Being able to pick up my (large) bakery order and not leaving someone disappointed at home makes me happy. Had my list of must haves. I meandered through all the departments. Wasn't on a time schedule. I spent 2 hours in the store. Found beautiful baby lamb chops. Filets were $6/lb cheaper than my grocery store. Bought beautiful endive. Had to bring home the red wine peppered salami. Coming home, opening the cooler, and handing out foodie presents is like Christmas morning. The oohs and aahs were heard at multiple houses. The staff were very helpful finding my treasures. Wegmans trips make traveling for business worth it.

It is a bit of a drive from State College, PA, but it appears this is the closest traditional butcher to State College. Their prices are about the same (some cuts were a few cents to a $1 cheaper) as a grocery store and it appears they have bulk specials. The lighting nor the signage inside was very good, which made the first time going here a bit confusing/overwhelming. They have fresh sliced and freshly grounded meats (pork and beef). They do have some chicken products, deli meats and frozen fish. It looked like there is a case for fresh fish, but there wasn't any fish in the case when I was there (which was weird since it was the week before Christmas). The staff was very friendly and almost too fast. I haven't tried the ground beef and pork I purchased just yet. But if it's good, I may consider going out there every now and then.

There are many things worth noting about this store that are good. There was marginal mask wearing by the employees, about 50%, and about 25% by the customers. Both groups are thus inconsiderate, to themselves and to their customers, and to the related area. Mask wearing is a super easy way to reduce the spread and help us get back to work and play. It saddens me that in this somewhat christian area, known for its churches (many Mennonites work there, and Mennonites and Amish shop there, you can recognize them by their clothing and lack of mask), that they are not being kind, Christian, nor sensible. What would Jesus do? He would wear a bleeding mask. I did speak with the manager who noted that workers had been reprimanded. But within sight of us were two workers not wearing their mask close to correctly! One if left to ask, do they believe in food hygiene even, then? do they believe in food safety? If they won't follow some of the most necessary and visible public safety rules, what do they do when we are not looking? Do they "believe" in cold chain? Do they believe in the pathogen theory of disease? I guess I'll go back post pandemic, but I did lose a little faith in humanity in that the manager (the manager!) felt powerless to enforce public safety on her own employees. I cut my visit short, reported them to the PA Department of Health, and wrote this review. I will also have to be less sympathetic to groups of folks that do not support public health. I left sadly disappointed.

I like this store, they generally have good things…read more   But, they ahh, are deceptive.  The fresh bagels are not cooked fresh there, but arrive frozen and defrosted to be fresh [there was a photo, I hope it stays up].  I have purchased frozen bagels in the fresh bakery section.  I think this is at best deceptive and at worst, dishonest.  Fresh does not mean fresh from frozen in my book.  At least the worker (AND THE MANAGER!) did not lie or evade the question that yes, they were frozen, and I think they died a little inside as they had to argue that that frozen bagel was fresh in some realistic or wholesome way.   So, worth going to, but, now it is store policy to ask for your drivers license to get the store card and to require the store card. without the store card, things can be significantly more expensive. why do I want to have my purchases recorded? Walmart Auto Center Benner pike is the worst. I was to have an oil change and they drained the…read moretransmission before catching it. The manager and Team lead where both there when i picked up my car and didn't bother to tell me that there was a mishap on their part. This happened in may and I am still waiting for compensation. I asked if the insurance would pay for a rental car, which i was told i would have to send them a copy on the invoice. Keep in mind you can only rent a car for 30 days. I don't have the means to pay for a rental car and wait months to get reimbursed for it. Store manager Mike was no help at all when I contacted him, he told me it was an insurance issue. The compensation may be in insurance issue which i have options on them as well. The store manager should be responsible to the customer's complaint and address it, but he doesn't care. I have contacted Walmart Headquarters 3 times and was told i would be contacted, that's a joke because I have yet to hear from anyone.

The store associates sanitize the carts immediately when they are returned. There are also wipes located near the entrance and hand sanitizer. I liked that they control how many people enter the store. It allows for social distancing and makes you feel more comfortable shopping and looking at items before deciding whether to purchase or not. My friend had to speak with the manager about a previous purchase and the manager was very nice and accommodating.

Still though, going to TJs once every few months isn't ideal. So imagine my delight when I'm driving to my clinical rotation site at State College, and what do I see - Trader mutha$#*in' JOE'S. I'm only up here for 5 weeks total, but I've gone here every single day so far. I've probably spent about $500 in the last four weeks. I love this place. It's exactly how Trader Joe's should be: bright, inviting, clean, and with an excellent selection of food and goods. Hell, even the staff is as jovial as the ones back home, which is proof that they have incredible system-wide hiring practices. If you're in the area, go to Trader Joe's. Just bask in the glory of the wonderful stuff that they have. Pro tip: if you're going to do one thing to elevate your charcuterie game, make it the herb-crusted Chèvre goat cheese and grab a jar or the hot and sweet pepper jelly. Crackers are your choice. Apparently, it is owned by Giant and operates stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. This grocery store had the typical departments that most grocery stores have, but I felt very pleased with the large selection of products and the low prices. I also noticed a sign that said that employees start at an hourly wage of $15 per hour, so I feel happy that the employees are paid well above minimum wage. My cashier was nice and accurately rang up my items, but she was also emotionally withdrawn because apparently a previous customer had been mean to her. But I understand the situation, and I liked how two other employees were team-oriented and were empathizing with her. Finally, I saw a robot that was searching for spills and other hazards--how fun!
