The communication start to end, the bar packages that are available, and the willingness to help when one of my vendors didn't show up. If I have any events in the future, this will always be top of my list. Here are some photos of how the space was set up for me. Hopefully this helps someone else.

I recently hosted an event at Palace Regency in Cicero and unfortunately had a very disappointing…read moreexperience. Communication with the owner was poor from the start. Calls and messages often went unanswered, and when I raised concerns about issues during the event, they were dismissed rather than addressed. On the day of the event, several things went wrong. Dinner service started late, the food was served cold, and there was only one bartender for approximately 130 guests. Drinks that were supposed to be served during dinner were never delivered. When I asked staff for assistance, no one was able to help or identify a point person in charge. Additionally, the venue was still being set up when it was supposed to be ready, which added unnecessary stress while I was trying to decorate and prepare. Instead of offering a meaningful resolution, I was offered a small discount for a future event and tickets to a band, which felt inappropriate given the situation. Overall, I was unable to fully enjoy my mother's event because I was busy managing issues that should have been handled by the venue. I would not recommend Palace Regency based on my experience.

My husband and I had our wedding at The Woman's Club of Evanston in October 2025, and we truly…read morecannot recommend this venue enough. The space is gorgeous on its own -- not a blank slate at all -- so we didn't need nearly as many decorations or flowers as we did at other venues we considered. Our guests raved all day about how beautiful and unique the building was. One of the biggest advantages is that the entire venue is yours for the day. There are no other weddings or events happening at the same time, which makes everything feel calm, special, and centered on your celebration. We had a Sunday brunch wedding, held our ceremony downstairs (very cozy and intimate), and our reception upstairs in the ballroom. The flow between spaces was seamless, and the ballroom floor is amazing for dancing. The sound system was excellent -- speeches and music were crystal clear. Gretchen was wonderful to work with throughout the planning process. She provided vendor recommendations, kept us on track to meet deadlines, and answered all of our questions. We used J&L Catering for our food and Schaffer's for alcohol, and both were excellent and the liquor from Schaffer's was a significant cost savings. Another huge bonus: so many essentials are included with the rental, such as tables, chairs, silverware, and plates. At other venues, those items can be surprisingly expensive to source. Logistically, this location is hard to beat. There are several hotels and great restaurants within walking distance, making it incredibly easy for our out-of-town guests to enjoy an entire weekend in Evanston. Our local guests appreciated that parking is free in Evanston on Sundays and close to the venue. There are also plenty of bathrooms on the same floors where all the events take place -- a small detail that makes a big difference for guest comfort. Finally, it felt meaningful to support a historic building and philanthropic organization rather than a large hotel chain. Overall, we highly recommend The Woman's Club of Evanston as a premier wedding venue in the greater Chicagoland area. We couldn't imagine having celebrated anywhere else.

It is a gorgeous old mansion with deep roots; the manager (Gretchen) is kind, reliable, and so easy to work with; the preferred caterer we used (Catering by Michaels) was raved about by our guests; and the gift of bringing your own alcohol was huge. Our guests kept commenting on the uniqueness of the space, how great it was to have a pianist playing during our cocktail hour on the first floor, and how joyful and bright the ballroom looked. It was honestly beyond anything I imagined. A few extra things of note - our guests stayed at the Graduate Evanston which is barely a block away (no shuttles needed!); there is a huge parking garage across the street so nobody was looking for parking; and have I mentioned how beautiful the space is? I wish I had a reason to throw a huge event again - I would go back to the Women's Club every time. Huge thank you to Gretchen and her team!

The place is breathtaking, and ceilings are very high. Additionally, it is located close to Michigan avenue. With majority of our guests being out of town, this was a huge plus! Chez is a like a white canvas, you can make whatever you want of it. Due to the recommendations from our designers, we decided to use lights as our main form of décor, and it worked like a charm. Chez accommodated all of our needs and was one of the few places that was willing to be open till 2am if we needed it (we used it till 1am). The rental also included beautiful ghost chairs and large rectangular tables. The staircase provides a different touch from the rest of the places we saw, and we got to make a grand entrance walking down. The views from up there are also amazing as you can get a bird's eye view of the place. Lauren was of great help. She was very open to our ideas and always open to accommodate anything we needed. She also made herself and the place available whenever we needed to come by and see the place or show the place to our family and friends (which was a few times throughout the year). Her communications were prompt. She helped make our reception go smoothly.

We had a beautiful wedding day that we will cherish forever, but unfortunately, our experience with…read morethe venue and its management team was extremely disappointing. The venue itself is beautiful and has so much potential, but the lack of organization, communication, and professionalism made the planning process unnecessarily stressful. I would not recommend working with this team. Throughout the planning process, we found that the only way to get anything accomplished was to constantly follow up and hound the venue. Even then, things were often delayed, overlooked, or not completed as promised. The two business partners frequently seemed to be on completely different pages, and we received conflicting information depending on who we spoke with. We were specifically told that the room flip would take approximately 45 minutes. In reality, it took about an hour and a half. That delay pushed our entire wedding timeline back and resulted in additional costs because we had to extend the time for our photographer, videographer, and DJ. The space was also far too small for the number of guests we were told it could accommodate. The tables were placed so close together that guests could barely walk through the room, making the reception feel extremely cramped and uncomfortable. There were also issues with our personal wedding items. The venue damaged some of our decorator's decorations and failed to properly store our wedding cake in the refrigerator. These are not minor details when you are trusting a venue with expensive items and one of the most important days of your life. Perhaps most upsetting was how my mom was treated. After spending months having to repeatedly follow up to get things done, the venue coordinator referred to my mom as "PITA" -- "pain in the a**" -- simply because she was advocating for the wedding we were paying thousands of dollars to have. Expecting the venue to deliver what was promised and to execute the details correctly should not make a client a nuisance. To be clear, we had an amazing wedding day and will cherish it forever. Our family, friends, and vendors made sure of that. The venue is beautiful, and the day itself was special because of the people we surrounded ourselves with. But a beautiful space does not make up for poor organization, inconsistent communication, damaged property, mishandled wedding details, and a lack of professionalism. When couples spend thousands of dollars on their wedding venue, they should be able to expect competent coordination, clear communication, and respect. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. I strongly recommend couples considering this venue get every promise, timeline, capacity limit, responsibility, and detail in writing -- and be prepared to follow up repeatedly to ensure things actually happen.
