spicy dumplings- go to Charlie's instead.

I was a little underwhelmed. Service was great. Loved the saki based drinks. I could go to Charlie's Bakery and be just as happy when I thought about the food. I love the decor, but wonder how long they'll be around.

My husband and I had the opportunity to visit Wei, a new Chinese restaurant in downtown Anchorage during their soft launch and so we lept at the opportunity. We made reservations for Wei and wound up there half an hour early. We sat at the bar for the vibes. We ordered the 9 grid sampler box, spicy cucumber salad, shrimp fried rice, green beans with garlic, lobster scallion noodles, and pork xiao long bao. I noticed a lot of similar favorite dishes that I would frequently order at Din Tai Fung, so I was very excited upon ordering. They even have a window where you can see the chef make the xiao long bao!!!! There is a LOT of seating at this restaurant! The chandelier at the entrance is beautiful, the under counter lighting at the bar is cool as well. I love how upscale everything looks. It's also cool how the have an order kiosk at the front for those that just want to place a Togo order to take home. Since we sat at the bar, the bartender Phoebe, served us, she was very attentive, respectful, and kind. I've read some of the other reviews and one of them was sort of shocking, coming down on a brand new restaurant while it's in its soft opening is just not the energy Anchorage needs. I have been so excited to see new life being infused into downtown Anchorage. Having lived and traveled throughout the country I've always had access to Din Tai Fung or Doughzone so having something that is even remotely close is a huge win for me. Dining in should be an experience, it's not fast food, so there shouldnt be an expectation of crazy speed, anyway I digress but thus far Wei has been an experience that I have enjoyed. First items out of the kitchen were the garlic green beans and the shrimp fried rice. Both dishes looked beautiful in least in presentation. The shrimp fried rice was a bit bland and dry, but soy sauce fixed that. The garlic green beans were *chefs kiss* excellent. Next up was the sampler box and lobster scallion dish. The lobster is sooooo tender!! The sampler box has a great mix of appetizer dishes. My fav was the cucumber salad and the vegetable egg roll. The xiao long bao came up next a long with a complimentary vegan dumpling. The ginger had a nice ginger flavor and the wrapper was a little thicker than I was expecting. The vegan dumpling was so delicious and flavorful too! All in all this place is setting itself up to be a phenomenal place and I see myself coming here more and more!!

So happy to have a new spot! Dim Sum is my jam so happy to check it out! Love the window to watch them make stuff!! It reminds me of another amazing Dim Sum place. Food was good. They were very quick as well, which was nice because we didn't expect to stop for lunch and we had our kiddo. Staff was very friendly! This place absolutely has potential and I cannot wait to see it. Grow will be back again to add another review once we have dinner here. The pork dim sum was very good! I'm actually super jealous of the dinner menu after seeing some of the photos. It looks amazing next time we will absolutely be getting noodles.

Went here for dinner and it was AMAZING! Everything was clean, drinks were yummy and service was perfect. Cannot recommend this place more! My favorite was the spicy noodle salad, dumplings and shrimp fried rice!

Wonderful customer service and great food. We also enjoyed sitting by the window watching the dumpling maker. There were cool serving robots with the waiters. That was new for me!

The food was amazing, service was timely, genuine and attentive. Great ambiance and relaxing environment. Will definitely be back to try more menu items!

Unfortunately, phones did NOT eat first, but this was the remnants at the end of our evening!

I had the immense pleasure and treat to dine with Wei on night 1 of their soft opening week. We had a table of 5, were greeted promptly & warmly, and escorted through the BEAUTIFUL dining room to our table right away. Our server was the delightful and bubbly Phoebe. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and helped guide our experience the entire way, recommending sake/cocktail pairings and suggesting menu items that would complement other items we had ordered to share/try. We had the soup of the day (which was Hot&Sour, beautifully balanced and piping hot), chicken wings, vegan dumplings, lobster & scallion noodles, beef short ribs, bok choy, green beans (AN ABSOLUTE MUST TRY- think Din Tai Fung but BETTER), and a few different types of hot and cold sake. If we had room in our bellies to order more, we absolutely would have! We watched the GM, Chris, touch base with every single table in the restaurant, which further exemplified how much this entire staff CARES and wants their patrons to have the best possible time in their establishment. Everything was a total 10/10- from service, to environment, to the food itself and the speed at which everything was coursed/arrived at our table. I cannot speak highly enough about this KNOCKOUT of a new restaurant and dining experience for Anchorage. Do yourself a favor and go check it out for yourself!!!

Spicy tofu, Peking Duck, garlic bok choy

The Peking Duck was amazing. Came with divine hoisin sauce, wraps, cucumber and scallions. We Assembled a little duck dumpling at the table. Spicy tofu was flavorful with thick sauce and not too spicy. The bok choy was garlicky and tasty. Decor is classy and simple. The duck needs a 3-hour advance reservation.

A hidden gem worth the hunt!…read more Be careful with Google Maps. It might lead you into a small alleyway that's easy to miss. Keep your eyes peeled! Also, note that Dim Sum is weekend-only. The menu is concise but high quality. Since everything is made fresh, they do run out of items quickly, so get there early! Highlights for me, - Rice Noodle Rolls: Perfectly chewy and soak up the sauce beautifully. - Shu Mai: Classic, savory pork satisfaction. - Egg Tarts: Delicate and not overly sweet. This is a family-run spot that prioritizes tradition and warmth over flashy decor. It feels like a home-cooked meal.

We also got steamed bbq pork bun, Chinese pork sausage steam bun, Xiu Mai, and the red bean paste steak bun. If I came here again I might try some of the other main dishes you can get on the week day but I would definitely get the red bean paste bun and the pork belly bao buns. The meat portion is really two bites and you get two in an order. We also got egg tart for dessert. They were out of a few things including the seasame balls which we would have tried. It was pretty empty when we came, only one other table occupied. The outside kind of fools you because you just park wherever and they also share the building with other tenants. Overall the food was not disappointing, and especially so because you basically can't find this food anywhere else in town.

This place is truly an odd duck. They have two specialties and they couldn't be more different:…read more 1) Chinese food. 2) Big steaks. I've only ever gotten the steak. The steaks are very good and properly cooked. The salad that comes with the steak is one of the most pathetic things I've ever seen. It's a mountain of ice berg lettuce, dripped with white vinegar (not vinaigrette dressing, actual industrial vinegar), and augmented by 3 cherry tomatoes. So, I would HIGHLY recommend that you get the soup instead! For the other side, I subbed veggies, and it was absolutely worth the up charge! The veggies were fresh, crisp and NOT boringly steamed like so many other steak places. The interior is not fancy and beat down. If you want a "nice steak" come here. If you want a "nice restaurant" to eat it in, this is a tough one to recommend. I haven't had their Chinese food, so I can't comment, maybe next time.
