL butter on your popcorn. What more could ya' want in a movie house? Well, other than a hot dog that is(big grin). If I could buy this place, i'd do it today...THANKS to the folks who DO own/run the Welden, for keeping a throwback piece of Americana goin'... read more
