Staff never notified me that he suddenly became delirious until he fell and broke his hip, wearing DAYS old dirty clothes. This was caused by a simple UTI which never crossed their mind to check for. Its a common thing known to anyone in the medical field. One thing lead to another and he was sent back to the facility for hospice. Quail Creek only allows hospice companies of THEIR choice. The hospice is only allowed to take readings TWICE a day. They are not allowed to stay, not allowed to give pain medication, not allowed to give physical care, cleaning etc. They are allowed to take him to the funeral home though. Others issues and Quail Creeks response: 1. Patient falling out of the bed. Response: mats on the floor. 2. Not able to give pain meds once an hour. Response: increase dose and decrease when they see him. 3. Not cleaning Patient or checking he is still in bed or hasn't pulled out catheter. Response: changed the topic. 4. Nurse not remembering what the last med was that was given. Response: changed the topic. 5. Never gave Patient wet sponge to moisten lips and mouth. Response: changed the topic. 6. Nurse to busy watching TV to do duties. Response: changed the topic. If you are in the facility for some short term rehab, its prob fine. But if your loved life might experience end of life, be advised they may experience pain and suffering through neglect. And yes, we reported them to the STATE.

UPDATE: In my…read morefather's own words, "I am one happy old man." We believe him. The staff at Presbyterian Manor are so kind to him and support his desire to live as long as possible. ******************************************* Sadly, our family's satisfaction has dropped dramatically as our father's condition -- especially his hearing -- has declined. Last year, my mother-in-law moved into Sunrise La Costa in Carlsbad, CA. She pays almost exactly the same amount per month as our father does at Presbyterian Manor. The care at Sunrise is much better. Consider R, a male resident at Sunrise with hearing loss. R had been accustomed to sleeping all day, isolating and never wearing his hearing aids. Sunrise staff gently encouraged him to give his hearing aids a try and helped him clean, insert and store them. R is now more social, interacts with others and seems less miserable. By contrast, Presbyterian Manor treats dad's hearing aids as a patient's rights issue: "If he wants to go without his hearing aids, we can't force him." So dad sleeps all day, isolating and never wearing his hearing aids. It is sad to see a man of our father's intellect and education, declining cognitively and alone. Presbyterian staff is great, but we do not see eye to eye on hearing aids. Google cognitive decline and hearing loss for more information. In the words of my brother, our father's executor, "It's hard to travel so far to see him just to hear him say 'Huh?'..."

All have been disappointing for the most part. Thanksgiving, held Thursday, November 8 was the bottom of the dump. Everyone was in their reserved seats at about 5:10 but all staff stood and guarded the food (already setting out) until precisely 5:30. A very cynical-acting "chaplain" gave a prayer, then proceeded to patrol the tables like a nun. The unfriendly staff brought tiny bowls of food for us to share, included an absurd "salad" of a gimmicky carved-up strawberry, tomato , cucumber slice and shavings of carrot. Seriously? They almost instantly brought out amazingly tiny slices of pie. Then, just minutes aftert serving this, the still rude and unfriendly staff marched in line to grab all of the food and stampede into a private room where the pigged-out rather luxuriously, "chaplain" and all. A friend had to find them to ask about a coffee refill, and the staff seemed rather outraged. As we left, still hungry, the staff had left and forgotten a BOUNTY of remaining food which was meant for the paying residents and their guests. I've never felt less like a guest in my life. What a disgusting experience.

Unlike many other senior communities, Turners Rock is bright, contemporary, and impeccably clean. The floor plans are especially impressive, with spacious layouts and large bedrooms--something you rarely find in other senior living options around Springfield. But what truly sets Turners Rock apart is the warm, welcoming community and the exceptional staff. Brad, the director, is friendly, responsive, and genuinely devoted to the residents. The activity director, Will, is absolutely PHENOMENAL--charming, personable, and hilarious! He constantly goes above and beyond to keep residents engaged and entertained. One creative example: he prints "funny money" with residents' photos that they earn at activities and spend at a monthly auction. The Turners Rock driver, Lezlie, is incredible--she takes my mom to doctor's appointments and has even taken her shopping at the mall. She always goes the extra mile (pun intended!). My mom loves the variety of activities , events, and outings that Will plans. There are about six activities each day--like exercise classes, trivia, book club, Bible study, bingo, Wheel of Fortune, bocce ball, movies, and more. Residents can also take the shuttle bus for picnics, plays, movies, and restaurant outings. The on-site restaurant is contemporary and open for dining between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. (I believe). The servers know the residents by name and even remember many of their preferences. The menu offers plenty of options along with daily specials. Sometimes the chef even names dishes after residents, which is such a thoughtful touch. The desserts are always amazing, and family members often visit during meal times--just $7 for breakfast and $10 for lunch or dinner. My parents moved into the independent living section in October 2023. My dad later transitioned to the Memory Care Unit for a few months before he passed away. It was a huge relief for my mom to know he was safe and well cared for during that time. And he was just steps away, so my mom could easily visit him each day. I live in California and have stayed at Turners Rock seven times since my parents moved in. Knowing my mom is surrounded by friends and supported by such a compassionate, capable team brings me tremendous peace of mind. I'm so grateful to everyone at Turners Rock. 10/10 recommend!
