This place is an absolute joke! I cannot possibly express this further than what I'll say. We walked in with my family and mentioned we have a sesame seed allergy. The kind waiter informed us that most products were made with sesame seeds but they'd check with management to see what doesn't contain this allergen. They returned stating everything can be made without sesame seeds. We ordered some dumplings and fried rice. A few minutes later, the waiter had said everything we had ordered had sesame seeds and only the single dumpling can be consumed. I left a $20 for a $12 fried dumpling and ran out. This tip was left because the waiter did try to give us a heads up, but management assured us otherwise. My frustration stems from receiving false information, from management no less, for the sake of them generating business. Allergens are no joke!!! Especially while traveling!

I had reservations but there was still a short wait, which we kind of expected for Father's Day. As we were waiting, we noticed multiple people being turned away due to not having a reservation. When we were seated, there were quite a few empty tables. Even as we were leaving there were still empty tables. I figured it would be overcrowded because of the occasion. We were warned that the portions were larger and meant to be served family style and the food would come out as it was ready. The shredded chicken was not really shredded like I was picturing in my head, but small pieces. It wasn't dry at all considering how small it was sliced. The braised pork belly was a fairly large sized chunk. I feel like it was braised with Chinese five spice and star anise among other things. It was very tender. The vegetable chow mein was very flavorful and the noodles were perfectly cooked. The curry chicken xiao long bao was a little too spicy for me. I couldn't taste anything but heat. The braised short rib was served on top of green beans, onions, and carrots and a side or rice in a pot. It was fall off the bone tender. My favorite item was the clay pot rice with Chinese sausage. There was a slight sweetness to it and there were bits of crunchy rice at the bottom that was slightly caramelized with the sauce. About halfway through, we noticed there was a robot server. It kind of sneaks up on you. One of the servers crashed into it when they turned around. It might need a bell when it goes through the dining room. I hope the table the food was meant for didn't wait too long for a replacement. The interior was clean and cozy and there wasn't much noise echoing like many busy restaurants. Our server was lovely and very helpful. We will definitely be back.

Food was amazing and service was quick and tentative. Probably the best chicken fried rice i've ever had.

Wei is a great new addition to a troubled spot in downtown that has been vacant for...a while. I went today for lunch and I was pretty impressed! I ordered the braised beef noodle soup and it was flavorful and delicious. Space looks new and clean, a lot different than it looked as the previous business. I need to come back and check it out for dinner so I can try something from the dinner menu (and also get an adult beverage)!

My husband and I had the opportunity to visit Wei, a new Chinese restaurant in downtown Anchorage during their soft launch and so we lept at the opportunity. We made reservations for Wei and wound up there half an hour early. We sat at the bar for the vibes. We ordered the 9 grid sampler box, spicy cucumber salad, shrimp fried rice, green beans with garlic, lobster scallion noodles, and pork xiao long bao. I noticed a lot of similar favorite dishes that I would frequently order at Din Tai Fung, so I was very excited upon ordering. They even have a window where you can see the chef make the xiao long bao!!!! There is a LOT of seating at this restaurant! The chandelier at the entrance is beautiful, the under counter lighting at the bar is cool as well. I love how upscale everything looks. It's also cool how the have an order kiosk at the front for those that just want to place a Togo order to take home. Since we sat at the bar, the bartender Phoebe, served us, she was very attentive, respectful, and kind. I've read some of the other reviews and one of them was sort of shocking, coming down on a brand new restaurant while it's in its soft opening is just not the energy Anchorage needs. I have been so excited to see new life being infused into downtown Anchorage. Having lived and traveled throughout the country I've always had access to Din Tai Fung or Doughzone so having something that is even remotely close is a huge win for me. Dining in should be an experience, it's not fast food, so there shouldnt be an expectation of crazy speed, anyway I digress but thus far Wei has been an experience that I have enjoyed. First items out of the kitchen were the garlic green beans and the shrimp fried rice. Both dishes looked beautiful in least in presentation. The shrimp fried rice was a bit bland and dry, but soy sauce fixed that. The garlic green beans were *chefs kiss* excellent. Next up was the sampler box and lobster scallion dish. The lobster is sooooo tender!! The sampler box has a great mix of appetizer dishes. My fav was the cucumber salad and the vegetable egg roll. The xiao long bao came up next a long with a complimentary vegan dumpling. The ginger had a nice ginger flavor and the wrapper was a little thicker than I was expecting. The vegan dumpling was so delicious and flavorful too! All in all this place is setting itself up to be a phenomenal place and I see myself coming here more and more!!

So happy to have a new spot! Dim Sum is my jam so happy to check it out! Love the window to watch them make stuff!! It reminds me of another amazing Dim Sum place. Food was good. They were very quick as well, which was nice because we didn't expect to stop for lunch and we had our kiddo. Staff was very friendly! This place absolutely has potential and I cannot wait to see it. Grow will be back again to add another review once we have dinner here. The pork dim sum was very good! I'm actually super jealous of the dinner menu after seeing some of the photos. It looks amazing next time we will absolutely be getting noodles.

I was a little underwhelmed. Service was great. Loved the saki based drinks. I could go to Charlie's Bakery and be just as happy when I thought about the food. I love the decor, but wonder how long they'll be around.

Another great lunch menu item. Great to share.

I love the lunch menu. The options are flavorful, plenty and affordable. The decor is clean and modern. The service is great. I have had the same server each visit. His knowledge and assistance picking a great dish is on point. It's a great downtown restaurant.

    The lunch menu

The lunch menu is delicious. We had the pork and chives dumplings. So fresh and delicious. My husband had the Hainan chicken rice bowl which he loved. I had the tofu veggie noodle soup. The serving was so large that I made two meals out of it. The inside decor is so beautiful. They've really done an outstanding job remodeling the space. I highly recommend giving this place a try. Oh, and as mentioned in a previous review, the waiter, I wish I remembered his name, is outstanding. He is very attentive, nice and makes excellent recommendations.

Went here for dinner and it was AMAZING! Everything was clean, drinks were yummy and service was perfect. Cannot recommend this place more! My favorite was the spicy noodle salad, dumplings and shrimp fried rice!

Wonderful customer service and great food. We also enjoyed sitting by the window watching the dumpling maker. There were cool serving robots with the waiters. That was new for me!

As expected, the restaurant was crowded. After thirty minutes, it was hard to find an available table. Food is ordered at a counter, then a waiter takes it to the table. Portions were large. Fried rice tasted just right. It was piled high and I special ordered it without peas. It was prepared correctly. Five stars! Pot stickers were good. 4 stars. My wife had beef chow fun and that was five stars and the portion was large. Self serve soft drinks are available with unlimited refills. Strongly recommend this for anyone who likes good Chinese food. Our bill with tip was over $60. No sales tax in Anchorage.

Genuinely not sure how to rate this place. It was absolutely an unexpected find in a place I did…read morenot expect a Chinese bakery, let alone dim sum. For clarity: this rating is off the dim sum and dim sum-type dishes alone. Did not try the baked goods (aside from dan tat) or the rice plates/noodle plates, which seem to make up most of the menu. And the dim sum is... hit or miss. The bok choy is a generous portion, properly cooked, not the most interesting, but not bad. Spicy shrimp won tons are on the small side but tasty, although lacking in the umami that their better-known competitors (especially starting with a "D") begin with. Shu mai (shrimp or chicken, I got shrimp) were the most average/solid of the bunch, which to be fair, is entirely adequate. Har gow looked very pretty, but the skins were too thick, both skins and filling decidedly missing in flavor. The bean curd wrap was giant, super-sized vs. what you'd normally see, and while the bean curd wrap was on-point, the pork filling was pretty plain. This extended to the lo mai gai (sticky rice), which was ENORMOUS, like triple the size of what you'd see at normal dim sum, and similarly plain filling. To their credit, the quality of the stick rice itself was quite good, and the amount of filling was ample. Finally, the dan tat. Crust was a bit too crumbly and lacking in richness of the better ones, and the filling was oddly wrinkled, like it'd cooled too fast. However, the filling quality was good enough. They were busy when I walked in for dinner and were completely full a few minutes later, so much kudos to them-- they clearly are appreciated by the community, and it shows. Some diners at the table next to mine got the usual rice/noodle plates and many left quite full, so portions are good. Kitchen, as busy as they are, is both fast enough and a bit uneven. Short version: you're in Alaska, you can't expect what you get in 415 or 626. However, don't get too carried away either.

The steaks are very good and properly cooked. The salad that comes with the steak is one of the most pathetic things I've ever seen. It's a mountain of ice berg lettuce, dripped with white vinegar (not vinaigrette dressing, actual industrial vinegar), and augmented by 3 cherry tomatoes. So, I would HIGHLY recommend that you get the soup instead! For the other side, I subbed veggies, and it was absolutely worth the up charge! The veggies were fresh, crisp and NOT boringly steamed like so many other steak places. The interior is not fancy and beat down. If you want a "nice steak" come here. If you want a "nice restaurant" to eat it in, this is a tough one to recommend. I haven't had their Chinese food, so I can't comment, maybe next time.

She had a "hurried" state of mind but had a friendly smile. Good: 2.5 - 3 Stars With Three separate buffet stations for hot and cold items, it had "ok" selection. Nothing extraordinary. Basic limited sushi selection. They sure loved Philly cheese because I counted four different sushi version with it. Hey, it is easy to make, a great filler to the stomach, and is inexpensive. Great for the business but terrible if you want other sushi varieties. The other stations will have your other basic Asian dishes but nothing to say, "Yummy or Wow"! Again the Buffett is great if you want to fill your tummy and spend time with friends or family members. Price: 2.5 Stars We went on a Sunday, the price was a lot more than expected. Over $30-40 per person. Does that seem reasonable? Not in my book, but it has been a while since I've gone to a buffet. Only reasons we went because some of the other members enjoyed it and no one wanted to cook. Which sounds pretty reasonable to me.
