I had to have significant structural work done on several decks. My house is on a hill, so some of…read morethe decks are very high off the ground. I had a structural engineer develop the plans, and I asked him for recommendations of contractors. He recommended Bill Tucker, so I hired him to do the work. Bill and his crew did a very good job. The work was grueling because they had to replace all of the supports to all but the lowest deck, and in doing so, they had to dig 5-foot deep holes for sonotubes, pour concrete, replace 16-foot posts, level and square the decks, and install proper brackets. Nearly all of the work was done by hand because they couldn't get a skid steer or other heavy equipment behind my house. The work was done to spec, and the improved sturdiness of the structure doesn't compare to what was there. As with most contractors, we had a couple of snafus. Communication was challenging at first, and I learned that the work would start the day before materials were delivered. The final cost was a third higher than the estimate, but to be fair, none of us knew how many new footings would have to be poured until the work was well underway. Bill is a good guy. He does what he says he will do, and he stands behind his work. I plan to hire him again for another job.
