When is a Chinese restaurant not a Chinese restaurant? When the cook is South East Asian and his style is influenced by Vietnamese, Thai and Korean cuisines. Selections from all those cuisines are listed on the menu. My wife and I have eaten at Wei Asian Cafe many times over the last three years - frequently enough that the owner teases me about my doctor being on vacation whenever I order Tshingtao beer to go with our meal. We've found items on the menu that we really like and a few (very, very few) that we're not quite so fond of. The won-ton soup is great and there have been occasions that I've stopped by just to bring home a quart. Unlike many won-ton soups we've experienced over the years that are devoid of much other than a won-ton, a small piece of pork and a cut up scallion, the soup at Wei is loaded with goodies - pea pods, Chinese cabbage, carrot slices, sliced bamboo shoots and broccoli along with a couple won-tons in a flavorful broth. We also recommend the fried dumplings. On the down side, their egg rolls haven't met our expectations. If you're looking for an unpretentious place to have a reasonably priced meal with fresh ingredients and friendly service, Give Wei Asian Cafe a try. Portions are generous and we've always left feeling we got a great value for the money. A selection of beer and wine is available. As a foot note, the cafe was recently renovated - new paint job, table cloths and upholstery for the booths. They did a great job. read more

Coming from the bay area, where Chinese restaurants are a dime a dozen, its refreshing to see one of these establishments in the desert! Its your basic, better than panda, Combo #___, comes with steamed or white rice, hot n sour or egg drop soup, and an eggroll type of place for lunch. That's a +1, because I'm tired of place who have all their food pre-cooked under heat lamps... They also have a good dinner menu, which tastes great. All those chef specials, and even your basic, as I like to call it, "American-Chinese" food too. (Ie: your sweet and sour pork, broccoli beef, etc.) What makes them stand out too, is that they have Vietnamese dishes. The Bun Thit Nuong was on point, but something leaves to be desired for their Bun Bo Hue. Their pho is also decent, broth is flavorful. All in all, its a great average place. Can't go wrong. I really don't know where the other reviewers get "on the expensive side." ...... Come to Orange County... I'll show you that same dish marked up 50%. And the only way you're getting a Combo for under $8 is if its from Panda Express or some other fast-food rip off. read more

Sept 30, 2012 My cousin and extended family in Tucson are regulars here, their favorite go-to place for great Chinese food. We just had to try it! A group of about 15 of us went and they connected about 4 tables to fit us all. At one point we pretty much had the entire restaurant to ourselves, it seems they do a lot of take-outs. Food was very good, however I do believe we have just as good (if not better) Chinese restaurants in the LA area. Staff were friendly and attentive to all our requests. Honestly, my fiancé and I found this place very bland and mediocre, completely over hyped. We both got the dinner plate specials, which comes with entree of choice with sides of; fried shrimp, egg rolls as well as crap puffs. Oh ya, boring egg drop soup; my Pioneer Woman recipe tastes a thousand time better. We settled on sesame chicken and Mongolian beef. Won't be back, even though they offer delivery. My mom was the one who decided that our family had to try this restaurant. It has been up the street from my parents' house for a while now and we have yet to go. So when we walk in, there is only one guy manning the front of the house. If there was only dine-in only, this would have been fine since it was not busy. Unfortunately, he also had to contend with the take out orders, which were by far more plentiful than that the number of dine-in customers. In other words, we were forgotten more than once and not because of the server's fault. The food was basic, nothing was amazing, nothing was non-edible. The Egg Flower Soup and the Hot and Sour Soup both had good consistencies, but needed a lot more seasoning and balance. For appetizers we got the Crispy Shrimp and the Crab Puffs. The Crispy Shrimp's tempura batter was too thick which made it a very drab and heavy coating and there was not enough seasoning on it to help off set the texture. For the Crab Puffs, there was hardly any filling and yet again, no seasoning. The Sesame Beef was depressing, because the batter on it was so thick on such small pieces of beef, you could not taste the beef. I will say it was crispy though. The two dishes we did get that were fairly decent were the Lemon Chicken and the Shrimp Lo Mein. The Lemon Chicken were fried well with a nice crunch and seasoned very well. Then the Shrimp Lo Mein, again had good seasoning, they used a thicker noodle that held up to the dish well, though I will say the shrimp were a little overcooked. The main disappointment was that every dish was fairly small, especially in comparison to the price you needed to pay. If the flavor was up to par, I would be more OK with the price, but for what we got, it wasn't worth it. read more

I had to move back home from San Francisco to finally get a really great Chinese meal! I'm not joking, everything we have tried (and since they're so close, it's been a lot) is very fresh, very well cooked and tastes so delicious. We all ordered a shrimp plate and those shrimp just melted in your mouth, not over-cooked and rubbery. The beef in the Mongolian beef is also very tender and flavorful. Love this restaurant, it is family owned and everything is made fresh! It's perfect for lunch and you can also order delivery on those nights you're not in the mood to cook! Their pork fried rice is amazing! Among my favorites on a cold winter day is of course their pho (super fresh herbs, bean sprouts jalapeño and lime. Their war wonton soup, hot and sour soup, egg drop....well all of their soups are great. Their lunch specials give you plenty of food without breaking the bank. They also make Boba teas. Our favorite is the honeydew Boba. Or the Thai tea iced Boba. Their curry chicken is AMAZING, you can also order it extra spicy. We like their moogoo gai pan, their garlic chicken and any of their noodle bowls are awesome. Definitely recommend them if you are in the area. I've never actually been to the place myself, but I order delivery from them all the time. At least once a month usually. We really enjoy their vietnamese spring rolls, duck and Mi Fan. I love their beef curry. Unfortunately I have not been able to order over the phone or online from them in weeks. They're usually out go to for Christmas Eve. No one picked up the phone. My husband found this highly unusual as that is one of a Chinese food places busiest day of the year (his father owned one up in Canada). But no issue. Tried to call again recently to make an order. Nothing. Tried to do it online. Nothing. So I'm assuming they either closed down or are temporarily closed. *shrugs* All I know is if that's true, I'll miss them. I really enjoyed quite a few of their dishes. For now, I'll hunt down a new Chinese food place to order from. read more

Lacking in stylish decor, the food and the service here more than make up for the restaurant's faded, '80s look. The menu is enormous with Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese options. We got 3 different things and they were all delicious. The chefs were even willing to create an off-menu dish for us. Delicious, accommodating and not very expensive. I really don't know why we went here in the 1st place but it just was the only thing in the complex that was not fast food, it looked fine, until we walked in pretty drab which is most Asian food places. The waiter was more concerned about sitting and reading the paper than he was about serving food. I can kind of understand his concern or lack there of. The food while edible was about as good as a can of Chung King that has been on my parents pantry shelf since the age of Disco (the early 80's for those of you too young to know). You have to rate a place based on what it is, and this is a hole-in-the-wall pan-Asian east-side dive -- and for what it is, it's pretty good. Not quite 4 stars, but not 3. Three and a half would've been a better fit. The bump up to 4 stars was based on our love of their Hot Jalapeño Chicken Wings. Now don't go there expecting bright orange wings glistening in sauce, accompanied by carrot and celery sticks, with ranch dressing on the side. These are different and employ a Tucson favorite, the jalapeño. The dish is basically little hunks of fried chicken topped with minced jalapeños and some other tiny pepper that looks like a chile pequin---awesome. My husband usually gets the twiced cooked BBQ pork (not the regular pork, the BBQ one -- we got the wrong one once and it wasn't as good) and I look for something with broccoli in it. I haven't found anything I like enough to order it twice. But I like the appetizer enough to keep coming back to try again. Other Notes of Interest: "Asian" in the title because they serve Vietnamese, Thai, Korean, Japanese and Chinese food. We've only had the Thai and Chinese. The iced tea tastes funky--so if you're an iced tea freak, this may ruin the whole thing for you. "Chips & Salsa"--when you first arrive you get a bowl of fried wonton strips with plum sauce. Avoid this. They serve brown rice (in addition to white) to bring down the glycemic index of your meal. Lots of regulars stop by for take out. They deliver. read more

I've been ordering from these guys for a long time, and basically always get the same thing. Due to health issues, I'm very specific when I order. I cannot eat beef. Tonight they delivered the wrong food, including beef. When I called to let them know, they argued with me over and over again, telling me I was wrong, and did not specify chicken...pretty much calling me a liar. I am not. I liked their food, but they were completely horrible to talk to...extremely shortsighted. I mean, I spend $50 a week there, and they decided to piss that away. I hope the nice people that deliver their food find good jobs elsewhere, but you will go out of business in two years if you don't get your act together. I'm certainly done with you. read more

This is has been my go-to spot for take out since moving here a year ago. My cousin recommended it to me within the first few days I was in town and thank god for that. We've eaten in a lot (try the lunch special...it's cheap & plentiful!) but lately we've been ordering & having it delivered. They should change the name to the Speedy Diner...we usually get our order in 30 minutes or less. The guy that answered was so sweet I didn't realize it was 15 minutes till closing but they still took my order and the young man delivered it on his way home. We had 10 in our group for dinner on 7/14. Everyone ordered different items from a huge selection from a large 6 page menu!!! Unless you are a real oriental connoisseur and know you Asian foods, it is pretty hard to make a decision - thank God for "Combination Plates" - makes the guess work a lot easier!!! I chose A-4, I can't recall exactly what was included but I can say it was delish! I ordered a side Won Ton Soup for the extra 50 cents, it was very full of vegies, etc. but was a bit too salty. I did have others mention that their food was saltier than they like. They say they are MSG free in their foods? The serve staff and chefs are very accommodating and helpful. The facility is very clean and neat. It is located right next to the Safeway in the shopping complex on Golf Links and south west corner of Harrison. Amazing Asian cuisine with a wonderful staff of friendly personalities. The appetizers were super fresh and crispy. The hot mustard was great. The main dishes came out prepared perfect and very warm. I've gone here twice and had a terrible experience both times. The first time, I specifically asked if a menu item would come with battered shrimp. I was told no, but when I was eating it I found thank it was very indeed battered. My dinner was totally ruined when I could have just ordered something else if I had been told how the dish would come. Today I ran in quickly because I was thirsty after grocery shopping. I was able to quickly order a boba tea, but the man who took my order didn't know the price so if have to wait to pay when he brought it to me. (At that time I had the menu open showing the prices.) Finally after waiting there for nearly 10 minutes waiting for my drink, they brought it to me without any boba. By this point, I really had to get going due to the wicked warming groceries in my car, so I certainly couldn't wait another 10 minutes for a redo. I paid and was offered no discount for waiting 10 minutes for a drink I didn't even order. I will never be back again. read more
