Excellent selection of produce, groceries, organic options and healthy alternatives. Besides the grocery market they have a huge hot and cold food bar, sub shop, pizza, bakery, sushi bar, and drink cafe. I'm a tried and true Trader Joe's gal, and Wegmans is as close as I'm going to get to them. Wegmans actually reminds me more of the baby that Trader Joe's and Whole Foods would have if they shacked up together. It's as large as any Whole Foods I've ever been to, complete with a cafeteria-like section where you can sit down and eat foods that their chefs prepare, a bakery, a whole slew of cheeses to choose from, and even an organic foods section. But they're definitely not as expensive as Whole Foods (this is where the Trader Joe's in them shines through), and oftentimes they have items that are cheaper than the other supermarkets and even Walmart. read more

Easily the best grocery store in State College. Always clean, the staff are friendly and super helpful, the bakery and meat departments are fantastic, and they have plenty of options for everything. Their ready made cafe food is pretty good, their prices are average (become a member, you'll save a LOT), and I almost always find the obscure products I'm looking for. read more

I've been living in State College for 3 years and have been consistently shopping at Wegmans. Their prices are not higher than Giant and Weis for the items that I buy. The prices are higher than Wal-Mart but the quality is also much better. The staff here is always friendly and the store is always clean. They have a great selection of fresh produce and the sushi is excellent. Con: The parking lot is a bit confusing. The front near the entrance seems to be congested at times....but that's not the store's fault. read more

I'm normally too thrifty to shop at high end grocery stores like this. I just moved from Chicago and I was so sick of all the small and expensive grocery stores (whole foods, trader joes, etc). But too many people told me to go to Wegmans for me to resist. This is a pretty special grocery store. It's really, really large and there is so much selection. So many exotic foods. And everything really is a notch up, from the breads to the produce. Also the meat and seafood. For the most part, the prices don't look higher than they would be at a normal grocery store, but the quantities are typically smaller. If you are single and have plenty of money this is the perfect place to shop. I get a little annoyed with paying more and don't do the bulk of my shopping here. But there are certain items that really are special here. For example, ice cream sandwiches. You wouldn't think there's enough variety in ice cream sandwiches that it would matter where you get them. But you'd be wrong in thinking that. The ones from Wegman's actually have crunchy cooky on the outside and when you bite into them there's an explosion of flavor. On the other hand, if you leave them in the freezer for a couple of weeks, they become very ordinary. They are just fresher. Who new it would matter? They also have a room with tons of candy you can dish up. Way more variety than I'm used to and it's really good. Some of it can be old, but for example if you like really chewy gummy worms, you might be in for a pleasant surprise. The carts are small and actually in good condition, so you can manage them down the aisle and the wheels don't try and take you off in random direction. Nice touch. There are downsides, though, besides shopping with a bunch of rich snobby people. The store has lots of fresh stuff, but if something is out of season, forget about it. I asked where the peaches are in winter one time and the associate looked at me like I had just spit on their floor. Of course there are no peaches. They are not in season. Duh. I guess the fact that all the other grocery stores in town have peaches year round had me confused. Overall it's a great place to shop. Sometimes I avoid it just because I don't like rich people but the food really is better there in some cases and the selection is unusually good. If you are comfortable with the croud there and don't mind paying a little more, it's a great place to shop. That's particularly true if you shop for small quantities at a time (i.e., you don't have a bunch of kids). read more

Wegmans is very close to my neighborhood; go to this store 1-4 times a week, like the new renovations and appreciate that you actually have the room to walk in the isles, having to re-learn where everything was interesting but if you have patience and just look it is not hard to find what you need, plus the signs above the isles that tell you what they have in them; (I am not sure people realize to look up and read other than stand around and complain). Greatly appreciate the friendly employees and courteous service. Weakness: Need to improve check out situation; sometimes there are not enough cashiers or cashiers who are nice but take way too long checking people out. (Just to clarify; I am not including trainees) So, I was a little disappointed to see no automated registers installed for small orders. Also, NOT happy at all about the tea section, I drink tea everyday. One of the perks shopping at this store was because you had a fabulous tea section......perk gone. Your baked goods section is perfect for specialty items and fresh bread, rolls but pre-made cakes and pies are seriously over priced, I mean come on. Pie dough; flour, ice water, crisco, maybe some lemon juice or nutmeg, bag of good quality apples, peaches maybe up to 4-5 dollars at most so how can an apple pie cost 14.00-16.00 dollars?? read more

Wegman's is an alright, if pretentious, grocery store that does a good job of distinguishing itself from the other food purchasing options in State College. It's nowhere near what is available in a larger city, but, then again, State College isn't a larger city. So, why the bad rating? This grocery store has, twice, in the last six months sold me rotten chicken thighs. Additionally, I recently purchased moldy feta cheese. In each case, the staff was more than helpful in giving me a refund, but it seems that something as basic as safe meat and fresh cheese (esp. at a grocery store whose cheese section is so prominent) shouldn't elude a store that imagines itself to be an elite place for the discerning consumer. read more

Great selection. Greater Frustration. As many others have said this is the 'best' grocery store in town, at least as far as selection is concerned. Unfortunately, this wide selection and a poor store layout combine to make it one of the worst places to actually shop. If you can shop at non-peak times (i.e. in the middle of the day on a weekday, and sometimes not even then) then you can have a pleasant experience here. If, however, you are on the same shopping schedule as the majority of people prepare for frustration. The store has only one main entrance/exit, so just entering when it's busy involves dodging carts left and right. You are then faced with a produce section with a deliberately maze-like layout, since convolution is just what this place needs. I've heard other supermarkets advertise their 'wide aisles' and always thought that seemed like a rather lame thing to brag about...until I came here and saw how the narrow aisles interact with a clientele overcome with choice to form grocery-gridlock. I am often disappointed by the ready made food section as well. There's often no one manning the burrito bar, and the prices of the steam table offerings have continued to rise to the point of being outrageous. The seating area often has several people working on school projects, which wouldn't be bad at all if they were any kind of considerate during peak hours. I think this store could be much better with just a few simple changes, but as things have only gotten worse here in the five years I've been in State College I'm not holding my breath for improvements anytime soon. read more

I NEVER write reviews but today I was humiliated in line and honestly I'm mortified. I was buying a bottle of wine and a six pack of beer for a relaxing weekend in the nicer weather. I went in by myself but was on the phone (which I guess is where the confusion was). When I showed them my ID there was another woman (not my cashier, I believe it was a manager of some sorts) that insisted I get my friends up to show them their IDs as well. I explained that I came in alone and they simply would not accept that. She kept repeating to me that I NEEDED to get my friends to show their IDs. Let me remind you, there were no friends. I came in completely alone. I felt like I was being accused of buying alcohol for minors or something. People were staring and it was so embarrassing. I work in the food and liquor industry, I understand the laws. What I don't appreciate was the tone used and misbelief of everything I was saying. I finally sold my point because I was not lying but I was truly so humiliated by the experience I cried in my car all the way home. There needs to be a better system in place or something so that customers don't feel like this again. I'm only giving two stars because I actually really love Wegmans and shop there often so one star would not be fair. Just beware, if you're going in to buy alcohol, make sure no one else is within ten feet of you or you will be accused of being with them. I felt terrible for the cashier because she was only doing what the other woman told her and I could tell this was just as stressful for her as it was for me. It may take some restraint, but I will never shop there again. read more

Wegman's was a delight to shop in, the vegetables were fresh and enticing, the selection was marvelous, so far I have never wanted something and not found it at Wegman's. I wanted to make a particular recipe, the cook came out and gave me tips and found the particular ingredient that I was looking for. I wanted some Portuguese rolls ,they didn't have them, the baker made them for me while I shopped. It doesn't get better then this! It is a little pricey, but worth it due to the good quality of merchandise and service. read more

It has seriously gone down hill. I loved this store when it first opened. It had a great selection of tea, a wonderful bakery, the prepared food section was amazing. Now, the store did a renovation, and it looks like Sam's Club...yuck....and...the tea selection has been reduced, the bakery is not as good, the cakes and frosting has suffered greatly, a lot of the selections are open and can be touched by anyone...very unappealing......and the prepared food section is usually visited by a lot of flies. read more

I like this store because it has quality food to choose from that is endless. Not only can you make something yourself you can also buy all ready prepared food. The downside is that they are always busy. My only complaint is that the customers are always in a hurry and can be rude at times. I know this is not Wegman's fault at all, but I can go in the store in a good mood and come out with an attitude :( which makes me dred shopping. read more

Wegmans is my go-to grocery store each week. While a lot of people praise Wegmans' gourmet selections, I actually continue to go because they consistently have better prices than Weis, Giant, or Walmart on just about everything that I buy, and the Wegmans brand items are very reliable. Often, I am afraid to buy the store's brand but this is not the case at Wegmans - their sauces, salsas, chips, pasta, boxed mac & cheese, yogurt, frozen meals, salad dressings, the list goes on - everything Wegmans brand that I've tried has been great. I'm on a tight budget, and have definitely shopped around to find the best prices, and although many people will try and say that Weis or Giant has better prices, Wegmans has always had the things I buy (1.99/lb chicken breasts and ground beef is a big one for me in particular, as well as their freezer section foods and lots of their produce) cheaper than anywhere else. Wegmans doesn't really have sales, but they have more of a low-price all the time policy it seems. I can find everything I need at Wegmans. read more

We just moved closer to wegmans and I thought we should check it out. I actually LOVE their 'wegmans brand' products but their store is super confusing. We've went 3 times now and I'm still struggling finding things (the aisles just don't make sense). Granted, I'm sure the more I go the better it will be. The only major negative is that it's always super packed and your basically getting run over by other shoppers. Prices aren't as high as I assumed though. read more

The guy at the butcher counter, appearing to be about 60 or more, purposely ignored the Chinese woman, twice. After asking to be waited on and ignored twice she went to another employee who got someone to wait on her. Mr. bigot went to cut more meat never acknowledging the woman. read more

I'm a regular customer for the Café lunch. The recent changes may be more cost effective, but not customer friendly. No more napkins at the table and the unwrapped plastic ware comes from a dispenser. The sign says one at a time but the are usually at least two laying in the discharge. I don't want to use plastic ware that has been fingered by someone while they picked up one, or plastic ware that dispenses into a access port handled by hundreds of customers. Does everyone wash before reaching into the dispenser slot? read more

Thumbs up to the bakery department at Wegman's! I ordered my son's baptism cake and it was phenomenal! The woman who took my order was very nice and took the time to show me all my choices from the colors to the icing designs. She made a beautiful cross on the top of the cake. I like Wegmans for being clean. It's no Fairway Market or Whole Foods, but good for being in farm country nowheresville. I was in the deli the other week, and about 4 people including me, waited for a employee to wait on us. There were 5 people behind the counter, and one young guy, was pricing something on the scale, made no eye contact nor told the other 4 people that customers are waiting. The three women were chatting away about their weekend. Finally, a customer standing next to me yelled, "excuse me! Are you going to help us?" So all 5 turned around, and a young women turned around, long blonde ponytail said " hi what can I help you with" with such fakery. No Then slowly all of the them were waiting on us. I found out that the young woman with the blonde ponytail was the manager. I was shocked. What kind if manager speaks to her employees about her weekend as they are slicing meat & cheese?!? Another customer being waited on, asked about a product, that was no longer in the case, she said gave a lame excuse, " it has to do with customs, not me" that was her response!!!! I about died. She has no regard for her employees safety, sustainability or the store's product. Who made her manager? She has no regard for the customers who, like me, waited about 5 mins to be helped. read more
