The negative, produce is sold by the unit rather than by weight, so you might end up with a tiny zucchini. If they replace your item, they're supposed to give it to you at the lower price, but they kept running out of Alfredo sauce when I was trying to get it on sale. read more

Not having the a person who oversees the cashiers yell at a customer that they have to be patient after 1) the cashier has to wait for the manager to open the drawer to make change for the customer ahead of you which results in a 10 minute wait and 2) then yell because you decide not to make a purchase that needs someone else's approval because you need to leave. Went to this location this morning after trying roslindale & then Hyde park. I wish I would've just went to the Newport ave location like i normally do. All I wanted were some crab legs, that's it. I am standing in the seafood department for about 10 minutes, where again workers are just looking at me and walking by. I eventually a woman in the deli called someone to the seafood department for me. I did not see any crab legs in the display case & the two containers that were pre packaged were broken pieces, and full of ice. Definitely not worth the money. But Michael finally came & clearly he's not a morning person. I inquired if he had any additional crab legs and he told me he did not and said there's some in the case (the pre packaged broken ones they clearly threw in there from the night before) I informed him I needed clusters and he said they're frozen. I told him that was fine but he advised there are not anymore. So he sees me look at his name tag and walk away to take a breather before I lose my cool. I come back and confirm he does NOT have any other crab legs in store that are full clusters. He then tells me they are frozen and he will need to go get them & then package them & it'll take about 10 minutes so he's sure I don't want to wait. Now sir, I just drove to 3 stores for these crab legs, don't piss me off. He ended up getting the crab legs and due to his attitude while doing so I opted for the few ones he had already got out & left. Shopped today at the Dedham, MA location. The cashier Carlos completely ignored us never spoke to us not even to tell us the amount we owed. Then proceeded to ball up my change and hand it to me without counting it back or ever speaking to us. Tried calling to speak to manager and was hung up on 3 times. Physically went into store and had to track down Manager ourselves. A lot of I understand, and it shouldn't of happen. A point to mention. The cashier actually ridiculed the customer before us that had trouble with her payment card. He summoned a manager and then they loudly read her card number out as the manager entered info at register. This seems to be how the treat their customers. I will not return to this store again. read more

This particular Stop&Shop location is one of the few establishments I always go back and forth with. Some things about this place are great and others really suck. I will start with the benefits. George and Marianne, the assistant managers, really keep this place going, without them I don't know what kind of mess this place would be in. They resolve any concerns or issues efficiently and effectively, which is always appreciated. Throughout the past year, they have both been able to make so much progress on price accuracy and store cleanliness. I will also say that for the volume of business from this store (if you haven't been here before, you should know it's a busy place and is one of the highest performing stores in the state), they do a great job keeping the shelves well stocked and the store clean and user friendly. I also appreciate the uprising in consumer based technology. This consists of handheld scanners (SCAN IT), brand new "scan and go" stations, and an expanded self checkout area. This specific Stop&Shop has surely worked to improve over time to make shopping the most convenient it can for the high volume of customers it serves. I also use the gas station here quite frequently and have never once had an issue. Now, on the negative. Lines are outrageously long nearly all the time. Basically they only have a few registers open when more are necessary all the time which can be crazy. This had gotten better since the addition of new self checkout machines; however, it's still an issue. On the weekends, it's difficult to even travel through the main aisle because there are so many people waiting in line. The store is in desperate need of a renovation that nearly every other Stop&Shop has received. All of the other stores in the area (Norwood, Walpole, Hyde Park) are much more desirable for shopping since they are so much brighter and more state of the art, due to the fact they all have gotten renovations. This particular store has so much potential if they just made some cosmetic upgrades. Overall, this store is okay, and for the amount of people always here, it's really not bad; however, I much prefer the other nearby locations both more due to their always being less people at each of them and just being nicer stores to shop in. Especially the produce area here... so so dark. Star Market up the road in the Dedham Plaza is certainly the best grocery option in Dedham. 3 stars. A-OK. read more

I am re-naming the Dedham store "Stop & Try-to-Shop" Stopped in today for three things: eggs, cocoa powder and peppermint extract. Yes, it's the week before Christmas and I am baking something. I am also going to go out on a limb here, and guess that I am not the only one doing this either, so one would think that they would be well-stocked, right? Again, just a guess, and I am not a high-stakes gambling girl. Anyhow, no Hershey's cocoa in sight. None. Peppermint extract? Nope. Unfortunately, the banana extract and a host of other weird flavors just wasn't going to cut it in my CHOCOLATE MINT cookies this Christmas season. Grabbed a 6-pack of Diet Coke and went to the self-check line; should be easy, right? No. The machine jammed, paper snarl created a need for someone to come "assist", and my transaction which should have taken two minutes took about 10. I'll go to a real grocery store next time. read more

High Tech Market My preferred supermarket in the area. Accessible via a couple of bus routes out of Forrest Hills T station as well as easy to drive/park. Besides being a big, modern market with lots of space to move around what I REALLY love about this place is the technology they have in place to make shopping easier. Technology in place here: - Handheld product scanners that total your order up as you put things into your basket. Also beams new coupons and offers to you - The handheld scanners are integrated into the self-checkout lanes, point your scanner at the register and your entire order is rung up and ready to pay for. How awesome is not having to scan every single item at the register? - If you bag your stuff while shopping, use the handheld scanner and the self-checkout lanes then you can get in and out of the market very quickly without dealing with a cashier or much in the way of lines. - Oh yeah, the freakin' deli counter will send a text message to your phone when your deli order is up. I put a picture of this up in this review. - Also, at the deli counter you can swipe your shopper card and enter your order at a kiosk. The system remembers your past orders and you can designate them as favorites and pick up the same order over and over again with just a few clicks. - And as people have mentioned they now operate a gas station. If you use your Stop&Shop card you get $.05 off the gallon price. Each time you spend $100 in the supermarket they will credit your card with a token that takes $.10/gallon off the price of your next fill-up. I end up here often because it is a four-minute drive from my house - but almost always regret it when I end up waiting forever in line to check out... Overall selection is good, they have mostly the stuff I want, and the beer and wine section is a perk. I've found the produce to be decent, too (although the layout is somewhat awkward). But the check-out, dear god. Almost always chaotic, super long lines that move slowly and end up blocking the whole front area of the store so you can't even move around. This happens on weekends, Friday nights, even during the week on some occasions. Totally avoidable with better staffing and line management... other supermarkets have figured this out. Super frustrating and makes it impossible to quickly run in for something without it being a long ordeal. read more

The man was extra rude to me about it, not sure his name but he was a dark skinned man (African American) and really tall with short hair. This occurred today. That's enough! I've never been impressed with Stop and Shop when it comes to any of the produce or even this location. The customer service has never been great but today was just bad. I was buying two packages of jello today with my three year old. I went to the self checkout as I thought it would be faster. I scanned the first package it told me to put it in the bagging area. I did. However the computer wouldn't let me scan the next item. The sales associate managing the self checkout area came over and yelled at my son for being near the bagging area. She said that was what was 'screwing' up me scanning. She continues to yell at him and I told her that he's only three and doesn't understand. She then tries to move him from the area. Instead of making a scene I scan the next package and pay for the items. She was completely rude. I understand that it can be busy at a grocery store on a Sunday but yelling at a toddler is unacceptable. read more

There is a woman at the deli counter who takes your order to cut meat or cheese and right before she starts she touches her face and face mask with the same gloves she then touches your food with and she looks you right in the eyes as she's doing it. Its happened to me more than once. It's really gross. Completely unhygienic. Someone should teach her to take her gloves off and wash her hands before putting a new pair on and only handle the food with the gloves and nothing else. I've noticed the deli lines have disappeared and I'm pretty sure this is why. I'm going to a different deli from now on as well. Yuck. read more

As far as groceries go, I find the store to be well stocked and reasonably priced with a good beer and wine selection, but checkout is always a bit chaotic, so I would give the store itself 3 stars. Wegmans is much better for food. However, I would give the pharmacy 5 stars. I recently switched from CVS, which I think most would agree is usually busy, pretty slow, and somewhat impersonal. I found the opposite to be true with the S&S pharmacy. The pharmacist was very friendly and helpful, and I had a very short wait time even as though I needed to be added to the system. Going there reminded me of going to the local pharmacy in small town Alabama where the pharmacist knew all their clients and were always ready for a short, friendly conversation. They got an award for most produce sold in a week which I didn't even know was a thing but it is. Why did they sell so much you may ask? Cause the produce is bomb and fresh straight out the box. Great beer and wine selection. It's always busy because it's right outside Boston and people need to eat to live so if you have to wait in line just relax and read a tabloid. It gets minus one star because they changed the self checkout area and it's all cramped now and I had a great bagging system with the old layout and this ruins my vibe. read more

Boyfriend and I came here after we stopped at Babies R Us. We decided to go visit his brother and sister in law and cook them dinner so we picked up items to make a meat and veggie pasta sauce, bruschetta, and a salad. Everything we were looking for, we found. I loved the selection of produce, and while I can't really comment on price, as we wanted to pick up dinner regardless, it seemed on par with grocery store prices. Store aisles are pretty generous, and the shelves were pretty well stocked. It didn't look like they were running out of essentials in terms of preparing for Hurricane Sandy. I bagged most of our groceries, but once the cashier was done ringing things up, he helped too. read more

This is definitely the best stop and shop I've been to. It's well kept with a slightly larger than average produce selection. The produce at stop and shop is usually pretty neck and neck with Shaws prices, with Shaws being a little cheaper on most of the things I eat, usually. This stop and shop is exceptionally large, with a well stocked "Nature's Promise" aisle where they pile up all their frozen and non-perishable organic products. They have one or two of those non-dairy ice creams, froyo from stony ridge which I've never tried, and that chocolate brand turned ice cream maker Black & something? Ice cream. No Sweet Scoops froyo which is stocked by roche bros as I learned recently. They carry a lot of nature's path cereals, and this specific market is the only one that's not a Whole Foods that I've seen that stocks their Smart Bran cereal. They also have the optimum series, of which I like Power the most, and lots and lots of their Flax series, each with a labeled amount of omega 3. They are well stocked with yogurts, no skyr, but a fine substitute in Chobani greek yogurt. These and other standard supermarket items are priced in the general vacinnity of Shaws, plus or minus a few cents depending on the product. The cheese section is really comprehensive for a stop and shop. They carry boucheron?! wow. Limited selection of goat cheeses though. No humboldt fog :( Don't think that just because it's branded as stop and shop, the cheese will be cheaper than more "gourmet" markets. Russo's sells boucheron for a dollar cheaper a pound. Their frozen foods section is really large, and you'll probably see more than your average supermarket selections. This Stop and Shop is clean, well stocked and the very standard supermarket prices. Edit: My mistake, the website said it closed at 9 daily, but it actually opens til midnight except on sunday. read more

I never would have guessed that I would ever give a Stop and Shop (or any of the larger chain supermarkets) 4 stars. I'm a Market Basket fan for the pricing alone, but have found myself sacrificing price point for technology. Self scanning is the way to go! I love this feature at Stop and Shop in Dedham. you can literally have an entire grocery shopping experience with zero human interaction. Scan your stop and shop card Grab a self scanner and some bags Scan and bag your items as you shop scan your stop and shop card at a self checkout to pay return your scanner and leave Even deli orders can be input into a machine to be filled while you shop - you'll hear an announcement when your order is ready for pickup. Only problem is - on a busy day, there either are not enough scanners available as they don't re-charge fast enough between uses. Stop and Shop needs to have more on-hand for the busy weekend days. But overall a great way to shop (if you can swallow the prices). read more

I go the extra mile to the Stop @ Shop in Norwood. Nicer cashier. Shorter lines and express checkout registers with 12 items or less. Also friendlier cashiers. This store here has problems. I mean major ones. Long check out lines, nasty cashiers and dopey managers. Unless you want to waste your time go here. I dont. I have better things to do. The self checkout registers are a pain because people especially the elderly dont know how to use them and the managers wont help you and the help are not helpful. read more

So, I was there around closing time on Sunday. Granted they close at 9. But for a number of customers waiting to checkout, we had to endure one of the workers (perhaps some kind of manager) named Dauphne , an older woman, spouting off about how they close at 9 and telling another worker to go collect the remaining folks to come up now "and that we,re closed now" - with a condescending tone and arrogance which screamed that Santa was not good to her. It's not that I won't shop there again, but for the person spending their money there having to listen to that as a customer is wrong and Dauphne needs to either relax or move on....there is a way to talk to customers and Stop and Shop should teach her how. read more

The items I'm looking for are always in stock (for the most part). It's organized so I can easily find what I need. It's also clean, usually well-staffed, and has several self check-out lanes. The "cashiered" check outs tend to get very backed up. Overall, I can generally get in and out of there quickly which is really convenient. read more

This has been my go to store due to location for the past 6 years. Never had a bad experience until recently. I have to admit it all went down hill with the deli department. Having fun at work and talking to your co-workers is one thing, but ignoring customers and making errors with orders is another. 3 out of the past 4 times at the deli counter, my orders are wrong and every time, I had to say my order more than twice! Also, just last week, I purchased chicken and hamburg both to my surprise had already expired! While Stop & Shop is very willing to take returns, but really who has time for that! read more

Convenient location, near I-95 and Route 128. Located in a shopping center with Dick's sporting goods and near the Sears, AC Moore, Old Navy and DSW. The prices are good, always clean and stocked. Horrid customer service experience. There was a promotional discount on Powerade. I went through the checkout, and I was charged full price for each Powerade I purchased. I mentioned this error to the Cashier who advised to use the service desk for this request. After waiting for 20 minutes holding 15 lbs of groceries, the service desk associate requested to know where this advertisement was placed. The person behind me mentioned the advertisement is in the catalog on the service desk to the associate. After hesitation, this associate gave me back half of the discount. There was no empathy for the customer throughout this experience. I will never purchase from this location again. My recommendation would be to go to competitors like Wegman's and Roche Bros. read more
