Food and service are great . My only and consistent complaint is that the bathrooms are often unsanitary and dirty. I went there during the first week of August 2026. The extra large toilet paper rolls were on top of the dispenser instead of in the dispenser. So everyone had to lift the roll, which often fell on the floor and everyone's hands was on the next person' toilet paper. To me that is just lazy and shows a disrespect for customers. In the past when I have shopped at Giants I have went to the front desk and complained but no permanent changes are ever made. So although I like Giant's foods and workers, I try not to shop there as often because the bathrooms can easily spread germs. It appears that they may be cleaned at best, once a day. Yuk, yuk, yuk. read more

I usually shop here but no longer. The shelves on some aisles while many shelves had HUGE bare spots. The store was packed with personnel who should be stocking the shelves (boxes were everywhere), but were conversing with one another. The egg shelves were barren... almost no selection. Same situation with the cream cheese. There were two cashiers for checkout. I made the mistake of getting in line with the worst cashier ever... my groceries were throw. Into my 2 big totes. I had to ask cashier for her to put them in my cart because they were so heavy. It was a nightmare! read more

Pretty large and well stocked store. I ran into some issues with applying my Giant rewards/coupons at self checkout, and employees were super helpful in helping me resolve it! They have a few end caps (dairy, frozen) with discounted products that are damaged or close to expiration which are great if on a budget! read more

I used to like Giant very much. A couple of years ago they decided to close their butcher shops and pre-package the meat. The beef isn't fresh or flavorful anymore. I'll still buy other products, but it's now the worst store to buy beef out of all the choices. It's all Giant Food stores; not just this one. read more

I used to shop exclusively at Giant stores. I still use the Pharmacy for prescriptions needed immediately. I have never had a problem with any Rx. I also get my vaccinations at Giant. Never had a problem with any staff members. I switched to Food Lion about 25 years ago because the prices and selection were better. Now I shop at Giant only occasionally, but still have no problem whatsoever with staff or product quality. I do use Express Checkout whenever I can. read more

This is usually a good store with great service. Convenient and clean. I had a bad experience today though. I was returning my cart and an employee getting carts walked past me to retrieve a cart from another person who was further behind me. Then walked right by me again. Very rude. I am not sure what can be done- without causing an uproar about ethnicity. read more

Mediocre Not as stocked up as many other places I've been to. It's certainly pricer than other grocery stores in the area. I don't know, there's just not UMPH factor behind Giant. Why would I recommend this place over Kroger, which is pretty much always fully stocked and has a superior deli, produce, and meat section? Not to mention Kroger has the discounts on several food items and GASOLINE. I was talking about Giant, right? Look, it's not bad, but I only go here if I'm in a hurry. read more

I just had such a great encounter with LISA in the bake shop! I wanted Gingerbread cookies for adults and grands to decorate themselves. Since they needed to be transported to northern VA...we decided on frozen ones and Lisa explained exactly how to bake them! She boxed them carefully and put the label on just one box so handling was easier for me. Lisa was helpful, pleasant and eager to help me. Thank you, Lisa and thank you, Giant in Charlottesville. read more

Yelp really needs a 'zero' star rating. One is far too generous for Giant. The people are uncaring and surly. Somewhere along the way someone 'poisoned the well' and seemingly everyone drank from the same well. When other stores in the area seem well staffed the reason for a single checkout open is 'we're understaffed'. It's time to get over that and get moving again. And the self checkout is now limited to just 20 items. It makes you wonder if people would buy less or go elsewhere. The answer is 'go elsewhere'. read more

BEST GIANT EVER. Oh Pantops Giant, how I love you so. Biggest grocery store in Cville, most selection at the best prices. Clean, bright, spacious store, high ceilings. Extensive plant and seafood sections. Healthy and organic foods-- try the Nature's Promise brand. This Giant is located at the top of the mountain also knows as Pantops, in the Rivanna Ridge Shopping Center. Ample parking, great views of Charlottesville and the valley. Time your departure with the sunset. read more

Maybe it was just because I don't go to this store often, but I felt the setup was hard to figure out and it took me forever to get around the store and find what I needed. There was friendly service at checkout, but what really turned me off is that the deli workers were arguing, I mean literally arguing. I thought a fight might break out behind the counter. It just seemed really unprofessional that there was drama outwardly visible. I did like the large organic/ gluten free section, but other spaces in the store seemed overcrowded/ unorganized. I also felt prices weren't great. read more

Again because we have to give a star, I have to put something down; Yelp needs a button that means does not even deserve one star... This review is for the Pharmacy - the store is clean as detailed below and has a good selection of food; especially sushi believe it or not. BUT, the management overall is not the best and the Pharmacy is absolute night mare - if there is a hell, it might just be the Giant Pharmacy: OMG!!!! This pharmacy is an absolute abhorred nightmare!!!! For the past year and a half or so I have listened to my mother describe the nightmarish experiences with this pharmacy... although they will blame everything on the computers and the 'new system', there is also some degree of intelligence, logic, and sensibility that should take over or back fill that weakness... I myself have witnessed it three times now, and with the recent death of my father, a mother who is a total wreck and dealing with her own health and financial issues, my patience has worn thin and I am now on a rampage! To list a few of the problems... 1- they will call her at home, tell her she has four prescriptions ready, she asks which ones, and how much, they tell her, she drives in (it's about a 15-20 minute drive) only to get there and some flippy girl who wears tight jeans/leggings, and shirts that don't even cover her belly says she can only find one... my mother says, no, you have three more... she turns around and glances at the bins... nope, I don't see anymore... so after a few back and forths here, someone else comes out and says what's the problem... my mother tells him, you all called and said there were four, she can only find one.. And he says, oh, did you look here... and of course, she hadn't... and had no intention of putting forth any effort to look. 2- my mother is being charged for things she shouldn't be paying for... 3- they NEVER have enough - EVERY SINGLE TIME she needs a refill, they say they only have three to five day's worth which means she has to make a wasted trip, go to get a couple day's worth, go home, then go back ... 4- she, or the doctor's office call in prescriptions but when she goes into get the next day or a couple days later, it's not filled and they give us a number and we have to wait- so why call ahead!? UGH! 5- my mother has fibromyalgia- this makes it hard for her to open things so she has note on her file that they NOT use childproof caps yet EVERY TIME she gets a refill; childproof caps... 6- the new prescription bottles- oh my goodness the labels have been redone in such a way that the writing is so small you almost need a magnifying glass to be able to make it out - and that's IF they don't cover up the instructions on the bottle with the labels they put on. 7- I believe the little counter girl there that doesn't wear clothes that fit once even got in a debate with my mother trying to tell her that all pharmacies charge the same for drugs... uh, no, they don't little girl... ESPECIALLY when one is a victim of the system and on Medicare... you can ONLY get your scripts filled at pre-approved locations and if you don't use them, they hike the price. SMH, please hire someone more knowledgeable and proficient. My poor mother; every time she goes in, there is an issue... and with her current frame of mind and state of compromise, she often leaves in tears b/c it is so stressful- literally. And this last time I witnessed it was the last draw. We are going to try and get her in the prescriptions by mail program; maybe that will help but one thing is for sure, we will be leaving this pharmacy the minute we see a chance. As for customer service, they either give you attitude, or apologize and say, we'll tell so and so, the manager... whatever; nothing ever gets done. read more

Love. Fruit is devine. Self check out is lovely and efficient. Environment makes me feel safe and warm. BBQ chips on Fleek

They redid the site a few months ago and expanded the natural foods section which is great and they have a wonderful selection of items along with an entire gluten free section. Produce is typically good, not really any local... Farmers markets and IY are much better for that, and I've found that whole foods has the best prices and selection for fresh poultry but giant is a good grocery store. There have been a few periods of time since they built the store that they have been open 24 hours and I wish they still were. But overall, the staff is friendly and helpful and they have good sales. read more

We were on way to Western Virginia from Richmond and stopped by at this Gaint stores for buying some milk and juice. We were shocked to see a price tag of $8.19 for 2% Organic milk and $4.49 for Orange Juice (House Brand). We had to buy these out of necessity (I have attached a receipt) and didn't have time to go other stores. I consider this VERY high as compared to market prices or even convenient stores. They need to make pricing for ESSENTIAL products such as these more reasonable. I give this store a low grading for product pricing on Google and other websites. A bad experience in these times and stores like this are not helping curb inflation and price gouging and are a party to it. read more

I would have communicated this issue directly to Giant Food in Pantops however their website makes no accommodation for customer contact. I have come to accept that when purchasing packaged meat that most stores will not have the undesirable side visible. However when I purchase premium meat, specifically Giant's Fillet Mignon Roast at $16.99 per pound I expect a good cut of meat. That was not my recent experience and half of the roast had to be discarded. I learned my lesson and will only purchase meat at Wegmans. read more

Great staff , clean store and good prices . A great basic food store ! I shop the ads each week and find that I can save with their sales and their double coupons . Beautiful produce department ... 5 different employees were not wearing masks at all or had them under their chins. Even the employee at the manager's desk up front (who wore oxygen!) had her mask off, under her chin. There was an air of defiance about it all. I felt VERY unsafe in that store. Also, prices were high and selection very poor. I'll stick with Wegman's. read more

The store itself is clean, bright, and the people professional. I try to buy only healthy/natural foods and found myself challenged in this store. I noticed high fructose corn syrup in the "natural" jams (Smuckers), "natural" cereals (Great Grains), Giant brand yogurt, "natural 15 grain breads" (Arnold's), etc. Corn syrup is really unhealthy and poor dietary practice is one reason so many Americans have health problems and die early. I wouldn't search through all the foods labelled "natural" if I wanted foods containing unhealthy ingredients. I'll try out next other natural foods stores in the area, which are pricier. read more

All around great mid-level grocery store. Last few months they really have lowered their prices and are competitive with every other chain I go into in the cville area. Definitely a place you can get in and out of easily and do your own thing with no big obstacles. Store does seem pretty cold sometimes but I can deal with it considering the good prices and it being a clean store and well stocked. Also has a decent healthy food section and produce section. Furthermore it has 6 self checkout lanes which is always nice and quick. If you are looking to be waited on hand and foot and constantly need employees asking to assist you this is not the place for you but if you want good prices, selection, and a clean store then I definitely recommend this place. If you easily get cold though just bring an extra layer in with you. read more

Clean grocery store with everything you need and friendly employees, but the prices are pretty high. Also, I typically try to save money by buying some store-brand products. However, everything I've tried so far from the Giant brand has been disgusting. Not just bad, but disgusting. I live close by, so I will shop here if I'm in a pinch, but I find that I can save a lot more money by shopping for the things I need elsewhere. read more

I love this store - I drive clear across town to use the pharmacy, as it is simply the BEST in Charlottesville. the pharmacists are professional, courteous, and always figure out a way to help us, even when there is a problem with a prescription (as there inevitably will be). I feel that the people at Giant are part of my network. Also, the baked goods at Giant are absolutely the best - the pies, cakes, bread, french bread, etc. are better than you will find in a dedicated bakery. read more
