What a fun place to visit! It is the world's largest gourd farm! Today was a beautiful day to take the drive to this spot. I came in search for the perfect Ipu for my hula class. As I was reaching the location I could see the gourds lined up on the field. I was greeted by a friendly staff member. After informing the staff what I was in need for a gourd she pulled out a clip board with a order form. When I walked out the door I was in awe of the amount of gourds that were available! I was the only one there so it was nice to have the space and take my time looking. After selecting about 8 and was able to break it down to two that I liked the employee filled out the form. She inspected for any weak spots since she knew I would be using it as an instrument. I grabbed a tool that is used to clean out the inside of a gourd. It is a wand like with a ball covered in pieces of crystals to break up the membrane inside of the gourd once attached to your drill. I took a look around the gift shop and was intrigued by the beautiful work that can be done on gourds. They also carry an assortment of stains and dyes. Also drill bits and burning tools. We came out here to find an ipu for my daughter's hula class. It was quite the trek out here but totally worth it. They have such an amazing selection and we had such a fun time looking at all the different gourds, giving them a tap and making sure it fit our daughter's little hands. We found one that we thought looked just like her. The new owner was so sweet and let the kids play with the goats, chicken, and dogs. The goats were just like dogs and would follow us around. We had the best time and would come back for more ipus. We also loved their little store with some really awesome artwork. read more

Great selections on gourds! If you know hula, this is the place to find your perfect fit! Farm: easy to meander through the rows of piled gourds on tables . They even have the little tiny ones for great Christmas ornaments! The farm is a bit out of the way but google maps got us there without confusion. Lots of parking . There are no pretty flowers , tropical settings here. It's a gourd farm. Service: Shipping costs are configured after you leave. I liked that they offered shipping but what I didn't like was not knowing the costs or given an estimated $. That's tough coming from outer state on not knowing your total bill. It's pretty much self serve here and when you are done selecting your gourds, place all your gourds into the "sorting table," and a nice worker will come out and begin sorting it out for you. Each gourd is placed in a template of different circle sizes and the gourd that fits the best in the circle template (determines size) then that will be your cost. The worker uses a worksheet to keep track of the different gourds you are buying. It's an effective system. I liked this farm and it's overall product and service. read more

Ten months ago, we booked their rental properties for our wedding weekend, signed the contract, and paid our deposit. Then, Phoebe emails us one month before our wedding letting us know they are cancelling our reservation due to "restructuring". None of the reasons Phoebe provided would legally constitute a forfeiture of the reservation or a default by us, as defined in our contract; nor did Phoebe write back to our email when we shared our frustrations and willingness to work together to honor the contract. To make matters worse, our reservation days were immediately made available again on their website at a much higher price (an inflation play?). This is all to say: Welburn Gourd Farm is incredibly suspect in their business practices, offers absolutely no communication, and should be considered a high risk when booking for your big day. read more

One of the hidden wonders in my community of Deluz. We live in one of the most bio diverse regions in the world actually one of 25 of the most bio diverse regions. We have quite a bit of agriculture out here and one of the most amazing places to visit is the Welborn gourd farm where they grow very extravagant gourds annually, season is just getting started right now so in a few months you can walk through the gourd groves and see the beautiful shapes and sizes and variety and diverse species of plants... One of our local favorites, and a fantastic place to visit if you're trying to experience north county San Diego, there's a lot of history in the area as well, I highly recommend taking your time and driving around before landing at the gourd farm but make sure you have your directions right and if you don't have AT&T or Verizon you probably won't get service out here so just FYI be prepared to be without phone service if you have T-Mobile or anything else not AT&T or Verizon. To say we are disappointed with the family of this farm is an understatement. We rented their 3 properties on their farm for the weekend of our wedding about a year out from our actual wedding date. Fast forward to about a month before our wedding, they reach out saying they are cancelling our reservation and all reservations of March and April 2022 due to "restructuring". Now, you can only imagine how frantic we felt trying to find a new rental a month out from our wedding. We thoroughly combed through our contract and nowhere was there a reason for cancellation laid out in their contract. We brought this to their attention and we have heard radio silence from them since their message of cancellation. No compensation was given for time spent finding a new rental that accommodates our wedding party and pets or the fact that now we are having to pay way more for our lodging for the weekend of our wedding. All we got was their "sincere apologies" and hotels nearby as if those options can accommodate pets. And the best cherry on top to this whole situation is when we check their website, the weekend we booked them for is magically available as of this writing, but for $500 more than what we had booked them for. Very peculiar if you ask me. Just beware when booking lodging accommodations from this farm. read more

Awesome way to spend a day. Drive to the farm is beautiful.... and oh so many gourds. The staff was super helpful and knowledgeable, they were able to answer all our questions. Be prepared to buy more gourds than you need... but we have so many ideas on how to use them. This was a great outing.... we will definitely be back! read more

Wife & I took the beginners course for $39/ea, fours hours long and found it quite fun. Basic instruction was good with use of their burning tools, stains & paints on a gourd that was provided as part of the class. We discovered later that if we had taken the free online tutorials at their web site before the class, we would have gotten more out of the class since the instructor did not explain all the key aspects of the design process that we found later online. I've been ordering my gourds from Welburn Gourd Farm for the past 2 years. We live in Northern California and decided to make the trek to the farm. It was well worth the trip! Arrived as it was opening in the morning and was greeted by Taylor (new office staff member). She thoroughly explained the pricing, how to clean the gthat hadn't been cleaned and answered all of our questions. 90 minutes later with our two wheelbarrows full, we purchased 56 gourds. Taylor made our gourd hunting a fun experience. I give the farm and staff 5 Stars. We plan to do it again next year! read more

What a great experience! Drove from Palm Desert which was a long trip but was fun and beautiful. The staff, on January 25, was fantastic! BUYER BEWARE!!!!! Welburn has their standard canteen gourds on sale AGAIN but STAY AWAY! Their website claims the large canteen gourds are 9 - 10 inches in diameter. I ordered two boxes of large gourds for purses, the largest gourd I received was 8 1/2 inches! Normally not a problem but I make gourd purses and these are too small PLUS the second box contained a structurally cracked gourd (they had included an 'extra practice' gourd which I assume was to make up for the cracked one?????). I contacted them and was told I could return them but I would have to pay shipping and when they received them they'd let me know if a credit would be issued. California has been in a long drought and I suspect their gourds have ' shrunk' too! Will start buying from other gourd growers! read more

Made the car trip to the gourd farm... it was a hike! Unfortunately the staff was totally unfriendly and unhelpful. If you can avoid going there, order the gourds you need on line. You don't need the sour energy. read more
