I have been a Wegmans fan for 20 years. But they are going downhill. The cost of the prepared foods is getting really expensive, nearly restaurant prices for a single serving dish. The new next-generation ownership has shopping consultants telling them to always move stuff around the store in an effort to boost sales. The most annoying thing is that more and more national brands are being taken off their shelves for Wegmans brand products. Usually, Wegmans brands have been nearly as good as what was replaced, but some clearly are not. Wegmans took away the Iron Chef brand of Chinese food sauces in favor of their brand, but their own brand are not nearly as good. Big names like Gulden's Mustard are carried in very limited quantity, placed at floor level, so they are hard to see. Although they are well known for carrying sushi, in honesty the sushi is pretty bad. The fish is nice & fresh, but the rice isn't "sticky"; it's like minute rice, little hard, cold individual grains that fall apart when you bite into it. Same thing with their prepared meals. All the rice based dishes have rice that you need to add some liquid to before you cook it, or else it has no taste. You can't buy Oscar Mayer bacon! They only carry their own store brand. They took out Wonderful brand Pistachios for a cheaper (to them) version that tastes poor. Most of their dried fruit is old. The don't bake donut holes in-store anymore, and carry some cheap brand that tastes full of preservatives. I could go on, but you get the picture. Still a pleasant store to shop in, but I get twice as much food for the same price at other groceries, like Green Hills or Price Chopper. read more

When you really think about it, what is so great about Wegmans? Good prices on milk and their fruits and vegetables are above average. Meats and poultry are below average at best. The bakery is so-so. Many of the products purchased in the past are no longer available and are now being substituted by the subpar "Wegmans" brand. Their pizza is horrendous. Let me start off by saying I have lived in Syracuse for the 21 years I've been alive and absolutely love Wegmans. That being said, I've been noticing things that disappoint me. For the past year I've been a vegetarian for health reasons and have enjoyed looking for vegetarian-friendly meals. For example, I've fallen in love with the veggie egg rolls at Wegmans and frequently buy them. A few weeks ago I got 3 egg rolls for my dinner from the hot bar. When I get home I bite into the first one and the distinct taste of shrimp fills my mouth. I spit it out in disgust not because I don't like shrimp but I am choosing not to eat meat. I cautiously bite the other two and they were fine. Thankfully I'm not allergic but what if I had been? I assumed it was a small mistake by an employee or even a fellow customer. No big deal. However, the last time(last week) I got egg rolls from the hot bar, I bit in and it was pork! I bit the other two and they were pork as well! And I would bet money on it that the ones back at the store were pork being advertised as veggie. So I was left with nothing to eat. Employees need to start paying more attention to what they put in the hot bar. Especially something like egg rolls that can't immediately be identified. Imagine if someone who doesn't eat pork because of their religion had consumed these? It's obvious many employed here don't care about their job. It's rare to meet a cashier who actually greets you and smiles when it should be the other way around. read more

My medication that I need costs$100.00 and I went to pick it up at Wegmans pharmacy In Fairmount. We use a HSA card but it was not honored here today as it has been multiple times at the Auburn store and other doctors offices. My fiancé works out of town and the HSA card is in his name and we only have one card and are only able to have the one card. In the recent past. I have taken a picture of our card and it has worked fine at other Wegmans , Urgent Care and Doctor s offices multiple times. He travels with the card and is out of town working currently. In addition. Currently at the moment money is very tight and I do not have extra money. I was so upset the pharmacist came over and told me that they had recently changed there policy and they do not accept these cards to have a card number entered manually. I had to pay for it with my debit card. I asked to speak to the manager. And he then proceeded to tell me that all I need to do is to submit my receipt to our HSA account. Which is not how it works for us as my fiancé owns a business and has a set amount. This is not good business. I was pushed off by a manager who didn't seem to know the policy and said he would take my name and number and get back to me. So upset. Kinney's and other Wegmans have honored it many times at Auburn store and other medical offices. What if I did not have the money and couldn't get my medicine. Such a hassle why would anyone who has a HSA account not be able to use it. In today's world with all other stuff going on. You should be able to get your medicine with a HSA card of all things. I even suggested that my fiancé call and give the number and authorization over the phone but they would not. The manager was sooooo pushing me off instructing me of what I needed to do next to get my money back. Not only does this manager not know the policy. He does not know how our HSA system works. I know that this is bad business and I am not a happy customer. I do not need to be hassled by a pharmacy who can't deal with entering a card number into a register for payment and making this customers life harder by needing to give her last dollars for medicine she needs. College kids who don't have health insurance cards and need to go to the doctor and get there medicine do this all the time by presenting a card on their phone. Wegmans you can do better. I wanted to order flowers for my two sisters who were staying at the Embassy Suites for the memorial service for my brother, Dave Madison. "Ana" suggested that if I wanted the best arrangement in my price range, I should order what I wanted and make a note to be picked up the next day after 1 PM. Lucky for me, the concierge at the Embassy Suites agreed to take the shuttle and put the flowers with notes in my sisters rooms before they arrived from CA and FL. They both raved about how beautiful the arrangements were and how it brightened their day on a snowy, cold and sad Friday night. Kudos to the florist shop at Wegmans for hiring a great staff and making people's lives a little happier. You are the best, Ana!! read more

The prices have been going up a lot on some items. This store almost sells nothing but Wegmans brand and I don't really like Wegmans brand sell some more national brands. The store is always changing the layout they charge the layout at least two times a month. Not small layout changes but big ones keep the lay layout the SAME. Because of all of this I gave two stars and go to this store less often. read more

I go to the Wegman ' s off James st. to get their subs. I go usually in the evening and usually 2 people in dept working, I don't understand how there can b a line and only one making food and other cleaning. Frustrating...how long does it take for the one cleaning to stop cleaning and make some subs or wraps to get rid of the line. Then go back to cleaning. It's like the just don't care!!! read more

This Wegmans at night is really not the best. Security should walk the store. Last night kids were throwing a ball. Almost hit me and they laughed. Fruit has been rotting quickly. Love Wegmans but this store needs more looking into at night. Shelves aren't stocked and it's impossible to reach items. I have never heard of Wegmans, but this past trip upstate we were in seasrch of some Goya products, and after searthing allllll over we finally ended up at Wegmans. We were greeted with samples...the fastes way to my heart!...and really everything was fresh in the store, and since it was St. Patrick's Day we even got some great samples of corned beef and cabbage, and some great recipes. I think that the prices were a tad higher than the other supermarkets in the area, but well worth it. They have everything here, even all your SU apparel! Next time were upstate Wegmans is for sure going to me my first stop shop for anything! read more

Love the Fairmount location. Neat and clean always. Easy to find items and great produce. Over night cashier Sue is amazing. So happy cheerful and always going the extra mile. Possibly one of my favorite Wegmans. It is always clean, the patrons & staff are always nice, & in the Spring/Summer it is a gorgeous place to eat lunch outside. You almost feel like you're at a real restaurant. read more

I've been shopping at Wegman's (in Syracuse) since the early 80s when they had their store on Pond Street. Since then, it seems to have evolved into something less than it was before. Their prices on some item are astronomical - 20 dollars for a takeout blue king crab cocktail at the Dewitt store? 24.99/lb for tenderloin at the Fairmount store? An individual dessert costing five dollars that doesn't even taste very good? They seem to keep their price point at exactly as high as possible knowing there is no competition in Syracuse. If Whole Foods ever makes it here, Wegmans is in for a major surprise. The customer service in Wegmans is the best and I have met and talked to many hard working, super nice people while shopping there. However, since the entire canned food section now seems to be filled 80% with the Wegman's brand only and you go in for a few items and then the total at the register is sixty bucks, I do not see how they can sustain their growth, especially as food prices rise and continue to rise at a rate we have never seen before in our lifetimes. read more

Had a meeting in Syracuse and tried to get dinner there. Picked up a sandwich and then threw it out two bites in. it was horrible.

This really is the only way to shop. The selection is great. The employees are friendly and helpful. I also go here often for dinner and am rarely let down. read more
