Watching a film here feels like a classy, out of time event. The lobby, the gorgeous ceiling, the balcony, all softly swoon worthy - the restoration was award-winning for a reason. It's wonderful that this place survived so many decades of change and offers such a soul-soothing space to experience the magic of movies. But they just don't show enough of them! The schedule should be packed, as far as I'm concerned, with the best modern and historic cinema has to offer, but all too often it sits empty waiting to be rented out for events. I think you could fill this place 3 times a day with creative programming involving the local university film programs and art galleries... just sayin.

Beautiful chandelier on the ground floor, old world wall sculpures on each side of the screen on the top floor, which can be clearly seen from a very impressive balcony. Last night I went to see a film adaptation of Charles Dicken's novel "Oliver Twist." The film,shot on 16mm and released in 1922, was silent with English subtitles. In addition to the film itself, the musical score was played live, in house by a wonderful pianist who played a baby grand piano at the front of the theatre for the entirety of the film - AWESOME. I arrived well before the film commenced as I suspected the theatre would be packed. My prediction couldn't have been more inaccurate. I'd say there about 15 people in the audience. This baffles me. For $7 (student price), this is the best value for anyone who appreciates the cinema or culture in general. GO!

The theater in itself is very modern. They have a cute little bar upstairs, Dudley & Dudley, which is open one hour before and one hour after each performance taking place on the Main Stage. They serve coffee, wines, pastries, salads tuna or salmon tataki as well as vegetarian dishes. That evening, I went to see a dramatic play that took place on the Main Stage. In terms of acoustics, the sound was distributed perfectly in the room and regarding the seats, they were comfortable and the space for the legs was rather standard.
