Very local and we were the only tourists here for dinner. No English speaking wait staff. We did not have a reservation so they sat us at the end of a large table where another local couple were at the other end. My German was from a long time ago and not very fluent, so wading through the menu yielded us a dinner of sorts. Wife had Kasespatzle ( a cheesy noodle dish) at 14.30 euros, I had a nine piece plate of Nurnberger bratwurst at 15 euros. Our wines were at 6.20 and 7.50 euros. Nice place to eat while in Freising before your flight out of Munich. The location is in a really nice little corner of the beautiful old town section of the city. The restaurant is very traditional looking and they have a very nice, large outdoor seating area as well. The waiter was a little stern, but not lacking in service or quality. The Schweinebraten was a Little too fatty for my liking, and the pork skin crackling wasn't very crispy. The beer sauce was very good though. The bread dumpling was really good, and the potato dumpling was a little less than average. Overall, not a bad place to eat a meal, but not the best you can do either. I had no idea this was such a famous Bavarian restaurant. I was walking around Freising and stopped by for a beer. While enjoying the day, another person sat next to me and we began talking. He said that the restaurant is well known for its Bavarian fare. I tried the Bavarian meat loaf with potatoes. It was excellent! By the time I left, almost every table was reserved for the evening, a further indicator of its popularity. If you like to eat earlier in the day, they have a special menu for 1430-1730. It seems like the prices were just a little cheaper than the evening menu. One bad thing at the moment...there is construction on the street right next to the outdoor seating area. My wife Jackie and I had a lot of fun and a very good meal here. Life is good. We were staying at the Isar Hotel an easily-walked few blocks away. We were there on an overnight layover on the way back to America from a vacation in the Algarve (go there!). The restaurant the hotel manager recommended didn't appear to be placed precisely where she circled on the local map, so we did a little wandering around and came across a garten full of happy drinking and eating people. Here was Weissbrau Huber. There was a 12 second period where English v Deutsch was an issue, but we assured our waiter that he shouldn't panic about his lack of English because, well, we WERE in Germany, and we had survived this far with our crappy language larnin'. (Plus, I'd get to work on my Deutsch just a little bit more, much to our excellent waiter's chagrin, probably.) Turned out not to be an issue, though, because a busperson suddenly whisked the menus, candles, salt and pepper and everything else that wasn't festnagelt to the table. We asked why, to which he remarked, "We don't want everything to get wet." Us, neither. So we went inside. Thereby confusing the poop out of our poor waiter (verzeihung, dude) when he came looking for us at our table, only to find it completely empty, including bier Steins, which I'm sure he figured were coming out of his hide. I tackled the speedy fellow, managed to explain the gist of the situation, and he soon found us a table for two in a small alcove. Served by English-speaking waiters. Now, they DO have a special menu translated into English, French, Italian and probably other languages. But I'm guessing they don't usually have to worry about such trifles - the multilingual Karte was clean and uncreased. The place was packed, but seemingly entirely with local residents. There were a whole bunch of young people, even what looked like groups of young high-school age kids. A cheerful knot of several young couples sat in the table next to us, and on the other side a trio of young women who looked like they had just come from a Fussball match. There were a bunch of dad-n-mom-n-the-kids tables. And just like the people outside, everyone was enjoying the heck out of their evening. Weissbrau Huber looks like a place where local people just come for a nice, relaxing and fun dinner. Which was what we had. The Weissbier and Jaegerbier were both great. Get those. My special Szegediner Gulasch was outstanding, with melt-in-my-mouth pork smothered in rowdy sauce. The kraut in it was a bit bland, which seemed odd, but no matter - it was delicious. Jackie's Schweinelendchen (pork loin with mushroom sauce) was kind of understated, which some boring Spaetzele didn't help, but it was fine, and the noodles were saved when they were employed to sop up the remaining Gulasch gravy. Dessert was a little disappointing. The Apfelstrudel was very tasty, but the crust was soggy. I had dessert crepes with apricot sauce that were also soggier than they needed to be. I'd suggest ending dinner with Schnapps or another Bier instead. The world was wet when we emerged happy and full from the restaurant, making us glad we had puzzled the waiter by heading inside. We had a little more trouble crossing the river and trudging up the (small) hill back to the restaurant than we had going down due in part to some intense relaxation that had occurred during dinner. But we made it, by gosh golly. We'll have to do this again some time. Go there. read more

Excellent spot for anyone new to German culture!! Had a great waiter who gave us 5 different types of beers so we had variety in the group. We ordered the King Ludvig which was HUGE. Can easily be split between a group of 4. Lots of meat variety and dumplings, sauces, and cabbage/sauerkraut. Also ordered the schnitzel and the pretzels with sausages; very traditional German dish. Very nice place to eat. Went there on a recommendation of a good friend and was not let down. Very friendly staff and great menu. The beer selection was excellent and if you didn't know what you wanted the staff was very knowledgable to suit your taste. The service was fast and very efficient. The portion sizes were great. The atmosphere was the perfect German old school feel to it. The place was crowded but the noise level was still low enough our group could hear each other. Two of my group had the burgers which seem to be a local favorite by the amount of them I saw being served. Great place and will be on the short list for my next visit. read more

This is a neighborhood beer hall (think pub) in the old town part of Freising. I first tried it when the staff of the Marriott recommended it asa good place to eat and I returned there on several subsequent business trips to Germany. My wife as joined me there for a couple of meals as well. They do have a menu in English. The atmosphere is great with hops used as part of the decorations and nice stained glass windows on a partition wall. Make reservations. You may only get a table for a time slot of reservations are tight but service is fast and you can get in and out in an hour if you order quickly. As in any beer hall, you may be sharing a table. Dogs are welcome at beer halls and if you look around you may see a well-behaved dog or two sleeping under a table or sitting at its master's knee. Public drunkenness is frowned upon in Germany; you've been warned. Alles gut! as the Germans say. We've usually had the Spatzle (egg noodles with cheese) and pork, *small portion*. How big is the large portion? You don't want to know! I highly recommend this place but make reservations and don't be the rude, loud American if you eat there. The weissbier (wheat beer) is excellent: likewise the food. Pork in Germany is a better quality than the US is is typically leaner and a bit tougher because it's not injected with water. The best eating establishment in Freising. This is an authentic German pub/restaurant, filled with old photos and large tables. Fresh beer on draft. This place is always busy. We think that the best thing on the menu is the Original Bayrisher krustenbraten mit dunkelbiersauce, which is pork in dark beer sauce. You can order a large portion, which is enough to feed two people. The dish also comes with baked purple cabbage with apples, which is also delightful. Clearly this place is very popular, so no outrageous comments to add. Great Bavarian food at very appealing prices. More focused on traditional Bavarian food than modern interpretations.
