Fantastic falafel! Veggie and vegan friendly with fast service and great food at a good price (about £5 for most). Outside seating, takes cards. Make sure you check out the specials.

    Falafel and Halloumi wrap

Definitely the best falafel I've had. Staff are friendly, there's a range of options to choose from, from normal falafel to beetroot and even pumpkin falafel! I went for the falafel and Halloumi wrap, which was toasted, full of flavour and just delicious. As Jessie mentioned in her review; I also find falafel to be pretty dry but this was lovely and moist, really flavourful! We love Falafel would get five stars on the falafel alone; however there isn't much of a seating area and it lacks ambience slightly. Perfect for takeout though!

In my very humble opinion Smorl's make the very best falafel in Brighton & Hove. The falafel are freshly cooked, delicious, crispy chickpea balls of delight, dotted with zingy coriander seeds and other tasty herbs and spices. You can get them on their own, served in a pita bread with your choice of Houmous and other dips, or you can opt for the lunchbox, which is my recommendation. With the lunchbox you get falafel, bulgar wheat salad, slaw, salad leaves, houmous, tatziki, babaganoosh, tahini, toasted seeds', Parmesan polenta balls and other delicious dips. It is absolutely delicious - so much so that I've been back for lunch every week since I discovered Smorl's. That's how good they are. Highly recommended.

The extra thing turned out to be my favourite although I didn't fancy peas. Every bite was so tasty and different from each other. You can tell they use good ingredients. Not greasy at all, with lots of zingy taste. I highly recommend as I wasn't into it and ended up a fan! Must be good then.

Two aisles of fresh looking (and I can only assume) local produce are set up in the centre, dividing the shop into two halves. One had basic groceries and last-minute needs; milk, cereal, cans of soup, etc; as well as home supplies like kitchen towel, soaps and batteries. There's an offsale section near the back, with a modest selection of wines and ales. The other side of the shop is basically just for sweets - and there's a lot. Candies, cookies, chocolate bars and chips are really about half of the items for sale here. A small cooler displays pre-packaged sandwiches for quite cheap - 99p gets you a sandwich and apple or banana deal. I'm not sure whether that was just a holiday deal, but it's worth a look. The two shopkeepers were friendly and helpful, offering to help me find anything as I looked around. As convenience stores go, this one is quite impressive.

With so many corner shops in the area, its good to know there are places that aren't adding massive card charges and offer fresh fruit and veg: unheard of in most corner shops, I would imagine! Being on the same street as Farm and Bills, I can see why Go Local has gone for the fresh, local produce: the whole area is a local produce Mecca. Undercutting the competition as the cheap option, as well as offering regular corner shop goods, is a fantastic move by this little corner shop, and one I applaud. Almost a grocers/corner shop, the selection is cheap and perfectly good quality: nothing on Bills, but a fraction of the price. The fact that you can buy cigarettes and booze as well, not to mention organic chocolate and regular corner shop staples, is just a bonus. Go Local has become my corner shop of choice when I travel through the Laine, and I can only recommend a visit if you're traveling through the area. In the end, it is a corner shop: it won't have everything in stock that you're looking for and hasn't the clean, corporate allure of the nearby Co-Ops and Tesco Expresses. Still, if you like to go local, the clue's in the name really: stop in here instead.

Most other joints on the seafront and western road seemed pretty empty. Even the newly opened Jetty was a bit desolate. Folks seem to identify the food as a bunch different things, but the waiting staff definitely knew what was going on with persian dishes and names. We ordered the koobideh, a seasoned and marinated ground lamb dish served over rice with grilled tomatoes. As a side order, a gentle garlic yoghurt (mast maseer, they stylized it). In true iranian style we had a tableside bowl of sumac (a tangy, slightly citrusy berry ground into powder and used in middle eastern and especially iranian cuisine) which was pretty exciting. The meat was good, but a bit pricy for what it was. Thankfully the mix of raw onion, garlic yoghurt, saffron rice, and bits of decent lamb became more than the sum of its parts. 14 pounds each plus tip for that and 2 diet cokes was a bit much. I guess maybe it's unfair to compare everything to riddle & finns before 7:15. I would certainly go back to Kambi's when I'm in the mood for that lovely sumac. Apparently they do fessenjan on a Sunday, so I'll definitely be back for that. Slow cooked persian chicken is out of this world. The atmosphere was also quite endearing, with a persian family celebrating their toddler's birthday -- for which the staff put on a(n appropriately accented) happy birthday tune -- some token persian businessmen, and some british families. Everyone joined in the singing and clapping, which was nice. 3 and a half stars.

And vegetarian pubs are few and far between, even in fair Brighton... Sadly, I'm not sure the George has quite cracked it...the dishes sound good, and in fairness the nachos I had there recently were quite tasty, but nachos are hardly the height of veggie culinary cuisine, are they? What's weird about this place is that they always seem to run out of stuff! I just don't get it. I am REALLY not a fan of being told that there is an ingredient missing as my food is delivered to me...at least have the decency to inform me in good time, so that I can change my order! If I order a burger that involves cheese, please include the cheese! Although I probably won't eat at the George again in a hurry, I would go for drinks- the staff are friendly and they have a lovely little garden with flower adorned trellises. It is a pub perhaps best saved for after-dinner drinks.

The staff were always laidback, the atmosphere was bustling and the portions were filling. I'd still go there for a drink but I don't think I could put one of their forks back in my mouth. :-)

The place was really busy but I managed to find a free table outside and spent several minutes looking at the menu and I couldn't decide what to eat as everything sounded so appealing. After making up my mind I chose the falafel, olives and feta on flat bread and an orange juice. The staff seemed really friendly, because you order at the counter but they bring it to your table. My lunch was yummy. Not a super meal, more like a quick bite for lunch but was quite good and the falafel wasn't too crunchy and hard as I experienced before. I decided to not stay for coffee as I wanted to try some other cafés but overall the place was a really good choice for lunch. Nice decor with a few tables to have a seat outside in the sun, pleasant staff, free wifi and a good spot for people-watching (my favourite sport!!).
