Nestled along the beautiful Manatee Pocket, nearly every table has a waterfront view to watch the boats going by. The decor "inside" (it's a nearly all outdoor restaurant by the way) is classic Florida; I am always amused by the hurricane water level lines! Even the walk up into the restaurant is a boardwalk ramp (accessibility for the win!) The staff is always friendly there and service is consistent with the speed of getting things in my recollection over the years, even if it's packed. Food wise, Shrimper's has this bread that is just incredible and I can't exactly describe the flavor. I think it's a rosemary and poppy seed bread but I would pay money for their bread recipe. It's that good. I don't think you can get it anywhere else. My typical dinner choice is definitely on the "turf" side, where I like to get the Philly cheesesteak or some kind of pasta dish. This time I went with the pasta primavera, which was new on the menu. I added blackened chicken on top. The veggie quantity was good, and I liked how there was a lot of artichoke, which is more unique for a primavera. Anyhoo, I currently live about 1000 miles away from Shrimpers so I'm not there too often anymore but I always look forward to my next visit!

And the price for happy hour I thought were excellent! Beer was five dollars and my Pinot Noir was only seven and a nice pour! My husband ordered the grilled Caesar salad, which was on happy hour so it was 30% off. And I happen to have a 20% off coupon that was handed to me during a jammin in Jensen. They let us use it on anything that wasn't already discounted for happy hour which we were appreciative of. I ordered the beet salad which did not disappoint beautifully, roasted golden beets, paired with Barada and candied pecans and arugula.! it was a good size salad and I ended up bringing some home! It was delicious! We then split the Mattie burger, which is a double Waygu Patty with two kinds of cheese and an onion, jam and homemade pickles, and a beautifully toasted sesame seed bun! It comes normally with duck fat fries, but we were trying to be more health conscience so they substituted roasted carrots with broccolini and garlic, which were absolutely perfect! Because it was a double patty it was more than enough to share! And they took the 20% off of that as well with my coupon! We both had one more drink! And ended up bringing leftovers home even though everything was so good. We were so full. There also seems to be some confusion about whether they're still open, but they absolutely are, and based on our visit, they're definitely worth checking out. According to the website, reservations are necessary. However, it took a while for me to make them because the online software kept saying I was too early to make them. I called and left a message twice but never received any return call. We almost considered not going, and we were not asked about our reservations (that I was finally able to make online). We arrived when they opened at noon (on a weekday), and other than one other table that arrived soon after us, we were the only ones there until we left a little over an hour later. Still, this place wasn't full, so I'm not sure about the hype concerning the need for reservations. There was only 1 server, who was very friendly and helpful but seemed overly busy. It looked as if a manager might have wandered in and out briefly. The kitchen is open, so there was a bit of noise coming from there. This place is not very large. The food was very good. We both enjoyed the soup. I had the Southwestern veggie, which was the soup of the day. It was very spicy, but I was able to tone it down with some sour cream. We shared the Margarita flatbread. It was very good. The tomatoes were extra delicious. My date had the lobster and shrimp bisque and loved it. He also had the strip steak, which he ordered medium well, but it wasn't, more like medium rare. He had the brussel sprouts and potatoes as sides and really liked them. I had the Baja cod tacos, blackened, and I would definitely get them again but ask for the sauce to be on the side instead of drizzled everywhere but on the actual tacos. It was difficult to scoop it up and get it on my tacos. I also had a side of potatoes, and they were wonderful, thin layers with generous amounts of cheese. I took most of them home (we had lots of leftovers) and they reheated really well. We tried two desserts: a flourless chocolate cake and a carrot cake. The desserts were the only dishes we weren't impressed with. The chocolate cake was ho-hum, basically tasted like fudge. The carrot cake was 80% raisins and other dried fruit.
