Today we bought a few jars of baby food and the cashier tossed them in the bag so carelessly on top of the other food in the bag that when we got home 3 out of the 10 yogurts we bought had punctured lids! Don't do regular shopping here since but because I travel doing sales to hospitals I do get lunches and coffee here all the time. The grocery, produce and bakery areas look nice and prices are way better than Whole Foods. Their proteins are redonkulously priced but still Whole Foods quality at MUCH lower prices. When comparing to other Wegmans, I'm a fan, when comparing to other grocery stores, they got nothin' on this place, it's as good as it gets! The 120K sq ft store lacks the shelf space of some of their other (larger) stores, which means less product on the shelf, meaning less variety. For instance. You can buy Wegmans whole kernel corn by the case (at a case price), but not creamed corn. I also miss the "loft" or 2nd floor some of the other stores have. That was a bit disappointing, but enough of the negative stuff. What I loved about it: Salt Potatoes! Zweigles White Hots! The Pub! (Haddock Fish Fry!) Empire Apples! Fresh produce! Fresh Meat! Competitive pricing! Beer Selection! Wine Selection! (think Total Wine) I could go on and on about things I could not otherwise get unless I went back to my home town near Rochester. Travelers.... do yourself a favor when driving 64 and stop at wegmans! So many times you are driving and you need a quick stop off the highway to get something to eat and use the restroom. You get in the habit of getting fast foods or subs that you really don't want.... do yourself a favor and stop at this wegmans located right off 64. I was able to get in and out with ease. I was able to use a clean restroom and grab a package of fresh sushi! Talk about a win! I was beyond happy. Also if you are traveling with a larger group there is something for everyone! Park near the marketplace and you can go straight in and out without entering the main grocery store. I will be making wegmans a new roadside stop in the future and I highly recommend it to anyone who is traveling! read more

use to love now nothing but issues anymore. trying to get two large cakes and couldn't get anybody on the phone for bakery and on the phone it says to use the website for orders. site will not allow me to choose Charlottesville location so no cake from wegmans. also last 3 times in town on a Sunday and thought it would be quick and easy to grab a bite at wegmans and grab a few groceries. each time the lines were outrageous and the self check outs do not take cash!? many customers complained and the employees were admitting that the checkout sy is a mess that they get tons of complaints about. when you have all your items in your hand and it still takes at least 15 min for check out is ridiculous. since wegmans doesn't have the cake it use to on the shelf I can't walk in and buy , I can't all and order or go online and order and the shopping and check out is crap so I'm done forever at wegmans , like many things it started good but went downhill and I'm over it. read more

I live in Orlando, so not super familiar with it. It seems to straddle the line between a Whole Foods and high end grocery store. So there is lots of prepared foods that all look pretty fancy and gourmet but there is a lot of conventional food and items here (hot wheels were selling for less than a $1, my son is a collector so I look at a lot of them so places sell for less than a $1 and some places go for $1.50) and decent prices. If I was in town longer would love to spend more time poking around and eating a meal there. read more

Unpopular opinion: I'm not in love with Wegmans. It is way too big and overwhelming. Maybe it's because I didn't grow up with it and have only known small town-sized grocery stores. Regardless, the Hot Bar food isn't any better than Whole Food's, yet they charge ~50 cents more. The vegan cookie options aren't comparable either: I'd rather have a large chocolate chip cookie or oatmeal cookie at Whole Foods than a small peanut butter or molasses cookie here. Seriously, who are these cookies catering to? The prices on their regular groceries are also higher than at Kroger. I honestly only came here for the Apple Bee Free Honey and to venture into a new part of town. I will admit, I do love stopping by the Wegmans on 29 for coffee though. I would rate it as "Who knows? I personally don't appreciate the sign by the door where the CEO is recommending to "never think of yourself, only help other people" You can't help other people if your basic needs aren't met as a general rule of thumb. If I am unable to do a task for myself why would I try and do it for someone else? It reminds me of the concept of when on an airplane put your own oxygen mask on before helping others, because you can't help others if you're dead. Also their patio furniture is grossly overpriced, it looks like the same stuff from Big Lots (I shop there, I am not saying anything negative about them) however it's the same stuff just marked up a lot of %. I understand that's how businesses make profit, but I'd consider that "high way robbery" which doesn't seem like the CEO is helping the average person. Followed the guidance to contact the store directly regarding hours of operation... but after driving across town, found the staff of the sub shop decided to unapologetically close 45 mins early, and nearly 2 hours before the store was set to close. Wegmans opened last weekend, but so far they're off to a great start. Their opening (while packed) went smoothly. All of their staff that I've interacted with has been very friendly and knowledgable about their area of expertise (cheese, produce, butcher, etc). The store is huge. There's a massive prepared food section on the right when you enter and a restaurant. On the left there's an amazing beer, cider and wine section. They also have a fantastic bulk food section. They obviously have all of the regular grocery staples as well being a grocery store. My biggest issue so far is that while they have a wide variety of products they're missing some key offerings within brands that they do stock. I'm planning on submitting a request for a few things so I'll update this when I find out if that's something they'll entertain. A week in, I've been there three times (I live nearby). The store is always spotless, and everything is always stocked which is impressive considering the foot traffic they're getting. I'm really excited for this store to become a little less swamped in a few months when it's no longer a tourist destination. read more

I absolutely love this place. In fact- I think I am a bit of a Wegmans addict. I've been here several times and it just opened at the beginning of this month. But I've spent good money on good groceries and great sushi here, and I'll continue to do so week after week I'm sure. The great things about Wegmans is you can find pretty much anything there. They've got a fantastic selection of meats, seafood, prepared foods, craft beer, wine, organic foods, gluten free, deli meats and cheeses, and well, pretty much everything. I also love the Wegmans brand of food because the quality is great. I've especially enjoyed their brand of gluten free pizza crusts! I definitely do most of my grocery shopping here now, and the only reason it gets four stars for me is that it is just SO HUGE, a bit overwhelming, and crowded most days as well. Wegmans is a great grocery chain and this store is no exception. Pros: The produce and meat are always fresh and the staff are very helpful. Good selection of products like bread, yogurt, tea bags and many others. The wine selection cannot be beat and there is plenty of parking. Cons: The people at the deli meat counter can be slow and seem disorganized, but they are very nice. The milk and dairy section doesn't have a big selection of brands, but you can always find milk, half & half, butter of some sort. Lastly, the store can be very loud. While it's great that they are busy, the ceiling seems low and there is no where for sound to go. I usually come out of Wegman's feeling like I just went to concert. read more

I used to love shopping at Wegmans. But in the past 3 months, I have noticed a significant raise in prices. Our bills used to hover around $100-$110, but now we can't get out of there without spending $150. I know it's not us, because we meal plan and aren't buying anything extra. Next, this is the third time in three months that we have gotten bad chicken. It's extremely chewy and tough, but other pieces of chicken in the same package are fine. I rarely come to Wegmans to do my groceries because their prices tend to be way higher. Kroger has comparable fresh produce but for a much lower price. I come here mostly because they have interesting products, stuff I would never buy but are fun to look at. Their cakes and pastries are beautiful, but also really expensive. The wine selection, however, is on point! I love the way Wegmans organizes their wines into different rows based on country of origin. I love Spain wines, so it makes wine shopping a lot easier for me. There is so much wine to pick from! I can easily spend half an hour looking through wines. The prices are also really good! For less than $10, I got a 2006 Gran Reserva Tempranillo, and it was probably the best wine I've gotten from a grocery store. I'm no wine expert, but I can assure you that you'll find something you like at Wegmans! I also got a free four bottle wine bag with my purchase. If you're into more expensive wines, Wegmans also has a room for the fine wines. Other than the wines, everything else is pretty comparable to other grocery stores. The Wegmans brand ice cream is pretty good. Overall though, I find Wegmans simply too expensive and only come here to buy stuff if I happen to be shopping for wines. I've been a big fan of Wegmans in other cities and was over-the-moon thrilled when one was planned for Charlottesville. All the anticipation and what a disappointment. So many things wrong with this one, but I'll list the biggest disappointments. - Instead of the seafood kit-bar where it was an intimate experience, they built a pub in this one. When I want to go to a pub, it sure as heck isn't in a grocery store, I'm not sure why they decided it would be good for this market. The offerings were ok, but the cold lighting and lack of a cozy feel was just not good enough for a repeat. The atmosphere missed the mark for making it a truly good gathering spot. - In all other Wegmans I've been in, they have a fabulous second level where you can take your prepared foods to eat and hang out. It's away from the mayhem on the store floor and it provides a great sanctuary for grabbing a meal. At this one - it's all adjacent to the quick checkout and on the way to the bathroom, it was too open, noisy and busy to enjoy a meal. Don't get me started on how many people bumped my chair walking through the area. And this area is right outside of the pub, which has windows so you get to watch them eat and vice versa. - The layout of the quick check out. Seriously? You design a queue system where people have to line up directly in the flow of people moving in and out of the store - and instead of making separate checkout lanes, it's a long counter where you can't maneuver around people with baskets or gaggles of kids. The bottom line is when you combine a bunch of shoppers gawking at the size and selection in the store, poor layout with choke points, lighting that doesn't add warmth, and questionable choices for eating spaces, it just doesn't make a good experience. So disappointed Wegmans. Not worth my time across town. read more

It is an okay store if you like very overpriced food. Whole Foods is even cheaper. The seating areas were always dirty on the three times I went there. Their staff and managers just look at you of you ask a question so they are quite preoccupied with something else on their thoughts. They are too "Northern" for the South. Have you ever been to a store when the employees seem to just go out of their way to help you any way they can (and not in an annoying way either). They seem to know what you want or need before you do?! Wegmans is the best, I am a new fan! They are clean, they have everything (accept one area for teas...I had to search as they were dispersed throughout the store...only complaint). Their coffee selection was the bomb (I love you Counter Culture Coffee), and like I said prior, their staff was so incredible! That alone would bring me back again! I had never heard of Wegmans before moving to VA from TX and I love it!! Compared to the only option in my town, they have so much more selection and with many things, I have found them to be cheaper. I like that their meats are locally sourced. I also like their selection of natural and organic products. It's bonus that there are several places to eat in the store so it does not have to be a rushed trip or at a certain time with younger kids. The store is always clean and the staff have always been friendly. Everything is automatic in the restrooms, so no need to touch anything. The only thing I would change is some of the layout. With the health foods section right in the middle, the other isles are split up and I find myself going back and forth a lot if I missed something. I love shopping here and it ties H-E-B for my favorite grocery store! read more

Wegmans is outstanding. Their store brands are better quality and cheaper than national brands the vast majority of the time. This is coming from someone who worked for two retail suppliers in marketing and sales... If their store brand is more expensive it's usually due to better quality. The bakery, pharmacy, deli, cold cut dept, meat dept, sea food dept, and so on are top notch. Both the products and employees. Wegmans how are your employees so happy? They must pay well, put something in the water, and pump extra oxygen into the store.. Don't be overwhelmed by the 2,000+ varieties of cheese they carry - just ask an associate for help and BOOM, you've got a personal shopper! I've done this multiple times before entertaining. Hannah Shaps in the cheese dept. should be an assistant buyer for cheese, tomorrow... The cheeses are organized well to make the variety manageable. Although I don't drink much wine (my wife's specialty ;))- I do know they compete on price for some SKUs with the largest wine seller in the world, Costco. Alamos Malbec for $7.28? Y'all are crazy... Their prepared meals you take home and bake are on point. Interesting as well - lamb, variety of good sea food dishes, low country boil, etc. Beer selection is great and prices are the lowest I've seen in town on average across the board. My only ask would be a Click and Pick Up option. Wegmans would be the only retailer I could see actually executing this well (in terms or selecting best meat, produce, bread and not giving you what they need to get rid of before it expires, lookin at you Kroger..). I'd even pay a little extra for the option and for them to keep track of my reusable bags. Wegmans sometimes doesn't have every possible item (whipped frosting for cakes for example), but that's a distant thought compared to what is available and the employees. The company purposefully has what's considered too many registers open at one time compared to the rest of the industry. You do you, Wegmans... Don't shop at Wegmans. Wegmans went from peer-pressure-dumb to insulting with the addition of a small yellow chain. This happens at the register where the latest hoop to jump through is a piece of yellow chain that prevents you from continuing through the line until you push your basket under the chain. Then you're expected to swipe your card and enter a PIN in the card reader that remains on the other side of the chain, as you try to contort your way between the sneeze guard and the chain just to accomplish this once simple task. I'm not the contortionist I used to be and the card reader doesn't swivel so accessing your method of payment can be very awkward and for me, somewhat painful as it is with most people with even minor physical limitations. I fully understand "Security Theater" which is exactly what this is and which most adults understand as well. But now Wegmans has gone beyond that and has added "Insult to Injury" by thinking their customers are this gullible and taking the customers for granted in the process. Wegmans has decided that they don't want or need my business, and I've decided that I don't want or need their further insults. I am perfectly willing to spend my money elsewhere where I might get some amount of appreciation and respect for my business, and not insulted by being treated like I'm a willing participant to this latest idiocy. There are so many good things about Wegmans. Now that the newness has worn off, some of the not so good things are more apparent. I love all their fresh vegetables and fruit! I think their bread and pastry department is superior. It is very well written and the bread and pastries are always fresh and delicious! I do like Wegmans brand on a lot of things and find the prices to be competitive. But do you find the meats to be overpriced and not as good as some other places for the price. What bothers me the most is the prepared foods! The Asian inspired bar is good when it's fresh it is very expensive but I don't mind when it's fresh. Recently I went in there and the Asian hot bar was much to be desired. The noodles were dried up, and a lot of the meats and vegetables were overcooked and not as appetizing as they should've been. If you're going to charge these high prices it should be of optimum quality. Maybe when it gets down low and time goes on in the evening you could lower the price? Just a thought! There have been several times when I have gone to Wegmans over Food Lion and haven't found some rather simple items! So even though it is large sum of the basic choices aren't always there! Knowing that a Wegmans was on the way may have played into our decision to move to Charlottesville. I'm so glad they decided to invest in the south side of the city (where we live!), which went from food desert to food mecca after Wegmans opened last fall. I think what makes Wegmans generally superior to other grocery chains is the staff. Each employee I encounter is legitimately helpful (asking me what I need before I have to approach them), knowledgeable about the products (particularly some of the exotic offerings), and friendly. I also love that I can use the Wegmans app to find what aisle a product is in. What sets this location apart from other Wegmans I've been to (in New York) is that it is larger and newer. I think the flow of the store makes sense. The produce section is huge and has fun stuff like veggie noodles, a great selection of bulk mushrooms, and fancy fruit from all over the world. The cheese area is to die for and also has a bulk section for things like olives and pesto. The alcohol section is large and has a dedicated area for cider and local brews. I do wish that there was more variety within some product categories. There's a lot of Wegmans brand products (some is good, some is not), but I'm missing some of my favorite other brands. The bulk food section is substantial with candy, nuts, dried fruit, etc. and the hot food area has a good variety of comfort food, fruit, Asian dishes, soup, and more. This store has been mailing out great coupons every week since it opened, but even if that stops, I'll keep going for sure. I go multiple times per week and have yet to have a bad experience, and compared to my alternative (Kroger), the products are the same or higher quality for about the same prices. read more

Wegmans has a mind-blowing selection of food (especially cheese, which I love). However, I am not a fan of how the store is organized. It seems to be divided into "healthy" sections and "organic" sections and "allergen" sections which actually can make it confusing when I am looking for something in particular. Often the same item will be in three different areas, which can make it hard to compare brands. As far as the prices go, it is hard to find cheap meat, so I avoid buying steak and chicken here. For everything else, Wegmans does have some very expensive foods, but they also have more reasonably priced options as well. I tend to stick to the Wegmans brand items, which have been very high quality thus far. I also use the Wegmans pharmacy and the staff has been very helpful and efficient. The store can be very crowded at times, but I love that they are open until midnight so that I can shop when it is less crowded. The parking lot is also very well lit so I feel safe shopping late at night. read more

I just visited the store. It has a very good selection with some difficult to find items. The person at the checkout seemed to have a difficult time. She charged us twice for an item when we only had 13 items in our cart. I realize this can happen, but it is frustrating when purchasing so few items and should've been caught at the checkout by the employee. I didn't realize it until we were in the car. I am disappointed with the level of training and customer service of those working at this store. read more

Very disappointed in the customer service of this store. Their deli department closes down several times a day to clean all of the machines. Even if you want something pre-cut they will not help you. Why do they clean all of the machines at once. In addition, even when there are several customers in line, there are only a few associates that will help. Others just stand around talking. Also, their butcher refuses to cut fresh meat for you. I was told that he did not have time to cut porterhouses fir me because he had other things to do that would take a lot of time and that I could come back later. I have talked to management about these issues on several occasions and they only make excuses for their employees instead of prioritizing customers. Why do they have an in store butcher if he doesn't have time to serve customers? I did contact corporate so we shall see if they do anything to improve service.
