First time going there today and we bought three NY strips, come home to make them and find they are rotten. Unacceptable.

Small but nice variety of fresh pork and beef products. We were looking for, and found, pig souse,…read morescrapple, and meat pudding for our neighbor. She was very happy with her purchases.

As I was checking out the meat counter a worker came through the door where the butchers were busy cutting meat and was caring several pounds of sausage and then she opened up the meat case and placed the sausages in the case. She then went back to where the butchers were and came out again with a bunch of chuck roasts and did the same thing. She then went to the counter and wrang up some customers, then fixed her hair and then wiped her fingers over her nose. She did all of this while not wearing gloves. I looked around the store and noticed that nobody was wearing gloves. The door that was used for entering the butcher area and the store was extremely dirty. I purchased some sausage that was vacuumed sealed but I was hesitant. Upon getting checked out I mentioned to the girl behind the counter that I was going to pick up a bunch of steaks but after noticing that nobody were wearing gloves I thought not to and she just said " we try to use a bag when we take meat out of the case". I said that I didn't notice anyone doing that. I asked her " does your job get inspected and do they say anything about not wearing gloves while handling raw meat?" She said " yes we get inspected but they never say anything about gloves". No way would I purchase anything here. It looked very dirty and not sanitized. Where I'm from in Wisconsin they would never allow this.

It has not even been one year since my last review of Wagner's Meat in Mt. Airy. But Greek Easter…read morecomes when it comes so I made the trek out there to get my Easter lamb! I would never think of getting lamb anywhere else. I called up over a week ago, spoke with Roland, and ordered a nice young lamb's leg for my Easter feast. Roland made it happen! And Josh confirmed that Roland had made it happen when I called before I drove the hour and a half up there to pick up that leg of lamb! Truly, everyone I have ever talked to at Wagner's is so down to earth and friendly. When I walked in yesterday, the cashier engaged me in a polite and friendly conversation about the weather and how lucky I was that the store was not too crowded right then. That never happens in any food store in Washington DC! In an age where simply finding a butcher is difficult, it is a true joy to have Wagner's in my life. In addition to a beautiful leg of lamb, I got 2 pounds of deep red ground beef, some killer looking short ribs, a healthy order of center cut pork chops and some of the best frozen veggies I could ever hope for. How do I know those frozen veggies are great? Because I have gotten them before and the flavor is like sunshine on my tongue!!! Just like fresh picked with no additives or preservatives! Wagner's is the real deal. I wish I lived closer to this store but my doctor who watches my cholesterol like a hawk is probably glad I don't. Could I find meat as high quality and fresh as I get at Wagner's? I seriously doubt it. But the selection, pricing, ability to special order and shopping experience cannot be found for love or money in and around the DC area. I highly recommend Wagner's Meats!!!

My last review should have really been placed on the meat locker side I guess, but this time we…read morewent in for the fresh butcher meat. We left with chicken (whole and cut- ask for innards if you want them, they aren't included to pad the weight), steaks (ribeye and filet), pork chops (nice thick cut), meatballs, hamburgers. So far everything has been fantastic. I wish they were closer... and honestly, I'm not sure I can go back to store bought meat. Plenty of staff to help once you figure out that it's a person to help YoU not the line at that counter. They also sell fresh/ frozen local produce and game (berries, veggies, rabbit) and carry fresh eggs as well. Very happy, I wish I had more freezer space when we made the trip.

Galvinell Meat - old world Italian

TLDR: Galvinell Meat in Havre de Grace lives up to the hype. Massive, beautifully built hoagies,…read morefriendly staff, and a butcher counter full of unique house made offerings. Easily in the conversation for best hoagies in Maryland. This butcher has been on my short list for a while thanks to its recent fame in the Hoagie Gurus Facebook group, where their Old World Italian has become something of a legend. After finally making the trip, I can confidently say it deserves every bit of that buzz. We stopped in on a Saturday around lunchtime and the place had a steady flow of customers. My wife and I ordered the Old World Italian hoagie along with a hot roast beef and gravy grinder that was running as a special. While we waited, the staff was incredibly nice and helpful, and we took some time to browse their butcher case. Everything looked fantastic, and we ended up leaving with several packs of house made sausages that were too interesting to pass up, including a chicken crab cake sausage and a brisket cheddar. After a short wait, our subs were ready and they were both absolute units. Since they have a few two tops for the lunch crowd, we did not even make it to the car before digging in. The Old World Italian was exactly what I hoped for. Piled high with Italian meats and cheeses, sharp provolone, roasted red peppers, and prosciutto, all served on a sturdy yet soft seeded roll. The meats were perfectly layered so every bite was balanced and flavorful. No dead spots, no overwhelming salt bombs, just a beautifully constructed hoagie. The hot roast beef grinder was equally impressive. Freshly shaved beef, rich gravy, and melted provolone came together in a way that felt indulgent without being heavy. Comfort food done right. Between the quality of the sandwiches, the welcoming staff, and the incredible butcher offerings, Galvinell Meat is a destination. It is absolutely worth the drive and firmly belongs in any serious Maryland hoagie conversation.

They have fresh meats including some frozen options for those not necessarily purchasing for the day of. We opted for the Italian sub and the hot roast beef and we did plan to eat this later but for the best chance tried it when we got it and both were delicious!! We also purchased some frozen options of various sausages and fresh sausages. I also highly recommend their crisp Apple ice tea! They do also offer some tables so if you choose to eat there you can! The staff were also super friendly! Would visit again!
