Shrimp friend rice with extra scallions, onions, and eggs.
    Andrea B.

Grabbing some food to take home. It's my first time visiting this spot. I discovered it through a google search for Thai restaurants in the area near me (Battery Park). It was a very calm atmosphere inside the dining space. Dimly lit. The wait staff at the front door waited patiently for me to make my selections and was accommodated my special requests. I went with the fried rice with shrimp. The food was made fresh to order and came quickly.

Loved the shrimp pad Thai and hot and sour soup today. Very impressed that even though they are undergoing renovations, the kitchen is still operational and the food tastes the same as always! I ordered online and the food was ready when I arrived. Excellent customer service as usual. The gold standard of Asian cooking! I hope this place does not close because I saw a sign that says Friedman's is taking over the space. Please, do no close! I will continue to takeout from here.

Have seen mixed reviews but was craving Chinese take out. Order was prompt and ready when I arrived. Hot and sour soup had a good kick to it. Wish it had more mushrooms. Beef lo mein was great. Noodles were chewy and flavored without drowning in sauce. Beef was cooked well with some char marks on it.

Have been ordering a lot of takeout recently and Wei West has become our go-to restaurant in the area for Asian food. The sushi rolls have been consistently good as well as the noodles dishes (especially the Pad Thai and the Chow Fun). The Sizzling Beef Short Ribs is also one of our favorites. In a recent order we tried the Wei West Pizza (a crunchy crust with spicy tuna, guacamole, spicy mayo and eel sauce) and it was terrific - a great combination of flavors with a bit of a spicy kick. The restaurant is setup for easy pickups with a table for the orders upfront and service is friendly and efficient. Highly recommend and will continue to return!

My gf and I went here with our friend and it was very good! Our friend said she has not stopped thinking about the food from the last time she went (which was about a year ago). We could definitely see why. We got the shrimp pad thai and general tso chicken, both were so tasty and fresh. We loved that they had a gluten free menu! The restaurant is also right near the financial district which is such a fun spot!

Take out pad Thai - this was surprisingly better than I thought it would be. The chicken is really tender and the portion is huge
    Mel T.

Quality has gone down in the past few years. I ordered the Pad Thai again, but this time, I asked if they could make it spicy. Apparently to them, this just means to add extra salt/fish sauce. I was only able to eat half before my tongue started to get numb from all the sodium, and I didn't want it to fall off. I paid $18 (including tax and tip) for some Bad Thai. On the flip side, my colleague ordered the chow fun and said it was bland AF. Guess they saved all the salt for my dish. Wei West was the go-to for team outtings since it is close to the office and can usually seat large groups (I say usually because this past time we went, our group of ten was seated by the sushi bar, even though we made reservations ahead of time). Kind of defeats the whole purpose of a team lunch. Will be looking for a new spot next time.

Lunch special - choice of 3 rolls
    Cristina G.

Wei West has been my go-to for a quick light bite for YEARS and also our usual spot for team outings, but after our last visit, I can confidently say we won't be back. I diligently made a reservation for 10 people 2 weeks in advance. When we showed up for our team lunch yesterday, I told them we had a reservation under my name and the woman in the front INSISTED that we did not. Not even an apology for the confusion, just accusing me of not making a reservation. Ok, off a lovely start. We asked if they could still accommodate us with seating, even if we had to divide our group up into 5 and 5, but nope! 8 of us were uncomfortably squeezed into the bar area (I sat in front of a pile of plates and had a waitress' hand in my face every few minutes when she went to grab one) and 2 others were seated at a small table behind us. This was certainly not the team lunch we envisioned. If the prior accusations of me not making a reservation were not enough, a man mentioned to my boss that it's not their fault (again, are we still on this?!) because a reservation wasn't made. They were so adamant about me not making a reservation and pointing fingers. That's not how you treat loyal customers. Is it not possible that the person who I made the reservation with messed up? Do only perfect beings work there? C'mon, man. I would have deducted a couple of stars for the garbage service alone, but I went ahead and reduced this to 1 star because the quality of the food has declined drastically. We ate at the sushi bar since we didn't have a table and the smell was totally unappetizing. The last time I ordered from here, the salmon in my roll was mushy and falling apart, and after sitting at that sushi bar, I know it's because their sushi quality has gone down to 0. For my lunch, I ordered 2 rolls (staying away from any raw fish from here though). I ordered one special roll at a whopping $15.95 which was ridiculous, along with a basic avocado roll. The fried fish in my special roll was cold and the avocado roll was swapped for a California roll instead of the roll I ordered. Woof. 3 of my colleagues also complained about their food being overly salty or overly spicy. What is going on in this place?! To top this all off, they added $4 gratuity to my bill. Good approach on their part because I didn't think a tip was deserved here at all. They can have the $4 as my parting gift to them because I won't be back. Service? Non-existent. Quality? None whatsoever.

    Happy hour menu
    Shaji K.

Stopped by here after work on a Thursday night for a quick meal. Despite the happy hour, not many people inside the restaurant, so was able to grab a seat at the bar immediately. Happy hour is 4:30-7pm Monday-Friday with specials on drinks as well as small plates. Decided on the Chicken Satay ($6) to go along with a draft beer ($6). Meal includes two skewers of grilled chicken, peanut sauce, and a small side salad. have to admit that the chicken was not very good - tough meat that tasted old. Peanut sauce did not help matters much, though the side salad was fine enough. Server here is very thorough and even warned patrons of the happy hour ending soon. Probably wouldn't eat here again, but would go back for drinks.

The place was pretty busy at 10:00 PM last Saturday, with a wide range of diners, which is good for business. The food though, at least that night, was really disappointing. My friend had the chicken dumplings. He said they were okay. I thought they were overcooked. My steamed shrimp shumai were fine, but steamed, they didn't have much flavour. The edamame, on the other hand, had way too much when it should have almost none. I don't know if it was excess salt, MSG or something else, but not good. I should have sent them back. I hope this was just an off night for the kitchen.

The pacing of the meal for the quantity of food received seemed very rushed, and we didn't really have a chance to relax and enjoy any of the courses. However, the quality of the experience was a complete disaster particularly for the price. Clearly, the packed restaurant would disagree, but for the four of us anyway, we would not return. It started with the check in process at what felt like a long hotel front desk with multiple, self important hosts and hostesses overseeing your entrance to the cavernous bar/waiting area. One problem is the noise is so deafening that you can't really hear what they say to you but we check in a few minutes early and waited obediently in the bar area chatting. After about 30 minutes (15 after our reservation time), and watching numerous parties large and small who arrived after us be seated by the hostesses wandering through the dimly lit space who peer quizzically and ask your name, my husband went to ask for an update. (We joked that those vibrating lighted buzzers alerting when your table was ready would have been super helpful, but it was amusing to watch while we waited). It was clear they somehow lost track of us as she had him repeatedly spell our (not unusual) name. Anyway, after that, within 10 minutes after that we were taken downstairs to our seats (but not before standing awkwardly in the large dining area near packed tables waiting while our table was cleaned). Server with a heavy accent was kind and mostly helpful so none of this is on him. The busser who managed to spill half a pitcher of cold water on my husband's back, soaking his shirt and jacket and barely apologizing, is a whole other story. We managed to get a glass of his mediocre Cabernet comped for the experience. If I sound annoyed, I guess I still am. I had high hopes for a fun and tasty experience in a cool part of the city and it just wasn't.

Onto the mains and I ventured towards their Spicy Drunken Noodle (my go-to whenever I'm hitting a Thai restaurant on my home turf) and... yeah, you probably guessed it - incredible. Not the biggest portion but they made every single component sing with flavor. With so much going on - of course I needed to indulge with another drink (hey, I wasn't driving!). There were six of us, it came to about $100 a person... welcome to NYC. But we did get a wide selection of plates/food and those two drinks accounted for about $40 of my tab. (And you'll never see such a heavy wine pour at a restaurant... they filled the glass almost to the rim - which was not even something I'd do for myself when I'm home.) Definitely recommended.
