I also recommend the following: 1. Add a penalty clause for work going past their original estimated completion date. In our case, the job took more than two months past their original completion date at great inconvenience. 2. Be very precise about everything you want, down to number of circuits, outlets, precise trim, etc. 3. Don't just discuss any extra work that might be needed, get a written estimate for your approval. They have a $55/hour charge for extra work. Ask for an exact accounting for how the $55 was allocated. Write in the contract that all extra charges that are over the original estimate must be approved *in writing*. Our final cost was almost 20% more than the original estimate.

Jason's interest is clearly not in the painting business but rather singing and playing in bands with his wife. I bought all the paint and delivered it to the house. The painter who came to paint missed areas on walls close to ceiling (ea area larger than a paint roller brush). When I pointed it out, the guy would say, "well it's only the first coat", and blew me off. So after the second coat, guess what: those 3 areas of different rooms, had only one coat. The painter used only one roller brush on the entire job. The walls were dusty and had not been painted in years. I was going to paint all the trim work so I told the painter if he rolled up against window trim it would be ok. Jason came to job on last day to collect payment. I was on my way to the house. On the phone I told Jason that I could not understand why I wasn't seeing bright white after 2 coats on the back bedrooms. Jason, ended up quitting on me over the phone and pulled his guy off the job. He left the deal without finishing 2nd coat on front room walls & ceiling, dining room ceiling, and 2nd coat on foyer ceiling and walls. He said he would adjust his bill price by discounting his bill by $100. I sent him a check and took off another $100 for the painting that was left undone. He received over $1,000.00 for painting (I bought all the paint) a vacant, small home, carpet ripped up, no window treatments, no hvac vents on walls/ floors. Only painted most walls and ceilings with the same cashmere white paint on everything (one roller). I knew early on that I would never use this company again. I repainted their entire work myself after I realized that sherwin williams brand called Cashmere in extra white does not give the same bright white as sherwin williams super paint extra white does. And they are supposed to be the professionals.

I never imagined I would be writing a review like this, but I believe other families deserve to…read moreknow about our experience with Hiester Construction. My father was 91 years old and had been diagnosed with dementia. Before this roofing project, his physician had determined that he lacked the capacity to make financial decisions, and an activated Power of Attorney was already in place. My sister personally spoke with Mr. Hiester and informed him that our father was not capable of making these types of financial decisions and that the family needed to be involved. Despite being told this, the project proceeded. Our family also informed Mr. Hiester that our father's health was declining and that he likely would not remain in the home for very long. Rather than discussing whether a less expensive repair or patch would meet his needs, he recommended a much more extensive roofing project. The roof that was installed was an overlay over the existing roof rather than a complete tear-off and replacement. Based on the work that was performed, our family believes the amount charged was excessive. Within just a few months, my father was hospitalized multiple times and ultimately moved into assisted living. Looking back, the money spent on this roofing project could have helped pay for the care he now needs. What has been most disappointing is the lack of accountability. Before posting this review, we made numerous phone calls and sent a certified letter asking Hiester Construction to discuss a fair resolution. Despite confirming receipt of our correspondence, no one responded. Because Hiester Construction chose not to communicate with our family, we are now filing complaints with the appropriate Illinois licensing authorities, consumer protection agencies, and elder protection agencies while seeking appropriate compensation. If you are considering hiring this company, especially if you are helping an elderly parent or loved one, I strongly encourage you.
