I was a little apprehensive trying a new camp for my daughter, but I'm very happy I did. Coach Alex was very helpful on the first day and was just want she needed to light the fire in her and continue to build on her skills. I appreciate the class size (about 10) she was able to get the attention she needed while in class. Fun location for a birthday party! We attended a kid's birthday party here and it was well organized and a good time. The kids had about an hour to play on the courts. The staff organized some soccer, scooter races, and parachute activities. If the kids didn't want to join in the group activities, they could play with the equipment and do their own thing. The party was in the Skybox party room upstairs, which was nice for privacy. There were also windows so you could see the kids on the court. You could drink alcohol (cups, not cans or bottles) upstairs. The room was so hot, though! Even with the doors open, we were sweating. The staff also came into the party room to assist with food, cake, etc., and they kind of got in the way. Finally, the women's locker room was dirty; the trash can was overflowing during the entire ~3 hours we were there. All in all, a good time, but room for improvement. read more

We enrolled our son in a class, excited for him to learn the fundamentals of various sports. I understand they have to keep distance with the kids and whatnot, that was to be expected. But the coaches look so bored, and the children are ready to leave after just a few minutes of being there. There is very little guidance on what to do, and the breaking point for me was when they were teaching t ball and literally made the preschool kids stand in individual hula hoops for the entire 45 minutes until it was their turn to bat. Half the class was lying in their hoops and some were crying because they were bored and ready to leave. Will NOT be returning. Spend the extra $5 and go to the Little Gym. read more

It's a gym. It looks like a gym, it smells like a (well maintained) gym, and it's full of people playing gym sports. We went for a kids party. They ran around playing a loose version of soccer appropriate for six-year-olds. Everyone had fun. We even had a bit of adults vs kids. All good. The party rooms are fairly plain. Whatever kind of party experience you want, you better bring it. (No idea if there are food packages or anything, but the crew definitely didn't do anything to make it a party atmosphere.) Which is fine. The focus of the place is on being a gym, not a circus. If you ARE considering a kids party here, I'll say the supervision is a little light. (I had to break up a game of "make another kid eat garbage off the floor" that was happening on the sidelines. And if I hadn't, I don't know if anyone else would have.) But to be fair, the kids leading that game were/are kind of jerky in general, and hopefully most parties wouldn't ever have this situation come up.) So: it's a gym. Everything else is secondary. If that's what you want, you've found it. 4 stars read more

Good venue to check out an event - we came with the gang to see a double billing Roller Derby with the Windy City Rollers first then the Chicago Outfit second. The parking lot was filled, but apparently we were allowed to park on the 2nd and 3rd levels of the next door Target structure lot. There were plenty of plastic chairs available, the attendant even started adding more as needed. Beers for sale on one side, nachos, hotdogs and sodas on the other side, along with cheaper sodas and water from the vending machines. A few other tables trying to sell things, dunno what they were, didn't look. The locker rooms and bathrooms were a little scuffed as befits a sports facility, but orderly and clean. Couldn't really understand what was going on, along with the distorted voice of the announcer, but no probs, just enjoyed the whole novel experience - Girl Power, fun and inventive names, 4-wheel roller skates. My son was enrolled in the 5x5 winter soccer program here, I was disappointed. The facilities are OK, but not great, and the coaching was OK, but not great. One of the main factors to be aware of is that they mix kids of varying ages and levels on the same teams. So you have a 6-year old playing on the same team as a 10-year old. Also, you have a mix of beginners, kids who never kicked a soccer ball before, and some club kids. This would have been OK if they tried to balance the teams from a skills standpoint. As it happens, the teams were VERY unbalanced. Even though it would seem obvious that this was the case, as the scores were consistently lopsided, I brought this to the attention of coaches and managers several times. After the fourth time I spoke with a manager, they responded, but STILL did not re-balance the teams. I dropped out of the class immediately, and plan to never enroll my kids in anything here again. I don't know if this is an issue that is unique to soccer, or it applies to basketball and other sports, but do your research ahead of time, and consider other options. read more

It's a decent facility with good flooring that isn't dusty. It's well taken care of and I've been there for many sporting events. However it's a bit overpriced for what you get. They were charging 12 bucks per person for an open gym when the whole facility was completely empty. Was really ridiculous. read more

Team building? Yuck. Well, that's usually my sentiment. I guess I should explain my problem with team building activities before I even discuss my experience here. Usually, these activities are used totally inappropriately. If we are going to train together for three days, have an orientation for an evening or some other event after which I will NEVER see you again, I do NOT want to "team build" with you. It's useless and stupid. Who cares? I don't like you and we're probably not going to be friends if this is our first and last encounter, so I really don't want to know "two truths and a lie" about you. However, I was lucky enough to do some team building with a team of which I am actually a part: my awesome ChiArts coworkers! Team building activities are actually fun if you do them with people that you already know. And Windy City Fieldhouse has got you covered! The employees in charge of the team building activities are totally enthusiastic and friendly, so it's really easy to work with them. They are clear with instructions for each activity and they keep everything moving well so you don't run over scheduled time. Everything we did was very fun and there was a really nice mix of physical and mental activities for us to do together. There are different team building packages available on their website, so your organization can choose the one that will work best for you. There are different types of activities for different types of groups so you will definitely get what you are looking for. I'm not sure of the price since our school paid the bill, but the information on their website seems reasonable. The facility itself is nice and large and there is ample parking available. Everything looks new and all of the spaces are neat and clean. Big locker rooms, tons of bathrooms and tons of equipment for you to utilize while you're at the facility. There are all sorts of things to do here including sports leagues, team building, parties, exercise groups, groups for kids, etc. They really have an activity to fit every need so give them a call if you're an active person. read more

Cool place for kids to just be kids. We had an event for EmPowerHer with the Chicago Sky for kids to get active and have fun. It was like a big recess. Tennis, soccer, basketball, dance, healthy eating, and fitness seasons. This is a great place for a bday party or if you are a coach to host your private seasons for baseball, soccer and basketball. Great venue for children's birthday parties! Alexis made sure the planning process went smoothly. She allowed us to bring in wine for our party and helped decide what games the children should play. What was extremely helpful was that they accepted our cake delivery even though she said they normally do not take deliveries. The staff members supplied to us (I wish I remembered their names) were extremely helpful and friendly. They helped us set up before the party, kept the children entertained throughout the entire party, served their pizza and drinks, and helped with cake and ice cream! I wish I could have brought them home with me. All in all, WCF is a fantastic hassle free venue to host a children's party and we definitely will be hosting another birthday there in the future. read more

A couple of facts: - The place was completely open with no privacy whatsoever - It was cold and guests had to wear their jackets - There were other people playing hockey and basketball around - Too noisy due to other games going on around - we couldn't talk - The staff, which was supposed to engage the kids, did nothing - Lights were turned off by mistake and it took 10 minutes to get them back due to the bulbs type - Needed an extra table and they asked for $10 - The floor is too hard for younger kids - We asked for kid balls and they brought 3 adult basketballs for 13 kids It's obvious they don't know what they are doing. read more

I play in a volleyball league here. It's easy to get to if you've got a car. Parking is a lacking but car pool and you shouldn't have a problem. Conveniently located next to the freeway. Tons of different sports leagues play here so they must be doing something right. This place is packed on a Sunday night. read more

I've played in a few volleyball leagues here and haven't liked the venue very much. the floors are always pretty dirty and it doesn't seem like they ever clean them. but the floor is somewhat of a rubbery material which causes them to stick, so maybe it's a good thing the floors aren't cleaned.... the ceilings are high but the supports hang pretty low so you can't hit a ball up too high or else you will hit the support or get caught up in the nets above the court. Also, they tend to schedule different sports back to back. so if you have a game at 8pm and there is a soccer game before hand, it takes them 10-15 min just to set up the nets for volleyball. the bathrooms and locker rooms aren't the cleanest areas either, and parking can be quite tricky here, especially when there are 10+ different sporting events going on at once. it's not my favorite sports venue, but at least it's really close to the expressway and easy to get to. read more

I was extremely happy to find out it was right next to the highway. Personally, I don't think parking was bad at all! Granted my league met on Wednesdays before but even now as we meet on Fridays, I haven't had too much trouble finding a spot. The facility is clean which is a big plus. they are horrible with their schedule though. If you rented the courts for 8pm, you might not start til 8:30. Since no one really rented the court after us, they'd let us play a little later to make up the time. But if someone DID rent the courts, we'd have to leave which would be a waste of our money. They also sometimes rent their courts to parties which hire DJs. I understand that they need to make money and all but do you know how annoying it is to try to play volleyball with deafening music blasting? It's just silly and horribly distracting. I didn't find the hourly rental fee so bad so it didn't lower my rating that much. That, plus I don't know where else to rent volleyball courts! If anyone else knows, please feel free to let me know! I would be forever grateful! The annoying part about renting courts is that you need to EMAIL them. So plan ahead!! read more

Many an evening I have played indoor soccer here and I have to say that they did a great job providing services for us. They separate the courts so each evening that I am there, at least 4 or 5 other games including b-ball & volleyball are going on at the same time, however I never feel as if they are intruding on our game. The place is HUGE. The games always start on time, we never have to stand around waiting for the previous game to finish. Upstairs they have plenty of bathrooms and lockers, clean and well kept. Their parking is sort of sucky but somehow I always find a spot. Personal note to our ref....What's your problem dude? Why are you always picking on our team? That dude elbowed me in my ribs and you didn't even call it...WTF? We're always stuck with the petty personal fouls. read more

Went to the Fieldhouse for the first time after driving past it on my way to the other shops around the area. Saw a roller derby bout and was really impressed at the space. It's large enough for a lot of different sports, which I was amazed at because it looked small to me! The staff at the desk were nice when we walked in, which is always a plus in my book. They offer drinks for "adult" events! Very nice. I did have a couple issues. They need to invest in some decent seating instead of those horrible fold-up chairs. There are movable, collapsable bleachers, and I think it woudl be worth the investment. Also, parking. Or should I rephrase that to...what parking? There is an extremely limited area, and if you don't find parking on Elston you're SOL. I would recommend taking the bus or testing your luck in the Target parking garage without being towed. read more

Disregard the crazy lady from out of state who thinks this is located in a "desolate" area. It's right in Logan Square, between the expressway on one side and the Elston Target shopping center on the other. I've only played volleyball here, but I'm impressed with the size of the facility and the variety of sports constantly going on here, usually basketball and soccer. There are a ton of courts inside so they can accommodate a bunch of leagues at once. Parking seems limited, but I walk there, so I can't really speak to that. It's nice to have a place like this on this side of town. read more

Preface: My review is solely based on OPEN GYM BASKETBALL and has nothing to do with everything else the field house has to offer. If you're looking for a place to play indoor pick-up basketball, I recommend elsewhere. For $12 for open gym and the reasons below, here's why. At 9AM day of, I made a call to check for open gym availability. The receptionist told me between 1:30 - 5:00PM there would be open gym and according to the schedule there would be 1-1/2 to 2 full courts available. Knowing this, I planned for a group of 9-10 guys to go to the open gym at 1:30. Having never been to the field house before, I called again at 1 to make sure they didn't cancel or any of the previously available open courts didn't get reserved. The receptionist told me open gym had started at 12 and that it would close at 4 for a large roller derby event. I would think that if there was an event that was going to take up the whole field house, they would have known that morning. We decide to go anyway since planning with up to 10 guys and changing last minute isn't easy. So my group arrives at 1:30 and a few guys not from my group were already playing on a regulation court already (court 1?). We are told to all go to court 4. When we get there, soccer goals are in the way and underneath the basket. There are these barricades that are blocking a large portion of the endline and sideline. We get no help from associates and have to push these obstacles out of the way ourselves. The court is what seems like 1.5x the length of a regulation court (for college or high school). The court is sized most likely for soccer. The field house floor is also rough on your shoes. If you are the type of basketball player to keep shoes just for indoor play you should probably bring outdoor shoes for this place. It kind of feels like playing on concrete pavement outdoors. On this note, I did notice a chunk that came out of my barely used curry 2s. Anyway, before we start, we ask the front desk if we can use what I think is court 6 which is in the corner and is a regulation sized court with nothing in the way like soccer goals. They say you can use it till 2PM but then you have to move. OK, i guess we'll just have to make court 4 do. We play, regularly walking by the court we wanted to play on between games seeing that nobody had been using it. We play till 4PM and notice nobody had used it the entire time. Then, an associate comes to our court and tells us we have to all move to court 6 now. Great, we just finished playing for 2 to 2.5 hours and now they're telling us to use that court because the roller derby event is now coming through. Better court management would have helped here. In summary, you can find better open gym basketball other places in the city. Any YMCA would definitely have better set ups and designated schedules for open gym basketball. If the Windy City Fieldhouse wanted to make it more open gym friendly, they should have a set schedule and court (the ones that are regulation size) designated for pick up ball players. It felt a bit like we were not equal paying customers to those that reserved whole courts. I give this place a 2/5 for their open gym basketball. read more

I'll start off by admitting I am a little salty about my first experience here because in my first soccer game, I twisted my knee up something awful. This is because the whole of the field house is made up of some kind of rubber composite flooring, I have never seen in my years of playing organized sports. When I saw it red flags went up in my head due to the perceived safety issues. It provides no give, and has an adhesive property to it that when coupled together is a trainer's nightmare or an orthopedic surgeon's potential waiting list. I have had my knee issues, but they had been resolved for the most part and I could play on turf and grass without an issue. The flooring here, while an excellent choice for efficiency, is not the best when playing a game like soccer where your foot is practically glued to the floor. It is great to have a place to play sports in a city where the winters are brutal, but hindsight being 20-20, I think I would rather take a train or drive to the burbs to play at facilities that are built around the game rather than on that taylors the game to fit the facility. I think Volleyball is fine for this place, but if you are playing basketball or soccer, I would suggest taking it easy as this flooring is not designed to prevent injuries. read more

We hosted our 2009 company holiday party here. It was top notch. There were about 90 of us, ages 23-60, and looking for fun! It was a daytime event, and we wanted to relax, rather than have a stuffy, dressy affair where we were on our best behavior. Murrel and Mary made our dreams come true. They were patient while we decided to provide our own liquor, then asked them to do it, added more food, took some away, changed the time, asked for a meeting room, changed the games, and it goes on. We ended up having an open bar, buffet and games for 3 full hours. We had poker, craps, black jack, Wii, Guitar Hero, batting cages, bags, volley ball, ping pong, pool, and tables to sit and relax. There was literally something for everyone. We had such a blast and I'd go back in a second. If budget were no object (2010 maybe!?) I'd love to host a casino night off site and get all dressed up. I'm hoping we can use WCF for our summer outing as well. They have so many cool options! We typically like to do something totally original every time, but the variety they offer is so diverse that we might be able to swing it. read more

This is a great place to go for classes and parties. I took a self defense class here upstairs and did Workout for Hope one year and they had enough room to house everything without any problems. They have lots of space and do a variety of things. They can do business parties too. read more

My review is for the company outing they provided. They did it at UIC and it was a blast. They offered baggo, moonbounce, dj, tents, food, drinks, tons of games, etc. and just really well coordinated and well done. The staff was super friendly and would recommend them to anyone in need. read more

Windy City Fieldhouse is one of the most unprofessional venues for sports leagues. Communication is beyond terrible on their end. I had signed up for a Sunday Basketball League that was to begin at the end of June. The day the league was supposed to start, I get an email saying that the league was pushed back a week. At the end of the next week, I get an email saying the league is pushed back a week again due to 4th of July (which was on a Friday). The week following this, I get an email saying that there are only 3 teams total in the league but that Windy City can guarantee us at least 10 games. Since this pretty much means we would be facing the same 2 teams 5 times apiece, I suggested that we would be alright with this if the league fee was reduced from $725 to $600. Windy City was completely against a price change and we informed them that we would not participate in the league. The next day, I was informed that they found a 4th team for the league (which was probably just the managers assembling a staff team). Once again, I let them know my stance on the situation and would not be willing to pay the full $725 fee for the league. Many times, teams stop showing up to these leagues, especially if it is a staff or individuals team. My suggestion was if we play the full 8 games (without any teams forfeiting) then we would pay the full $725. However, if 2 or more games were forfeited by the other team then we should be refunded $50 per game. This is a pretty reasonable suggestion and if you feel like you are presenting a quality league then you should have no issues with this type of agreement. Windy City decided that they would not compromise on this issue and so once again we informed them that we would not participate in the league. They told us the league was cancelled the 1st week of July and that we would be receiving a refund check in the mail. On July 24th, we contacted Windy City Fieldhouse to find out what was going on with the refund check as we had not yet received it. They told us they had sent it out and that if it hadn't gotten to us then it was probably being sent back to them due to it possibly being sent to the wrong address. The check was not yet cashed at this time according to them as well. On July 30th, we received a call from Windy City stating that the check had been signed and deposited under my name. Since this did not happen, they said they would have to have their bank figure it out as fraud was a possibility. As of July 31st, we have not been refunded our league fees for a league that never took place. If you are looking for a quality basketball league, this is not the place for you. You're better off getting a membership at a gym or YMCA and playing pickup ball if you are really feeling the urge to play. This place has potential to be a very fine establishment but it's clear that management doesn't have the proper personnel in place to handle these kinds of issues. I come here for Stroller Strides classes. I love how there is so much parking and plenty of room inside. We have had classes in the front courts as well as the back courts which is harder to get to with strollers. After some classes, there is a room upstairs that we can hang out in too. It seems like this is a popular place for camps for older children too so I will probably be coming to the Windy City Fieldhouse for many years to come! read more

This place has been a fixture in Logan Square for ages, and I finally got to see why when I went to see the Chicago Outfit. Since we're getting season tickets next year, it's good that it's a well-set-up facility: lots of space, access to restrooms, good floor vending, solid location, easy to get to, and with the capacity for all kinds of events and sports. The owners keep the place in good shape, and they're willing to host just about anything. And for derby, there's not a bad seat in the house! I'm not sure what else I'd go here for, but for my purposes, it hits the spot. What else can I say? That the vending machines work? They do. read more

Decent facility with lot's of programming choices. Their recent decision to raise the open gym rate by 25% was a bit of a shock, especially when their website still reflects $12. When I pointed this out they still wouldn't honor the online rate, which is not cool. They justify the massive increase by saying they haven't raised this rate in 10 years. We recently had our son's Bar Mitzvah party at Windy City Fieldhouse and cannot say enough AMAZING things about the function!!! The Saturday evening party was a huge success for both adults and kids! It was a celebration our family and friends will remember forever! From my first phone call to the sales staff, it was smooth sailing. Everything from the catering, to the cocktail hour, to the table linens, to the balloons and centerpieces to the selection of great team sports for the kids (of all ages) to the fabulous DJ...the staff at Windy City was the FINEST I have ever worked with. No details were left undone. The facility is run like a fine oiled machine. We were guests at our own party - and most of all, our son and his friends said it was the "best Bar Mitzvah EVER!" My husband and I cannot offer enough praise. Meredith and Maureen bring spectacular people skills to the table, which made planning the party a breeze. The venue was perfect, as we had exclusive use of the facility. Windy City was clean, parking was great, and the location was easily accessible from the city and the suburbs. This is a very poorly run facility for kids' programs. My 5 year old child is enrolled in the soccer program and to say this program is terrible is an understatement. It is highly disorganized. The program never starts on time generally 5-10 minutes late. There are 12 kids in the class but lacks the mechanisms to engage them meaningfully. It is clear that this bad stuff flows from the top. They charge more than comparable programs in the city and this level of callousness and disorganization is hard to understand. Eventually something will have to give. Either they will have to get their act together or else they will be stuck with a big facility with not much interest from dissatisfied clients. read more

I had my son's birthday party here (and I haven't been here for anything else) but this place is AWESOME for kid's birthday parties! Alexis was great at setting it up and putting me at ease about the details (it was almost too easy). The other parents hadn't been here either and they were very happy with the facility. The hosts played with the kids (doing activities that we picked out beforehand) while the parents were able to watch from a "nest" room above the gym and socialize as well. The hosts helped to set up and clean up - and they were beyond outstanding. The first host brought a cart out to our car and brought everything up to the party room, which was huge! I have a love hate relationship with WCFH. I've played in numerous leagues (basketball & floor hockey) and even though they've always been run smoothly, the games rarely start on time. Aside from that, the place is always packed with nary a parking spot in sight. read more
