We have heard so much about Wegmans and decided to see for ourselves what the hype is about. Your first impression is prepared foods. As my husband and I walked around we noticed 3 little children picking up things, touching, smelling them and then placing them BACK IN THE PREPARED AREA !!!! OMG. I was floored. We checked out the salads which looked old, yellowed and definitely not edible. Have people gotten that lazy that hygiene does not matter. I bought quite a lot of cheese on my (first ever) visit to the Chestnut Hill Wegmans today, and found that most of it was completely sour and bad. I tried to email Wegmans themselves, but found that you can't make a comment without creating an account (ycch), so I'm just going ahead and posting here. Bad cheese. Don't buy it. Wegman's is awesome and this location is great, the food is amazing and there is always an insane selection of items at really decent prices. However, I have taken away three stars due to the way I was treated in the liquor store portion of Wegman's which is separate. My sister, her bf and I were walking around looking at different liquor and deciding what to buy. Once we had figured it out, my sister and her bf went downstairs to the grocery store to get a jumpstart on that while I bought the liquor. Mind you, we are all well over the age of 21, with me being the oldest at 25. When I go to check out, the manager or whoever the white haired ahole at the front is asked me where my friends (meaning my sister and her bf) were in a very curt tone. I said they went downstairs to get groceries and he said he couldn't check me out without seeing all of their ids. Totally fair, this is the law, I get it. I called them to come back up where he proceeded to take us all out of line and rip the alcohol out of my hands like I was some sort of criminal. He scanned each of our ID's which all went through except for mine because it was slightly bent. He immediately hands them all back saying he can't sell to us because my ID won't go through even though I am a heavily bearded and very obviously over the age of 21 man. He gave us severe attitude and told us we had to leave immediately and were no longer welcome in the store. I was furious and simply took my ID back and left the store. How is there not a way to punch in my ID number to the machine? Call the government and have them verify it like every other liquor store in the world can do. I absolutely couldn't believe how we were treated and thrown out when each and every one of us was of legal age and had plenty of identification. Its not like we were buying wine coolers and bud light. I was about to drop well over 100 dollars on alcohol and now they have lost my business forever. Essentially, just letting you know that be sure everyone has their ID's with them if you are purchasing alcohol, and also bring your passport because they won't even take the time to make sure your ID is authentic without throwing you out of the store. read more

Good selection of pre cooked foods and buffets (including a cookie buffet). The rest of the store is seriously lacking. The ordination of foods is a mess. Every aisle is so random and I walk around forever trying to find something until I just give up. They have so many employees and they are usually just standing around talking to one another and not help the people who clearly look lost. Most everything is wegmans brand and there is a small selection. I'd rather shop at many other stores before this one. read more

Great store! I just wish for more selection in the Bakery dept., but everything else is amazing and the prices are great! I can now buy organic food at low prices, not a rip-off like Wholefoods. Not only that, the prepared section and baked goods (pastries/cakes) at Wholefoods don't taste that good to me, but at Wegman's, everything I have tried so far has been delicious: New England Clam Chowder (one of the best ones around), Buffalo Chicken Chowder, sandwiches (the cold cuts and the rest of the ingredients are of great quality and they don't skimp), pulled pork, cheesecake, chocolate mousse (can't remember the exact name, but it had 3 different layers: dark brown, light brown and white, organic bread, cheese bread. Their hummus (tried plain and red pepper) is dilicious and it can be purchased in a huge 32 oz. tub (in addition to the other various sizes). Their produce is very well priced, especially the organic section, and they also carry some exotic fruits/vegetables. Also I just have to point out their quality because everything I bought so far has outlasted anything I ever bought at all the other supermarkets - their family pack of little seedless cucumbers lasted almost 2 weeks, when Stop & Shop's pack dies after about 4 days; I am on day 7 of family pack regular-sized seedless cucumbers and they still look as good as the first day I got them; their organic strawberries lasted 5 days, when Stop & Shop's go bad in 2-3. Their cheese section looks amazing and I have had their goat cheese and Manchego cheese so far (so good!). Other departments that have really impressed me are their seafood: feels like a real seafood market, with whole fish laying on ice, which makes your mouth water. The Charcuterie is also incredible. Overall, great experience - the staff are very friendly in every department. My first visit, I was putting the bags in my car and one of Wegman's employees offered to help me load it (I haven't experienced this in years). In the last month, I have been there three times!! Meh. It's just a really big, conventional grocery store - Shaw's on steroids. I don't think it's anything special (except the model train suspended from the ceiling - I did like that). I love Wegmans. They always have exactly what I need, and moreso! The employees are always extremely friendly and helpful. I've only been to the locations in Chestnut Hill and Northboro, but I recommend Wegmans to literally everyone. I have to say the location in Northboro has more, but both stores are amply stocked. And, their dark roast Kcups are not only cheap but make a delicious cup of coffee. read more

I had been led to believe that Wegmans is the greatest grocery store ever and had revolutionized the industry. Maybe my expectations were too high. Good selection but far from mind blowing. The prices were average to a little high unless you buy the Wegmans brand. But every store sells their own brands cheaper than the name brand stuff so no points there. The liquor department/store was the bright spot on prices but I'm not traveling on rt 9 for a few bucks on wine, besides there's plenty of great liquor stores, but no great grocery stores in the area.It's just another store. I've been a Stop and Shopper most of my life. However, I'm willing to give Wegmans a go and see what the experience is like over time. Today was my first trip. My overall impression is that the selection is great (unless you're really picky) and generally priced below what I see at Stop and Shop.The layout took some getting used to, but I didn't feel lost. It's a small enough store that you can easily circle back if you miss something. The only bad part about the experience is the customers: they're terribly rude. The only thing is my fiancé doesn't like how the deli has the meats already cut up, he said they tend to be a little dry. Came here to buy groceries and had my friend along with me. Everything was fine until we both went upstairs so I could purchase alcohol for a birthday party I was heading to later that day. I brought the 6 pack up to the counter and upon reaching the counter was informed that since my friend is under 21, I, who turned 21 a while ago, was refused service and was told I couldn't purchase alcohol. This is not only ridiculous but also slightly embarrassing because it makes me look bad. Didn't help that the lady at the checkout was rude and very unfriendly to me. Clearly should have read the reviews on here seeing as multiple people have encountered the same problem that I did. read more

Just got off the phone with the night manager and had a very poor customer service experience. Bought some mangos and was surprised to find that the mangos that I bought were $3 each upon checking the receipt the next day. The sign said $3.5 for 3. The night manager did not refund suggesting that the pricing was correct and that I was wrong. I know what I saw and the signage was incorrect and confusing. After having spent thousands of dollars at wegmans, I would expect the manager to honor the customer. Instead, wegmans has lost my loyalty. read more

Terribly disappointing service. The cashiers are all extremely slow and it's the store policy to NOT have people helping the cashiers - and CUSTOMERS - bagging groceries. I asked the customer service manager and he confirmed they do not have baggers. He said they pay the cashiers "a little bit more" so that they would bag the groceries. He even said now they are slower because they have to use paper bags since the city just banned plastic bags. I replied that doesn't help your customers get out any faster. I find this level of service unacceptable. Good selection of food but who wants to be in the checkout line for 20 minutes +! Why can't they hire people to get their customers out the door faster? Makes me think they don't actually care how long you are in line. read more

Today I visited the new Wegman's in Chestnut Hill. Overall, I was disappointed. If you want prepared foods or don't know how to cut up vegetables, then this is a great place. If you cook and need everyday groceries, then there is no need to make a special trip. One needs a map to find canned goods, beverages and frozen foods. As for prices, they are better than Whole Foods, but it doesn't take much to beat them. I will probably go back to have lunch, but as for shopping, I'll stay closer to home. read more

The few times I have tried to shop I end up walking out with nothing because I am frustrated. It truly pains me to give this Wegmans less than a five star rating.I LOVE Wegmans. I am originally from Central NY and have been waiting patiently for 12 years for a Wegmans to open within some sort of reasonable driving distance from my home in Boston. So when this Wegmans opened I was nothing short of ecstatic. Unfortunately, upon visiting it, and finding a lack of bulk food options (WHERE are my gummy grapefruit?!?!) regular sub shop rolls and this awesome salad they have at the other stores that is not available here :(, I walked out with a feeling of disappointment. Okay, I understand, beggars can't be choosers and I will definitely come back if for nothing else for a sense of nostalgia, but if I'm being honest part of me feels like if you couldn't do the full on Wegmans amazingness, you probably shouldn't have done it at all. I believe this to be particularly true because it also makes me sad to hear people talking sh*t about Weggies, and at the Chestnut Hill location, I almost can't blame them. On a happy note they have incredibly cheap wine here that definitely gives Trader Joe's a run for their money. read more

Wegman's goes beyond for service, selection, cleanliness, price, etc., etc. I am still high over the amount of quality groceries that I purchased today for an amazing price, comparable to the local stores of much lesser quality. I like Wegmans because the people are friendly and because I work at Wegmans on Chestnut Hill I like the people there that I work with people are always willing to help you and offer their suggestions like the lady and the cheese shop she told me about the creamy buttery 3 what she does is she puts it on toast in the morning she cut it in half and then in half again and then coordinate that she's pregnant on a piece of toast and also she puts fig Jam and the prepared foods that they have are excellent salmon and the chicken everything is delicious and even in the sushi Department it is excellent if I have some shopping to do I'll do it at Wegmans thank you and Happy Thanksgiving from Thomas Roy read more

I've been to the new Wegmans a few times now. I honestly don't see what the hype is about. It's just a supermarket. It kind of reminds me of a Whole Foods. Wegman's prices aren't that much lower than other supermarkets. While Wegmans does carry brand name items, the selection is pretty limited. The store is really small. One major annoying thing is that when you enter the store, you are forced to walk through the prepared foods/cafe area. That area is always jammed with people. Navigating around the store even with a mini cart is a challenge. People often block aisles with their carts or SUV-sized baby strollers. Or they're just standing in the middle of the aisle (with no cart or basket) pointing at products to their friends/family. Um, this is a supermarket, not a tourist attraction. Politely asking people to move out of the way so you can get by can lead to one getting a dirty look. The produce selection isn't much different than what is offered at other area supermarkets. I'll stick with buying produce at Russo's in Watertown. The bakery has a wide variety of offerings. The min pastries are great for early morning meetings. I've tried some of the seafood $7 and $8 entrees and they were decent. The tilapia ones seemed bland but the salmon with brown sugar cracked pepper glaze was really good. The one unique thing about Wegmans is that there is a model train that runs on a suspended track above one of the island refigerated cases. Few people notice it though, even when the train blares the whistle. I'm surprised people are griping about the parking garage. The entire garage isn't just for Wegmans. The building that Wegmans is located in has medical offices on the upper floors so staff who work in those offices and patients need a place to park. The first level of the garage looks like it is dedicated for Wegmans, although one can certainly park anywhere in the garage and take the elevator down to Wegmans. Going through the garage isn't the only way to get to Wegmans (apparently you enter on the second level and have to go down a level to get to Wegmans). There's another entrance on the other side of the mall by Milton's. You just have to drive down the hill and past the Wegmans loading dock to get to the outside Wegmans parking lot. The outside lot is pertty tight so you have to go slow and keep an eye out for anyone who is walking through the lot and not paying attention like kids who are goofing off and people who are texting while walking (and yes I have seen both). read more

I have gone to Wegmans four times and am not impressed. Three times they were out of cauliflower which needed and therefore had to go to another market. Also, the few packages of sliced mushrooms they had were brown. I wasn't thrilled with their prices and I like Sudbury Farms much better. read more

Wegmans is a great chain with a focus on an affordable and enjoyable shopping experience. Always plenty of checkout lanes open, unlike other stores. Attached wine/beer/liquor store has good selection. Only drawback to this location is that it is half the size of a regular Wegmans. read more

I really want to love this Wegmans but every time I go here I end up getting frustrated. First of all the store is always insanely crowded and it feels like a traffic jam of carts which ever way you turn so if you are looking to run in for something quick forget it. I have come here early on the weekends, after work, late at night, doesn't matter which time its always mayhem. The layout of the store is also strange and the way they organized the food is not what you would be accustomed to based on other grocery stores so it can sometimes be tricky if you are looking to find a particular item rather than going through each aisle. The other issue I have with this Wegmans is the selection is very small. If you are looking for a certain brand (not Wegmans generic) then there is a 50/50 chance they will carry it. Even so the store is very nice inside and although it is not as good as other Wegmans I have been to its still better than Stop & Shop or Shaws. The only warning I have is the parking lot is seriously torture so if you don't have a lot of patience looking for parking or waiting in a crazy long line to leave and get back on Boylston you may want to pass on this location. read more

Sorry, but if you're going to charge Starbucks prices for a cup of coffee, it had better be good! Honestly the weakest coffee I've ever had. The decaf came out looking like tea! Simply, gross. As for the market, I don't find the prices that competitive, and at Whole Foods I know what I'm getting. Seems there's a lot of 'main food supply' stocking the store. :( read more

I think they are the best around! Good layout, great prepared foods selection, they also have a coffee/smoothie stand making fresh drinks, and beautiful flower shop. The staff there are extremely professional and helpful. They also have Kosher and Gluten Free section. read more

Thank God these people have come to Boston! They have forced everybody to up their game. Even though this store is small by Wegman's standards, they have tremendous variety of produce, including reasonably priced organics. I am a name brand shopper but there are some Wegman's products that I prefer to the national brands. I trust them; seafood is not adulterated with nasty chemicals. Service is very helpful at finding things and everyday products like milk are very well priced, although you need a card. read more

Love this place. Great food, great selection of healthy alternatives to just about everything. The hot and ready food section is good but a bit pricey (maybe because I stuff so much in the container). Liquor store above has great selection of craft beer. How awesome and convenient is that? Just be sure to check dates on bottles. Only complaint with this place would be that most patrons are overly rude. Maybe par for the course in these type stores 'cause I notice that in Whole Foods in Newton too (even more). Or it could just be the people in that area. No bother though. Prepared buffet station food is best in area. Market is huge, high quality bread, meat and seafood at reasonable prices.

So the cupcakes at Wegman's are still amazing. Tried some new things this time - mochi which was a disappointment. I bought 2 four packs because I had high hopes. The filling in these is too sweet - didn't remind me of kinds I've had before. Finally tried the cheese pizza and it was a let down. More expensive than whole foods but just OK. Enjoyed browsing around and got Saranac Shirley Temple 6 pack which I haven't seen in other stores and was delicious. Long story short, I think Wegman's is a cool place, but not every prepared food items is a home run. You find things in here that are unique while other items they don't carry. read more

I love this store and am surprised it hasn't scored better in reviews here. It's well-stocked, has a terrific produce selection, and there's a really good variety of international foods. Prices are competitive and for stuff like Wegmans milk, they're way cheaper (and it seems to be good quality). The staff is super: I've been in about 8 times now and have never waited more than a couple of minutes in a checkout line. If they see a line forming, they open another. Staff are friendly, helpful, efficient, and they know their store. The fish department is really good, with a nice selection of excellent quality fish, and the people behind the counter know their stuff. It's an interesting store, presenting a very upscale Whole Foodsy look at the front, and sort of a Costco (as Nate Y. mentioned in his review) look toward the back where the staples are. The only downsides: don't go on a Sunday or holiday afternoon when it can be a madhouse; when it's busy, or around rush hour, the parking lot can be a pain to get out of; and Chris D. is right in his observation that a lot of shoppers there seem utterly clueless as to how to navigate a supermarket -- just stop in the middle of the aisle and block all traffic while you read the ingredients on a package. But otherwise it's a really nice place to shop for good quality groceries. read more

I was very excited about trying Wegmans for the first time as I had heard that it was amazing. I was extremely disappointed when comparing it to my usual place, Trader Joes. I bought fresh chicken and tried to cook it after 4 days. It smelled terrible right out of the package, and after cooking tasted rotten. I had to trash 2 packs. Wegmans has a huge selection of fresh food, but too expensive. I picked up cherries to later see in the receipt that I paid almost $20 for them. I usually watch the prices as the cashier rings it up, but she messed up scanning so many times that I missed it. There are lots of prepared fresh meals, but they cost the same as going to a restaurant. Additionally the place was so packed that I felt overwhelmed. Wegmans is good in the fact that they promote healthy food and hide the processed food in the back, but I prefer meat that doesn't go bad that quick and fruits that aren't putting holes in my pocket. One of the rudest stores I have ever shopped in. The employees are power hungry rude and disrespectful. They lack all knowledge and have the inability to ask anyone else for assistance they cant give an answer to. I bought a store name product that tasted terrible which I threw out.I felt they would have wanted me happy not wasting my money on something I threw out they would have refunded my $4.00. the kid decided it was too long.I ask what was too long and he just said too long. It was less than 2 months since I am not always in that area.He couldnt even show me anything that listed what was too long. He said it was his discretion.So I say you are going to disrespect and question a customer over $4.00?I say that was calky of him and I will never shop there again.Also same store wouldnt sell me coke that was on sale in westwood.No where in the ad did it say Westwood only so I figured all the stores had it for that price just like any other store unless otherwise stated. Once again power hungry and determined to to say I am the boss and I say no over $10.00 worth of soda. If you want to shop there you better just go in there say nothing and do what they say cause you are fortunate that they have allowed you to shop in their store and give your money to them. read more

Really excited for this Wegmans to open and put a damper on Shaws across the street though there are issues here. The Parking lot only has 2 elevators for all the people that have to park in the garage. If your on the top floor try and get in the elevator first. We had the buffet that is a standard for every Wegmans though the Fried Rice was flavorless and the Mozz Sticks tasted like French Toast Sticks with cheese. It is considerably smaller then the Southbourough Wegmans. We tried the Orange juice which was great but then we had the Spicy Vegetable dip which needed Salt as it was so boring and overpriced at almost $7. The Staff is friendly and I am sure that it will become a staple in the area over time but right now it is an high priced impostor with the same morals though lack of culinary training for flavors. Oh and the Almond Milk was Watery and lacked a vanilla kick that is pretty common in these types of milk. I would have rated it lower though I know it will shape up in time read more

Wegmans was such a big deal coming to town. Here's my opinion: Eh. Not worth it. I do not see the appeal. Prepared food bar looked like Country Buffet. Dried, boring, prefabricated, unappetizing meals for $9.99 a pound. Prices were high. Produce selection was expansive, but much more pricey than Russos. Hard to shop. A lot of hype for no reason. Shaw's has better prices for commodities, Russo's has better prices for produce. We are going back to Shaw's as it's just down the street and prices are MUCH better. I am sure Wegmans will build hype and do some good initial business, but smart customers will prove them wrong. As a last note, I signed up up for their rewards program and got the 'card'. As we checked out, I had my card scanned. I asked what good does it do to the clerk. He said 'it gives you discounts on sale items'. Unfortunately he said, you bought nothing on sale. So with a $130 bill, we got no discounts. We will not be back. These West Roxbury residents will shop at Roche or Shaw's. Wegman's you ain't all that. read more
