Upon visiting Upon The Palace, the first thing that stood out was the atmosphere. The setting was surprisingly nice for a Chinese restaurant, with tasteful decor, a clean dining area, and an overall upscale appearance. At first glance, it definitely gave the impression of a more refined dining experience. One thing that immediately caught my attention though was the inconsistency with the table settings. Around the same table, there were different types of utensils, different size forks, mismatched chopstick colors, and even different styles of water glasses between guests. It may sound minor, but details like that take away from the polished and classy feel the restaurant seems to be aiming for. For appetizers, I ordered the calamari. It was fine overall, mostly rings with no tentacles or legs mixed in. Personally, I was hoping for at least a little variety in texture with a few legs included. Flavor wise, it was decent but nothing particularly memorable or unique. The beef fried rice was acceptable as well. The rice did not resemble traditional Asian jasmine rice, though that itself was not a major issue. It just felt more like standard fried rice rather than something elevated. The biggest disappointment for me was the half Peking duck, which was the dish I was most looking forward to. The portion size was surprisingly small, to the point where even my friend commented on how little duck was served for a "half duck" order. The taste itself was okay, but the presentation and quantity made it feel underwhelming, especially considering the pricing. The restaurant does have a bar inside, which is a nice addition visually, but it did not really add anything particularly special to the experience. The location itself is also in an expensive area, and it feels like part of the pricing may simply reflect the overhead costs of operating there. Overall, I walked away disappointed. I was expecting something much more memorable and refined given the prices and presentation of the restaurant. While the ambiance and cleanliness were solid, the food and overall experience did not feel spectacular enough to justify a return visit for me. read more

I was with a group of 7 and we spent about $1000 on a Thursday evening. They called last call at 9:05. Our food was delivered on a large tray next to our table when they opened their "garage door " to bring in their outdoor heaters ( cold food)and It happened to be an extremely cold night. Our table was not the only table at this time and we asked why they were closing the bar their response was we aren't that busy now, we said your hours say till 10pm. They basically said we didn't matter. The crispy beef was great and all the other food was meh. We will never dine here or do takeout I'm not sure how a business expects to stay in business widen they close because they want to go home. read more

Absolutely delicious food! My favorite were the bbq ribs. Omg so tasty and flavorful. A friend and I came here to catch up and had the Palace Fried Rice, the vegetable dumplings, Vegetable Spring Rolls, 2 orders of the bbq fried rice, general tso chicken with brown rice, one green tea mochi dessert to share and Cauliflower general tso style. All absolutely delicious! Our waiter was super attentive and staff was friendly. The space is very clean and gives upscale vibes. Love the wall decor by the seating booths. I highly recommend this place. Our bill without cocktails (didn't drink tonight) was $99 a piece with tax and tip. I would absolutely come back here! read more

After spending the evening at the Muse paintbar, we needed to find a quick place to eat, knowing that there were snow squalls on the road and it was super cold outside. With the time nearing 9:30pm, we were lucky that this place was open and willing to seat us. First off, this was one of the fanciest Chinese restaurants I've ever seen. Very elegant. We ordered two things: Edamame Sizzling tofu with mixed vegetables The tofu and veggies were quite satisfying. The edamame was fine, but not the best and quite a lot to finish between the two of us. Then again, it was also quite late in the evening. Overall, quite a solid Chinese restaurant in the area. Especially if you don't want the standard takeout. read more

Start a drink in the exquisite bar before sitting was exhilarating. The server seated us to the booth with stunning wall full of chinese ancient poem. The ambiance was phenomenal. Great for a date, party, or family/friends gathering. Service was great and food was breathtaking. Compare with other famous Chinese fusion places in the city, this restaurant is definitely a hidden gem. Both my family and I were impressed with how the chef controlled the temperature of the dishes and the way they deal with the filet mignon. From three cocktails , appetizers, soups, sushi, to the 4 entrees were all scrumptious. Looking for a fancy restaurant can accommodate two young kids just like a tough nut to crack, but we feel so welcomed and comfortable here. Well done the team. We will be back soon. The vibe of Upon The Palace was immaculate. I went by myself for dinner on a freezing cold day, and was instantly soothed by the warm environment. The decor is beautiful, and they had holiday decorations and music that made the mood even cozier. The staff was stand out, with Elvis at the bar making great conversation and even better drinks. The manager Kevin came to check on me halfway through my meal too, and seemed genuinely interested in making my experience the best it could be. Plus the food was all excellent, stand out would be the grilled Sea Bass which was wonderfully cooked and the salmon belly sushi. I would definitely go back for the experience alone! read more

Valentine's Day 2026 had a reservation for 8 people. Waited about 30 minutes for someone to help us and at least 2 1/2 hours later for all of our entree meals. They delivered cold soup and then only one dinner was served an hour later. Literally another hour later everyone else's food showed up after we complained. The owners uncle said they were short staffed; tables around us were getting their entire meals comped, yet they were still seating people. Once the remainder of the meals were delivered (minus a few sides that never arrived) the food was good. The uncle had said he would comp our meals, but we felt that wasn't right... overall, I understand regarding being short staffed, but don't continue to seat people if you can't handle the volume and be honest that your food is going to take 2 1/2 hours. I would have left after the first hour, but we were with a large party and just had to suck it up in NYC. Hopefully your experience is better! read more

Don't eat here. The xiao long bao was undercooked and the skin was chewy and doughy. Way too thick to be considered fine dining. We went on two occasions and on the second my daughter was scammed -- given the choice of "still water" or "sparkling" and no tap. They charged her $10 for the Voss water on the table. Ordered sweet and sour pork expecting something resembling photo on the website. Received something very different clearly. Walked back to restaurant because I live close by to show them the mix up. Get told that's the right dish by a waiter who was hovering by the host stand. The exact phrase was "That's the right dish the picture is off on the website, have a good night thank you" Just want someone to know that this is how a customer was treated basically felt like I was rushed out the door. I live across the street and noticed that this opened recently. Finally decided to try it on Sunday night and I was not disappointed. The ambiance is great and they have a nice little bar area. The food is definitely the star of the show, there is a wide menu which makes ordering fun and means you can get a little bit of everything. We got the soup dumplings, hero roll, half Peking duck, and foie gras fried rice. Everything was amazing. Menu is Asian fusion and has a lot of classic "Chinese restaurant" favorites, but this place is more than a little bit nicer than any of the other similar restaurants you'll find downtown. My husband and I had two visits. The first was nice with pretty good food and good service. Tonight was altogether different. The long pony tailed server was awful. She looked and acted out of place...sullen and uninterested. This time the food seemed awful. Shrimp fried rice with soy sauce dumped on it and not much else. The chicken crab soup was gross. A soup, fried rice and app came to $85. Might have been ok if the service was better. Won't be back. Hopefully they can pull it together. read more
