i am glad to find this place on one of my detours, and now i have an option to get groceries on my way home without driving too far off my route. many times i've been here; i am rather neutral to this place, but certain things do need to be addressed. take my most recent visit, i got 3 items off their flyer coupons (those with minimum $25 purchase), and i bought over $100 of stuff. cashier appeared to scan the coupons, but the balance came down a few cents. it was a long day so i didn't argue with her. checked the receipt, sure nothing came off the coupons. went to customer service, was asked to show the products i bought (which brings us to another issue, as follows), even was suggested to that i took the wrong thing. finally took 10 whole minutes to give me the $3.29 i should have had off quite simply at the checkout line if your fellow colleague had done her job right. no apologies nothing either. you're on the clock, but my time is valuable too you know! i know it depends on the staff; sometimes i do get a more pleasant and competent one. as i was asked to show the products in questions, i looked through my bags and found things not quite where they should be. when i put them on the belt i had the same category of stuff together (meat, veggies, frozen, dry, etc), i don't know, for example, how 2 jars of peanut butter can be placed into two different bags, and some meat got into the same bag as the fruit (which we eat raw). granted the meat is in the thin plastic bag, but given the chance, wouldn't you want them desperate altogether? at other visits, i've found eggs and bananas at the bottom of a bag too. i've worked as a bagger in my early years, i would never do such a thing to my customers. this guy does not look like a person with disability either, so he should know what he's doing. another minor complaint is the placement of their restroom. many other s&s i've been, the bathrooms are inside the market, maybe down the hall next to the deli counter. this one has it behind the cashier counters. so in case you need to relieve yourself, you'll have to leave your shopping cart full of paid or unpaid stuff miles away from the restroom. i'm glad they at least have a functional and relatively clean bathroom, and i gather many other places (ex. Target) have their restroom outside too. but i just find it a bit of an inconvenience that way. in terms of goods selection, this place is alright. not the greatest esp when it comes to special diet (ex. gluten free) or organic fresh food: products are available, but they're scattered or severely lacking in selection. things are on pretty decent sale now and then (50% off seafood, BOGO English muffins), there is also a "permanent" shelf for nearly expired dry goods (bakery items, OTC meds, peanut butter/spread) at greatly reduced prices. and those flyer coupons...if your cashier can successfully scan them through, that is. sometimes you get good "manager specials" on the meats too, but you have to take your chance coz last time i got two organic chicken on half price, one was fine and the other was smelling funky upon opening the same night. ample parking in the lot, easy access back to 138/93/95, liquor store, blue hills bank, and Walgreen in the same plaza. a great pit stop for your daily needs. oh and shell gas station down on 138 too for those who get gas points to use. read more

Came here two weeks ago to buy crab legs & I wanted 5lbs but the guy advised me that he didn't have anymore but he gave me the rest of the ones there. I began walking and gathering my other items and the same guy came and found me to tell me he found a box in the freezer if I wanted more. So I get the additional lbs and pay and head to my car. I put the groceries in my trunk then got in my car and noticed a faint smell. Which I thought was odd but I let it go. I got home to begin catering my orders and opened one bag and the smell was honestly putrid! I gagged and just knew there's no way these crab legs were safe to consume. The smell was beyond anything in the sea .. when I went to look at them they were a brown color and slimy. I had to go all the way back to this location because my local stop and shop doesn't have a Fresh seafood section. Disgusting store. Obvious lack of care on the corporate level due to its location and disrespect for its cliental. I have never seen a grocery store with such bruised and old produce. Even the flowers are disgusting (yet still over priced). The first sign of disregard is the worst shopping carts I have ever seen, in such disrepair. Always expect to wait in a very long line, on weekends expect to wait 15 minutes to check out. Always a lone on weekdays as well. Called to let them know I was upset with how it came out and spoke to Ronald the "cake decorator" and he was VERY RUDE. I could have made 100 reviews and I'm not sure it would matter considering no one does anything ever at Stop & Shop. One star is for existing and having product at all. From time to time I see people working, but it's rare. So where do I begin? My fiancé and I love the apple turnovers so one day we go grocery shopping and pick up some from the baked goods section. We triple check to make sure it says it's apple, make sure the dates are okay, all seems okay. We get home and the damn thing is raspberry. NOT ONE WAS APPLE! The packaging was all wrong. How does this get past whatever inspection they do? OR DO THEY INSPECT ANYTHING AT ALL? After I inform the manager all I am told is that I can go ahead and get rid of it and pick up the Apple turnovers no problem. That was a huge issue because had I been allergic it could have been a much bigger situation. SO MANY WORKERS, SO LITTLE WORK I always see carts spread about filling parking spaces, disinfectant wipes often not available, bags for the groceries not available in the self checkout section. I don't understand what anyone does. I prefer self checkout because they don't know how to bag groceries efficiently. Fresh vegetables and frozen meat don't go together!!! When I ask for directions I'm always directed to someone who is supposed to know the answers, who doesn't. It's a never ending issue with them and it sucks because they are most convenient in terms of location. CHECK FOR MOLD!!!!!! BE CAREFUL THE FREE FRUIT IS SPOILED I have now encountered MOLD on "fresh" strawberries, watermelon as well as frozen ground beef and chicken wings. Keep in mind they offer free fruit to children. Expired milk has happened on two occasions. Four months expired. Four. Why isn't anything being done? Because they don't care. I don't know who is hiring these managers because there is nothing being managed! Not the employees nor the product being sold. They put that moldy food right back where it was like nothing ever happened. I take my issues up with someone (the manager) who is supposed to hold some power and make changes when necessary, but I won't hold my breath. I haven't seen a single change in the 3 years I've lived here. It's a day care center. It's a shame to have lines spilling over into aisles when you have 30 employees under the age of 18 doing absolutely nothing on their phones. This place is a disgrace. There are never enough people at check out, but a lot of people standing around. And the manager always looks like she wants to avoid customers. While I do find the meat selection better here and with a better price than Shaws I must use also add that I have been severely disappointed by the seafood counter here. More than once I get home and open by bag and it smalls like something hung has died. Now it's not to say this couldn't be a avoided either. They need to start covering their seafood in crushed ice and pronto. Im suprised the state inspectors don't demand it. It's a shame too because they have good seafood but it's left to dwell too long and the counter is never staffed appropriately. It's almost like an after thought to management. I seldom write bad reviews, so when I do, you can be assured that it is warranted. Can you say, "gag me with a pitchfork" about this Stop & Shop. OMG. First of all, it looks closed. To their credit, a brand new Super Stop & Shop is being constructed adjacent to this dump, so soon, all should be well. CLOSING this pit while new construction takes place would have been the best option. Ahh, but I digress. So, the place looks closed from the outside. It's grungy, has boards and planks where they shouldn't be, and few cars in the stadium sized parking lot. Once inside, things don't improve. It smells bad inside. The shopping baskets are ALL rusted, old, and worn. The place is dimly lit, items on the shelves have DUST, and don't even think about buying anything from the deli because who knows how long it's been there. Few shoppers, plenty of cashiers, no self-check out. Check ALL expiration dates. NOT a pleasant experience, more along the lines of icky and depressing. Although it is MUCH more cumbersome for me to get to, and this pit is within walking distance, I prefer the Stop & Shop in JP. I'm told that the one in West Roxbury is nice, too. Stay away. This is the worst super market anywhere in this area. With a few exceptions the staff is incredibly rude and that includes managers. In addition, they are constantly out of stock on many items. I asked a manager what days are delivery days and was told that there is no schedule so they don't know. Nice. I told an employee that I was having massive problems with bottle return machines and he walked away without saying a a word. I asked an employee in the meat department if the store sells packaged prosciutto and he said he had no idea and walked away. They don't answer questions because they don't care. This is a small Stop and Shop. Which is both good and bad. Selection is limited. But I have to admit i don't like the stadium sized Stop and Shops either, where you have to walk a mile out of your way to get the one thing you want. Since they rebuilt this store it is a great Stop and Shop. Extremely friendly, helpful staff, great produce selection along with other products. There meat selection is very limited so they lose a start. For the area this is the best grocery shopping option. I normally don't mind shopping at this location, and occasionally enjoy it. However there is a cashier who works there that is completely rude. This being my 4th time dealing with her. She is more interested in her phone and texting than her job. She throws your items in a pile, taking no note to what is at the bottom (my chips), she doesn't speak to you, just stares at you with a scowl on her face. The store itself is nice, but small. I have almost written this review numerous times. I live close by and would drive to Hannaford or a suburban Stop and Shop before I shop in the excuse for a supermarket. Staff is consistently rude, meat dept has very limited choices and not good cuts of meat or pork. I have never been able to find more than one SS Black Cherry soda water, always under stocked. Any day of the week, the date on dairy and meat are always only a day or two behind. I bought milk yesterday that was sour this AM and dated yesterday too! Produce is not fresh either. Countless times I have had to search or ask for a hand basket. There are never any at the door. The deli has limited choices of bread and rolls underneath the deli cases. This new market just opened on Friday. It is wonderful!!! All the latest Stop and Shop gadgets, coinstar, can return, order electronically at the deli and pick up at the end, etc. etc. It is still a smaller market than the Dedham Stop and Shop but it is about 1000% better than the old market. I am so happy that it is finally open! great sales and convenient to shop. A perfect neighborhood market. read more
