Wow - I was so glad they had a Wegmans in VA. I had been to one in Buffalo NY before. I wish they had one in San Diego CA. Definitely a top notch grocery store. Large and plenty of options. They have several prepared food options inside too, from a pizza place, to sushi, to bowls, desserts, etc. I tried one of their signature BBQ chicken bowls special $10 bowls, and a $5 slice of their pizza with blush sauce, spinach & sausage. The pizza slice was very large, delicious, filling and I would try it again. The BBQ chicken bowl was tasty, worth $10, would definitely get it again. read more

I am highly disappointed with the lack of quality control and staff training at the Charlottesville Wegmans after my recent visit. I bought sliced mortadella for a dinner party charcuterie board, only to find the deli had sliced it with the plastic casing still left on the meat. This is a major oversight and embarrassing to serve to guests. Furthermore, every piece of produce I bought spoiled completely within 14 hours.To make matters worse, the cheese department staff is unknowledgeable. As a French native, I was shocked when an employee incorrectly insisted that Pave d'Affinois is just called a Brie. Wegmans charges premium prices, but between the rotting produce, negligent deli slicing, and untrained staff, the value is simply not there anymore. Wegmans at 100 Wegmans Way in Charlottesville is an outstanding grocery store and easily one of the best in the area. Its location right next to Planet Fitness makes it incredibly convenient for a post-workout stop, whether you are grabbing something quick and healthy or planning meals for the week. Finishing a workout and walking into Wegmans feels like a reward in itself. The fresh foods section is excellent, with a wide variety of prepared meals, fresh produce, bakery items, and ready-to-eat options that make it easy to eat well without a lot of effort. The dine-in area is clean, spacious, and comfortable, perfect for sitting down with a quick meal or coffee instead of rushing out the door. This is a large footprint store, but it is well laid out and inviting, which turns a regular grocery run into more of an experience. There is so much to explore that it genuinely makes grocery shopping feel like a bit of an adventure rather than a chore. I love this Wegmans! I typically get something from the sandwich counter and the workers are always super friendly. They go above and beyond to help out - last time, the worker even gave me a see-through container for my sandwich since I had mentioned I would be taking it on an airplane and she wanted to make my trip through TSA smoother. It's usually pretty busy inside, but there's always a lot to see and it never feels too hectic, so it's one of my favorite places to stop by when I can. read more

First time ever at a Wegman's. Came on the prodding of one of our daughters-in-law who is a die-hard fan. It certainly lives up to its reputation, both for the incredibly variety of prepared to-go foods, fresh looking sushi, seafood, flowers, game meats, beers, wines as well as typical amount of dairy, cereals, sauces, etc. We especially appreciated the made-to-order hero sandwiches & the in-store seating available for us to enjoy said heroes. Grocery chains are regional, and Wegmans is only in certain urban areas, principally between DC and Baltimore and in NC in the tri-cities area. The fact that there is one here stands out. It is a bit of work to get into this shopping center, but the store is large enough to be worth the trouble. They have a large section of prepared food as well as an abundance of more typical grocery items. They didn't have as much local stuff as I would expect, but that had a few interesting non-local brands I have rarely or never seen elsewhere. Self-checkout was quite straightforward. It isn't a health food store per se but the selection is sufficiently diverse that there are vegetarian protein options for days and a variety of fresh vegetables. I found their fruit selection to have somewhat puzzling organization as it was mostly in showy holiday displays and not with the rest of the produce. It was all right not the best grocery store in certainly not the worst. You get pretty good food relatively affordable and plenty of selection. You also get a few shops in the grocery store in a nice place to eat. The sushi is surprisingly good for sushi from my grocery store and that's mainly because a lot of it is made in store in front of you this follows for pastries too. The staff are always friendly and helpful and I've never been disappointed sometimes it's a bit hard to find stuff though, as there's often movement in certain items are in the store when you go over to the restaurant area it's a very nice vibe and you get a nice place to eat. I highly suggest it if you're stopping in and looking for a quick meal. read more

The worst turkey ever! We ordered the traditional Thanksgiving turkey dinner for 10, and the turkey had a very strong smoked flavor. Far from what I'd call "traditional."! We popped in after a UVA appointment for a quick lunch and to buy a few items. Had dad in wheelchair with us, so mobility limited. Really enjoyed the Danny's Favorite sandwich from the deli; just the right if mild spice for me. Shredded iceberg lettuce was nice and crisp and vinaigrette dressing was just the thing. Store is spotless and everything is displayed beautifully. Good rye bread is a real treat as I live in California, where it is hard to find. I look forward to this loaf each time I visit! And another attraction is that they carry Chiobani lemon blended yogurt, which I have trouble finding other places. But the real reason for my review is to give a shout out to the thoughtful employee who overheard me telling dad that I couldn't find braunschweiger but didn't feel like tracking it down. As what some might call a grocery store fanatic, Wegman's is my favorite grocery story in cville (I love whole foods and trader joe's but they have a limited selection). Wegman's has just about anything and everything you could want for moderate prices and good quality. The main reason I'm reviewing Wegman's is because of their bakery section, and really their prepared food options in general. The bakery is constantly restocked with new creative and delicious items, like crème brûlée cheesecake and strawberry cake dessert cups. Any dessert you're in the mood for, they have it. Additionally, they just have an amazing selection of prepared foods ranging from poke bowls to sandwiches to pasta dinners. Had a really incredible experience at the Wegmans Deli counter a month ago that I'm still thinking about constantly. I was picking up some beans and other stuff from Wegmans when I decided I'd get a sandwich to eat on my drive home. There's a young man named Shawn working at the counter. I'm gonna keep it simple, I don't need to reinvent the wheel with this sandwich. "Let me get a six inch sub with just ham and mayo on it." Shawn then proceeded to craft my sandwich with such care and consideration that it moved me. He separated out each individual piece of ham and placed it evenly on the bread. He did this carefully and precisely. I have never seen artistry like this at what is basically a sandwich assembly line. This is all to say: if you go to wegmans and get Shawn at the deli counter -- you may as well be walking into the opera. There is beauty and craft all around us, if we'd all just take a moment to see through the static. There are people who take their jobs seriously. People who know that a decent sandwich takes a moment of thought to bring into the world. Ham and mayo and bread. A month later, it's still on my mind. I've been here several times over the years it's been open, even though I live nearly 2 hours north of here... I came for dinner once, back when they had "The Pub" still and most recently came in to grab a few bottles of wine. It's the typical Wegmans... decent service and a large selection. They do have an interesting wine cellar you can walk into and look at, in case you're seeking special bottles. read more

May great features of this store but produce is not one of them. The shelves were depleted yesterday and much of what was there was bruised, moldy and gross. I returned some items and got flack as "others didn't complain". I went to the tomato counter and brought them a box of moldy tomatoes. They should pay more attention to their produce so it matches their other departments. read more

I'm a big Wegman's fan and this is one of their bigger locations. It's one of the few supermarkets that covers so many items you can get all your shopping done in one place. Has enough specialty foods to compete with Whole Foods, but with better prices. read more

It's always so clean, alll the workers are helpful. I love the large selection of cheeses and fruits. I buy cookies when I stop in. I did purchase some fudge this time it was $9.47 for 4 pieces. Fell in love with Wegmans while stationed in Syracuse and jumped at being able to shop in one again. The bakery is your worst nightmare and will not help you avoid sweets. The meat department always has great cuts along with a tour of cheeses from around the world. You can easily try and buy a sample of everything while shopping because the selections are that good. The deli makes some of the best sandwiches you have ever had every day. Great store and always trying to source locally. read more

I am not from here but when I got here I was told to definitely visit Wegman's! I usually shop at Whole Foods, Sprouts, etc. but I figured I'd give it a try! Awesome, huge selection of everything, great selection of organic products! One of my favorite things to do is grab a slice of made to order pizza, of a sub sandwich when I first arrive, make my way through the plethora of berries, and find the plant section! I've found multiple "rare" varieties here and the prices are unbelievable! This is one of my new shopping locations for my time here in Charlottesville! read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed Wegman's yet! I love this place, especially their indoor plant selections. This is my favorite grocery store in town. Definitely on the pricier end, especially now that there's an Aldi in town, but you can't beat the quality. Reason why I gave 4 stars was because I bought some pomegranate seeds that were over ripe even though the expiration date was not for another day. The flavor tasted like chemical and it was clear it shouldn't have been on the shelf. They contacted me back after I sent a complaint so I appreciate the follow up. read more

I really like shopping at wegmans. There isn't much near 5th street compared to the many grocery stores on 29/barracks, so something other than food lion is nice. Their grab and go hot section is shut down because of covid, but when it is open the food is pretty good, albeit overpriced. The bakery section is pretty good as well, but some of the cakes taste a bit cheap and are again a bit overpriced. Chandlers bakery definitely beats them out, but I guess grabbing a cake at a grocery store has its conveniences. The deli and cheese section are really great, I didn't think they were too expensive, obviously you're paying for better quality than the typical packaged stuff. There is a lot of variety in everywhere else in the store as well. Their Hispanic and Indian food sections are pretty decent, and there's a lot of vegan and vegetarian options as well. Prices in the regular grocery store stuff are pretty good. Instacart does charge much more than in store though, so be careful if you're doing delivery. Their sushi, pizza and subs are actually all pretty good too. Theyre usually pretty fresh and those three options are very decently priced. Lines are usually long, most of the workers are high schoolers and sometimes they're understaffed at peak hours and it's hard to find someone on the floor and there's limited check out. Self checkout is usually the way to go. Pharmacy is okay, they give you a $15 off coupon for your first 5 or so visits, but the prescription prices are much higher than Costco or Walmart. Staff is always very friendly. Overall, some of their specialty areas do charge a bit more than what they're worth, but it's still a great place to go grocery shopping. read more

We are new to the area from Kansas City and my mom is visiting us to see her granddaughter. We stopped by Wegmans looking for chicken and lamb. Not only did they have a great selection but Anthony in the meat/butcher section went above and beyond for us and cut the meat into small cubes so that my mom and I wouldn't have to cut it up at home . Man I LOVE Wegmans! It's just a big step up from your average grocery store. The baked goods are excellent and there is a huge variety of breads and pastries. My favorite is the Marathon Bread and I usually get it with the cranberries for a touch of sweetness. I also love that you can buy half loaves. In a household of two, it's hard to use a whole loaf before it goes bad. The produce section is huge and the quality always looks awesome. The cheese section is extensive. Even the store brand dry goods are excellent! I also love that they have a big prepared foods/buffet style/cafeteria area that actually has really yummy food. I would just go here for lunch! And it's affordable. They also have a full coffee shop inside the store and Wegman's coffee is excellent. I got the Banana's Foster flavored coffee this last time and it was super yummy. read more

Might as well not order for pickup. If it takes you the majority of the day to figure out you will not get to a relatively small order and then you decide to cancel/reschedule the appointment about 2 hrs from when pickup time was originally schedule to a different day without customers consent. The fact that the refund takes 5-10 days is also ridiculous. For being a higher end grocery store this is the worst service I have had for ordering groceries. read more

Visited the Wegman's cafe for the first time recently because I was out in the morning with my son and we needed something to tide us over while we grocery shopped. I got the breakfast croissant with sausage egg and cheese. I had actually ordered the biscuit not the croissant, I just chose not to speak up because I wasn't too worried. Overall it tasted good, but was pretty greasy, as croissants can't hold up to it as well as other breads, and they themselves are full of butter. The egg was real and nice, and the sausage was fine, but a main contender for the grease. We also got a hot chocolate, my son drank most of it and enjoyed it, but when I tried it it was super sweet. Not chocolatey enough, too much sugar. The lady asked me to try it when she handed it to me to see if she did alright, so maybe she hasn't made them often and got the ratios slightly off. They use steamed milk which gives a nice texture. I'd visit again if stopping into Wegman's for shopping and needing sustenance, but I know I'm not awaiting anything glorious, nor would I expect it. read more

I am a huge fan of Wegmans! I only grocery shop here since it opened in Charlottesville. While it is a huge store it has everything you need. I love the Wegmans brand products as they're just as good as the other brands bur cheaper! There is even a beer and wine section with knowledgable staff that can help you choose. The app is super helpful as you can search for a product and it will tell you what aisle it's in. Also there are coupons in the app and a digital Wegmans card so you don't have to worry about bringing the fob. There's even a restaurant in the grocery store which is actually pretty affordable and good. If you manage to be in the store on the hour there's a rooster clock that will let you know! read more

Way too much IMHO. It is very hard to promote healthy eating with these prices. I realize this selection is mostly water, and therefor it is expensive when paying by the pound. I used to only shop at Whole Foods but Wegmans carries most of the same brands at a better price! The hot bar is great and their desserts are unreal! Definitely my new favorite grocery. ***updated*** originally gave them 5 stars but reducing it to 3 stars because the employees here do not know how to bag groceries!! They literally just toss things into the bags no matter what it is. Today we bought a few jars of baby food and the cashier tossed them in the bag so carelessly on top of the other food in the bag that when we got home 3 out of the 10 yogurts we bought had punctured lids!
