Wegmans and I have a love/ hate relationship. I love going but my wallet hates the amount I spend. They truly draw you in with the aromas, samples, and friendly staff. I have been a long time Wegmans fan. Over 10 years and I have failed to write a review. I suppose the time is now. Why I like them: they are close to where I work and they have a great selection of organic foods. In fact, I rarely leave the produce, bakery, deli, and organic food areas. It might be my attempt to skip the wine area because it begs for me to find a new selection and I feel like I am betraying TJ's.
Wegmans can be very overwhelming for those new to the store. Pace yourself and make sure you allotted yourself plenty of time to shop. Patience is vital. People are can be rude and the large shopping carts are cumbersome. Stick with the smaller cart unless you plan on stocking up. You will find some unique items and it can quickly add up. The bakery is expensive for cookies and cakes. I think the sugar cookies are good but warning, it's sugar overload with the a lot of icing! I love their pizza! Grab a slice because it's amazing. Also the sushi is good. It's slightly less for me to get the caterpillar roll here than my fave sushi place. I like both equally. They do switch up the rolls and I like the new volcano selections. Skip the Chinese food. It's bland. I never buy from the food bar. I am completely repulsed by other shoppers who pick or dig through the food items. I am glad Wegmans always has staff nearby to monitor. One day I watched a lady use a plastic fork to sample food. She tried three things using the fork to pick her selections and eat off of. Another shopper said something to her and she snarled back that she wasn't paying unless she tasted the food first. Ugh! Hence my earlier comment. The sit down bar is great for a nice bite to eat. I used to eat here twice a month because I loved the fresh food selection and new wine pairings. I tried many fabulous dishes here. While the setting is not ideal, it can be if you like people watching. I enjoy watching the chefs cook my meal. I also enjoy meeting new people and the quaint setting allows you the chance to converse with others. No tipping is allowed. Let's move to the frustrations. I find people are very aggressive with their carts. At times I feel I am playing bumper cars as my cart is rammed by others. I found abandoning my cart to enter an aisle offers nothing. People won't move for you even with, "excuse me." The cart is actually my shield and provides me a great chance of being recognized. Otherwise, I was forced to move their cart or put my body in the place I need because, "ain't nobody got time for that." I don't consider myself a rude person, but if you hog the aisle or plant yourself in an area for an excessive amount time while looking for your phone or coupon, I will say excuse me because I am ready to get my tasty food home to eat.
Just remember to go in full or grab some food before you start shopping. Otherwise get that big cart because you will find lots of tempting items. read more
