The ball run was even surprisingly fun. Get a ball! Even adults - just do it. It was a lot of fun taking turns and watching the ball go down. The inside was also interesting- watching the river otter swim loops. The gift shop is large and full of great items with a huge variety. Books and clothes and gifts. And of course the Trolls were the best part: absolutely stunning and magical

The entry works pretty smoothly though, and since we had prepaid tickets, they were able to look us up, give us a map and we were parked quickly. I was there specifically for the Thomas Dambo exhibit. He is a Danish sculpture artist known for his giant trolls made out of recycled wood. Each troll is unique and has a name and purpose....to save the Humans and teach them about sustainability. The trails are beautiful in the woods and clearly marked. There was a beautiful section of the forest where an original piece of music was being played from 24 speakers as you followed the trail. An enchanting small lake filled with water lilies was out the back door of the main building. They have a small cafeteria and a nice gift shop. The building was full of interesting exhibits, including a tank with otters.

It is a small museum that is geared towards children, but we enjoyed exploring the animal displays (lots of turtles!) and learning about Champy. I think it's fascinating that Champy predates the Loch Ness Monster, and is a beloved being in Vermont. Does it actually exist? What is it? Who knows? These are the types of questions that we pondered. We actually learned quite a lot, especially about the different species in Lake Champlain (eels!). I liked seeing the baby softshell turtles - so cute. It was also cool to see the sturgeon in the big tank. The second floor is a lot of interactive STEM stations, which were cool but it was a bit busy so we didn't spend a ton of time here, as we wanted to allow all the kids to check them out. Just want to note that the people at the front desk were super kind and friendly. There is a gift shop area which has some really cool souvenirs. I think this museum might be best for younger kids, but I still enjoyed it. I don't think I need to go back every time we're in Burlington, but glad we got to check it out.

It's a relatively small aquarium and has small gift shop at the entrance. There are 2 floors consist of small tanks of sea creatures and fishes and science interactive games. It was entertaining but we got through the entire place in 30-45min. Staffs were nice overall and friendly. As an adult we paid 23$ per person and i don't think that it was worth it as i've been to other aquariums that are much larger and offers much more things to see. I can see that it may be good for family and kids but will be a short trip and better to spend more time at the park right outside for walks or shopping at the church street market.

All have a museum of some sort and Lake Placid (1932 and 1980) is no exception. Lake Placid is one of the smallest cities to host and it's clear even today that it would have been challenged with the huge event. Today, there are huge hotels and the roads have been improved but it is far from major transportation and I would imagine transportation was a big challenge. The XIII Winter Games was held from February 13 to 24, 1980. Americans will best remember it for the men's hockey who unexpectedly won the gold medal, defeating the Soviet (not yet "Russia") team in the game now called the Miracle on Ice (multiple movies including one starring Kurt Russell). The museum has a big section specifically dedicated to this series and the original scoreboard is on display. Lots of other memorabilia including uniforms, tickets, and such. What museum would be complete without a gift shop and this one is rather spendy. But how often does one visit little Lake Placid? [Round number review 500 in New York - 1585 of 2024 - 22608 overall]

They even have a few train tables inside one of the trains! Outside the museum, there are 3 types of trains you can ride on (small medium and large). Starting with the medium one, it's an old fashioned cable car type of train you can ride on that loops around the museum with a few stops along the way. It was probably used for short distances as a city train. This train seems to be running all the time while the museum is open (maybe not during the winter months but I could be wrong) The small train is a bench train you straddle where you go through the forest and into a tunnel. This bench train is basically benches on wheels connected to each other in series, pulled by a strong lawnmower, but it totally works and it's sooo fun!! This train is definitely not running in the winter for obvious reasons. (Update: I stand corrected it IS open during the winter!!) The last train you can ride on, the really large one, is a noisy passenger train that has a really high ceiling it was probably used for long distances. I didn't see this train all the time so it might have a specific schedule. There's also a model train room and this is by far my 3 year old son's favorite spot as Thomas the train is there! Unfortunately more often than not Thomas is out of commission but you can still see him even if he's not going down his track. I also went here around Halloween and they decorate the trains as per my Yelp photos. A dream come true for any train enthusiast, even a 2 year old would enjoy it (mine started going at that age) Not too far of a drive from Montreal maybe 30-45 mins max. If you don't have a car not to worry as you can get here via the TRAIN as it's right next to a train station! There's also a small IMAX room which is extra in addition to the entrance fee. They also have a cute souvenir store. You could easily spend the day here if you have the energy or interest, there's so much to see! The folks who work here are super friendly and know their stuff when it comes to history and trains!

Then we went in and just missed the tour of the homestead. However, Tom, who was really nice, and knew alot about history, took us to the current tour of the house. There is an admission fee for the tour, and i was lucky enough that i was given a student discount because i look young for my age. I appreciate that. Also the staff was very nice, all of them. Tom took us through to the house and told us about Ethan Allen, even told us about those beautiful flowers that one can freshly cut from the garden. Tom took us to our tour in the house, where a woman took over. Very interesting and very educational. i also enjoy history, so that is a plus. After the tour, we cut fresh flowers that were beautiful and lasted our whole vermont trip! Then we went inside and watched the movie about Ethan Allen. in the movie area, there is also dress up, and one can try to weave like in the days of when Ethan Allen was living. didn't try it, but it is so cool. highly recommend for any history buff, and my favorite tour guide was Tom. He seems to know his stuff, which is great, plus admire his energy! Oh and restrooms were very clean.
