Ordered from Hannaford in Chelmsford MA, Drumhill Rd., via their website, for delivery. I was pleasantly surprised that they had same-day delivery and set up a delivery of 6-7pm. it is now 9:08pm and I have no food. When I called the store, the person who answered the phone AND the store manager both immediately knew who I was, and why I was calling. No attempt to contact me was made, and no update on a new time of delivery, or reason for the delay. When I asked, they also immediately knew why it was delayed. The driver they contracted to make the delivery cancelled the order after allegedly showing up and accepting the items, then cancelling the order and returning the food to the store. I asked the manager if my food was now war, and out of refrigeration... to which he said everything had been re-refrigerated and allegedly the "driver" is on his way... but 2 hours and 10 minutes later... and counting... and how many people have handled my groceries? After they had to be checked and repacked? Will the milk be bad, ice cream melted, the bread crushed? I rushed home to be there for the delivery... The manager offered me $25. My time is worth way more than that. 0 out of 10. Strongly do not recommend shopping here. They knew what's going on, they just don't care about their customers. read more

I was motivated to write this positive review as someone from the bakery department, Juliana, was so kind as to help me today in writing a birthday cake wishes in frosting. Though I bought the cake yesterday, I was able to come in today and have her write on the cake. Besides the bakery department being top-notch, Hannaford's has the most fresh fish I've seen in three states! Try the Atlantic salmon; it is brought in fresh every day! It is so good/so fresh, you can eat it raw (which I do). This Hannaford is a vital part of the Waltham community. There is a cashier who works at hannafords in Waltham - her name is Marcy. I have dealt with this individual more than once. She never greets me or asks me if I found everything I need. She constantly tells me I cannot put my sugar and ice on her counter because she says she has to clean it. Today she saw me, looked at me, told the person in front of me to tell me that she was closing down her register- she could've told that to me to my face considering that I was next in line with no one behind me and I only had 4 items in my cart. She instructed the customer in front of me to lock the register chain in front of me, forcing me to use the self checkout. After checking out, I saw her standing around chatting casually with her coworkers... seems like she just didn't want to work today? Hannaford has nearly gone the way of the dinosaur in the greater Boston area. This location in Waltham is the only store left inside of Route 128, while there used to be quite a few throughout the suburbs of Boston. This particular location was very clean and well stocked. I didn't like the weird smell throughout the entire produce and deli area... too strong of a cleaner was used over there. Not appealing for groceries with that stench (minus a few stars for that)! Large store with a better selection than typically available from either Star Market or Shaw's. It seemed very well maintained and organized as well. Grocery stores are grocery stores, and Stop&Shop (to me) is better than all the rest of chains in the greater Boston area, but this is one of the better options for groceries in Waltham if you cannot make the drive to Stop&Shop in Watertown. I've been kind of a snob about this place because the first couple of times I'd been in there, there was a strange smell that concerned me. But recently I went there again because it's the closest grocery store to me and by far the cheapest. It's pretty small, their parking is also a bit awkward, especially during busy times. Their fresh food selection is pretty good, all veggies and fruits look great. The bakery bread selection is small. Haven't bought meat here yet. They do have a hot/cold food bar which I was really surprised by because since Covid started most places (like Star Market) did away with it and only have to-go grab bags. They layout of the store is not my favorite. However, they have the cheapest prices in the area -- even cheaper than Market Basket for certain things, and the quality is still great (in comparison to Shaws, Stop and Shop, and even Star Market). read more

This stores pretty alright! Happy it's here. Hannafords carries my favorite kind of Febreeze, as well as some specific items I really enjoy; like Brand specific Almondmilk, Brand specific cereal (Love Vans brand!), or Cherry Apple Fruit twists. Have some great long lasting candles here. I got Mulled Cider, Summer Slices, and Pineapple coconut, Religious candles. Impressed by the amount of Gluten Free, and Vegetarian Options. Not impressed at lack of Hot Sauces. I'm a Tabasco girl, and Pace is always cool, but I've been spoiled by The Boulder hot sauce company, and others in California. There's a grocery closer to me, but it seems to cost more, and Hannafords is right by my bank, so perfect. Sign up for their rewards program before you go in- They will not even swipe for you haha. going to this Hannafords reminds me of going to the market in some poorly supplied tropical country. if you don't have expectations and just need staples, it will do. if you actually want/need something specific, don't get your hopes up. instead of restocking things that are out, they just move stuff over to cover the hole. when something breaks, it is broken for weeks/months. they knocked out their customer service desk to make room for self checkout, but only have a few of them on at any given time. so if you need something that a computer can't provide, you have to pray for it. read more

Not many coupons and it is not all that easy to redeem the minimal amount of rewards you will accumulate C2 the self check-out kiosks usually have at least one broken/"out of service" machine every time I visit... kind of hassle since I like to pack my own bag C3 employees who pack bags don't seem to understand that I 1) am walking my purchases home and need to fit everything in my backpack and in the reusable bag 2) need heavy items in my backpack and 3) would like to avoid using one-time-use plastic bags as much as possible. It is the only grocery store located in Waltham. It is pretty much like any other grocery store. The only issue I had is that they are out of stock most of the time of many products. Sometimes I cannot find greens that I need or something else. Their tea section looks pretty sad. They are doing great with coffee but what "tea" people should do? The line for the check-out is confusing as well. You could spend some time in the line when finally figuring out that if you are doing self-checkout you can go without waiting in a line. Why no one is staying there and telling people that they can go to self-checkout and they do not have to wait in line. That is very annoying. The shopping cards look dirty. I go here because their prices are generally comparable to Market Basket but I don't have to deal with even half of the in-store traffic I would there. Even when I lived in Watertown, I still drove here because of the prices and they send me pretty good coupons on the app. I'll be leaving Waltham soon and won't continue to make the trek over. Their produce section is seriously abysmal and I'm assuming you have to get there first thing in the morning to get any veggies of decent quality. Ahh yes, Somerville Market Basket in beautiful downtown Union Squayah - that ancient Greek coliseum of mortal shopping combat. Where only the standards of compassion for fellow shoppers are lower than the prices. And now on center stage, the Rock-em Sock-em Dueling Demoulases, clearing the aisles with their greed for Grand-dad's hard earned riches, and leaving the shelves looking like Baghdad after an ill-planned military operation. So grocery shopping options are running thin in the good ol' Meffa/Slummahville Metropolitan Area. There's Shaw's in Porter Square, for Whole Paycheck prices sans the social responsibility theater, there's Slop and Shop in Medford for sheer grime and expiration dates from the days of Reaganomics, and...well, Aldi in Wellington Circle smells exactly like what I'm sure the zombie apocalypse will smell like, once it's well underway. Plus you have to rent a grocery cart. So I fired up the warp engines in the ol' 2006 Toyota Enterprise, set the coordinates for Waltham, and decided to explore Hannaford. Wow. I mean, just wow. A real grocery store. With nice, clean, wide, well stocked aisles. Huge and spacious. Right here on the banks of that dirty water. Beautiful fresh produce, colorful displays of cheeses, salads, and deli meats, and friendly customers and staff to boot. And the prices - $1.69 for romaine lettuce, $5.99 for a Chi-chi's frozen Mexican lasagna, $7.99 for a bag of Peet's coffee, $0.99 for English muffins, and for my absolute favorite indulgence - Brianna's Ginger Mandarin dressing - only $3.59 (try taking a mortgage out for that elsewhere in this economy). And that's without the loyalty card mongers singing Every Bite You Eat, I'll Be Watching You. I'll definitely be coming back. Even if it means driving through the Black Hole of Cal--er, I mean Waltham. And the best part is that they even have several non-automated express checkout lanes (don't get me started). If you're throwing a birthday party, bar mitzvah, baby shower, employee going away party or whatever and need a lot of cake for cheap that still tastes wicked good then you should pick it up from Hannaford's! So many times I've taken the label off the cake package and people bite into it and are like WOW this is GOOD cake! They would never be able to tell it's from a local grocery chain. I think it tastes pretty good cuz the frosting is not teeth achingly sweet and the cake is moist, soft, and fluffy good. Umm the rest of the grocery store is not so fresh and wonderful. The prices are really low, as I've compared several products here vs Shaw's and Hannafords always beats their price. But quite often I have brought home yogurt that was already past the expiration date, and bread that already had mold in it. So buying cheap has a price...inspect your food carefully! read more

However it's still sketchy and nowhere near as nice as supermarkets back home in Texas...the birth place and headquarters of the flagship Whole Foods. I've run into the weirdest people on the face of the earth at this supermarket which fits because the whole ambience of this place is kinda sketchy. However, they do have a wonderful new "Healthy" section with tofu, veggie, whole grain stuff and other health foods. The produce department is in need of improvement. This is one of like 5 grocery stores that I shop at on a regular basis. I've been a customer since the place was Victory, and although the Hannaford buyout has improved the store, I kinda miss those ghetto Victory days. As previously mentioned, prices here are low and they don't make you sign up for a stupid discount card to track your buying habits and stuff. The produce section is really nice -- not Whole Foods, but they have a large organic section, plus a good selection of what's in season and occasional deals. I can always find tasty greens here, and if I am randomly in the mood for brussels sprouts or squash, they have it. They also carry strawberries from Plant City, FL in season -- the best strawberries in the damn country. Boo to California strawberries, BOO I say. I go here for produce and whatever they don't sell at Trader Joe's, basically. It's worth a visit. Also, there's this Hannaford magazine thing that they throw in if you spend I think $25. It's kinda cool and has recipes, and I like feeling like I get something for free. read more

On and off, this grocery store has both skeeved me out and scared me a bit over the 10 years or so that I've been coming here. Nevertheless, I give it four stars. Haven't seen him at the registers in several months, but I always make it a point to get in his line if I see he is working. He just had a kind demeanor about him. Feels like a throwback to the 1950s. * Jose, the kind and helpful man behind the fish counter. He always recognizes myself or my boyfriend when we're staring at the seafood selection trying to pick out something for dinner, gives us a kind smile, and says thank you. Again, a quaint throwback feeling that you just don't see these days in customer service/retail. Seriously, what other grocery store in the area has employees whose names--and faces-- you remember? Sure, given my drothers, I'd rather shop at Whole Foods. But that gets expensive--and this place is really convenient. When in Waltham, give me Hannaford over Shaw's or Stop & Shop any day . . . P.S. Their Tropicana OJ is about a dollar cheaper here than it is at Shaw's, Stop & Shop, or Whole Foods. Same thing goes for Cedar's humus and Nellie's cage-free eggs. I don't know where previous Yelpers were shopping because the prices at this place are ridiculously high. If I'm going to pay Trader Joe's and Whole Foods prices, I'd rather just shop there. This place has a decent selection of fresh convenience foods, like soups, salads, sandwiches, etc. But....I had an issue with a cashier that has made me swear to never return. So I have a basket of seriously 6 things and she refused to take them out of the basket and stood there, refusing to ring me up until I took them out of the basket myself. Now, I wouldn't really care, but I had been honestly absent minded about it and her attitude threw me for such a loop that I resorted to Drama 101 to get them rung up. This grocery store is the close to my apartment and it's cheap - that being said.... *People/staff never say "hello, how are you" (or make eye contact....customer service, much?) *Produce is generally reliable - but check your selection to make sure there aren't bruises/is ripe (sometimes the herbs are already past their due date, and fruits are apparently not considered fragile goods) *Deli people are nice (but I don't get anything from the deli) *Prices are competitive....but it's a marginal sacrifice for quality. Overall - good for simple needs (canned goods, baking needs, yogurt), but if you're hosting a party...show your guests you love them, just hope 5miles down the road to Wholefood's or Trader Joe's. read more

Wow, the parking lot and store were crowded and chaotic on a rainy Sunday afternoon. My boyfriend's sister in law said the store is expensive in terms of produce, but she, like me, enjoys shopping at ethnic supermarkets where produce is generally cheaper. That said, I got a large chocolate chip cookie for $1.19 and five donut holes for $0.20/piece. I am a loyal Hannaford shopper until the day I die. Growing up in New Hampshire, my family shopped at Hannaford, so when I moved to Boston in 2010 and saw the prices of the Stop N Shops and Star Markets in the city I almost died. We learned there was a Hannaford in Waltham, so every weekend we made the drive from Allston to Waltham for groceries. The difference in price was well worth the trip. Aside from great prices, there are no loyalty or shopper cards. Sales are just sales. The Waltham location can have some strange shoppers, and it can get busy (especially the parking lot) but it's reasonable and efficient nonetheless. Hannaford's meats and seafood are excellent, especially for the price. Their deli meats and cheeses are awesome, and never questionable looking. The place is clean and the food is ALWAYS fresh. They also have an amazing bakery. Their cakes, with the "best creme" frosting are the best kind of cakes, since I hate the sickly sweet icing on most cakes. They have muffins, donuts, cakes, you name it. And everything is delicious. I've been able to turn a few people into Hannaford shoppers simply because Hannaford always carries the best produce and a wide variety of natural and organic foods. read more

Wow, this place looks like a jail from the outside. Only truly in the know people who go around to the parking lot realize it is a grocery store. I broke away from my normal route last night to pull into the parking lot, park, and walk inside. Then I thought, "Wow, this place looks like a jail from the inside, too." The lights are harsh after the sun goes down, and there's no blend of the natural and man-made light. The ceilings (although they are high) seem incredibly low, and the barrage of aisles facing the door makes me slightly uncomfortable, like I have to note the exits in case there's an emergency. Did someone die here once? This place gives me the heebee jeebees. That being said, they have a nice selection of everything. Good meats. One other strange thing: they don't sell booze, but place all the mixers and stuff together to attract people over to that section, but then you realized it's not booze, and you're like, "Fuck, now I have to find the exit and go down to the liquor store that also is creepy." read more

Hannaford's let a hacker steal my credit card number!!! I couldn't use it for a month! OK, OK that doesn't have a lot to do with the quality of the store but it still pissed me off. Very basic super market. It has nothing to offer in the way of organic or vegetarian foods. The produce area is decent but the rest of the store looks like it was left back in the 70's. I also find the organization of the store somewhat confusing and the clientele can be scary... it's just not a place I enjoy to shop at and maybe I'm just a spoiled shopper.
