He charged $400 for this. I was shocked. Foam will compress after time and I assumed he would use a better material. I called him to discuss, and he said he was sorry I felt this way. The frame and woodwork on these chairs was in very good condition, but the upholstery was a tapestry look that was worn and had tears. I wanted these chairs to be renewed but without destroying their late 1800s character. I opted for a green velvet. I was confident that Mary would take good care of these chairs when she saw them and got excited about the restoration. These chairs turned out beautiful - Mary restored the springs, batting and straps to preserve the firm but comfortable seating. The velvet and piping work are beautiful. We refused to pay this additional cost and asked that our furniture be returned. After months of promising to return it he surprised us be saying the repairs had been made. Upon returning the furniture, almost a year later he proceeded to tell us he would not recommend sitting in the furniture because it may not hold. I told him if I had known this I would not have had him do any of the work, which I also told him not to do. After i complained he changed his tune to say it would be okay to sit in. I am completely disappointed with this whole event and certainly will not be using him again.
