The atmosphere is pretty cookie cutter late 90's North American hole-in-the-wall, bar & grill, and the burger really wasn't that fresh either. Decent burger, basic poutine, good hot dog…read more There's something to be said about a yankee heading to a retro Americana diner. But I was hungry, and lots of places were closed on a Sunday. So I came here to try their grub. First off, it's very much what I think everyone thinks a quintessential diner is. Multi-colored swooshes patterns on the countertop, tons of pop culture icons plastered against the walls, American country music playing on the speakers. If there was ever a tourist trap then this is it. The server was very nice and accommodating. Explained the menu and answered questions quickly. We got a poutine, a burger and hot dog, and some onion rings to round everything out. Food came out relatively quick. Pacing was good, got the poutine out first to munch on before getting the rest. The quality is very much a basic greasy spoon diner back in the states. Lots of stuff fresh out the freezer, prepared like a beach stand with stuff quick fried and sent out. There was some care shown, the burger was lightly seasoned and not overcooked. Bun was fresh and the hot dog had a good char to it. Besides that, it was underwhelming overall. That being said, it wasn't bad. Yeah, it was generic but you don't go to a place like this for solid eats. You come here for that little reminder of home or to explore from the comfort of home. In those cases, this place works. Given that it was literally next door to a Texas bbq place, they very much knew what clientele they were aiming for. If you're curious to try some of the most basic food that the US has to offer, then this place will allow one to experience that without having to drive there. It's better than a fast food chain, but there's a LOT more to explore if you ever get the chance to visit.

And the meals came looking just like the pics. The owner and grill master prepared our meals and his wife was our waitress. The bbq sauce is made in house, We tried both the pork and beef rib. Portions were huge. Two hungry people could have shared one of the dinners. We saw the sandwiches. They were also full of meat and according to a fellow customer nearby, delicious, the meat is always tender, never dry.. we started with the nachos. Normally I don't like non traditional bar type nachos, but I ate at least half the order: it had pulled pork, cheese, bbq sauce, and yes, baked beans. . Never thought I'd like baked beans on a nachos, but it worked. each nachos chip was loaded. We did go back a second time the next day for lunch with a friend. She'd never been here before, but liked it and said her dad and brother would love it. She could only finish half beef rib meal. The sides were good, they are in the process of changing the menu a little. This is not a town that likes very spicy food, so you had to request heat. The Mexican corn needed a boost Mexican chilli powder, but it's catered to local tastes. It was good, I'd order again. Home made baked beans. Very good. We enjoyed the fries, but wish we had changed them out for something more exotic on the sides menu. Would we return, we did, ordered the same thing all over again and still enjoyed it. Wished the cook but as many baked beans on the nachos. Maybe request more because it is good. All I can say is, you gotta eat here, even if you are travelling along the 401. It's worth the detour up to Chatham for the restaurant.

While we were sitting with her and discussing dinner plans, the student nurse who was with her recommended this place. She had said it was a Chatham staple and everyone knows it. I had seen many awesome reviews on Facebook and Google, but nothing here, not even a photo. We arrived around 5:30pm on a Thursday evening, and we were greeted right away and told we can sit wherever we wanted. We took a booth near the front, the place wasn't that full at the time we arrived. We were handed menus and our drink our was taken. They have a Chinese menu, and a Canadian menu, but we opted for Chinese cuisine that night. You can order the standard items separately, or they have a combination platter you can get that comes with wonton soup, and egg roll and desert. I ordered the combo platter with the sweet and sour pork, and my sister had the combo platter that came with three chicken balls, and beef and broccoli. Everything came out so quickly, and our waitress was quite attentive with us as well as the other patrons in the restaurant. The owners were walking by and smiled when we first walked in. The food was delicious! it was hot, flavourful, and there was a lot. My sister enjoyed the beef & broccoli, and I enjoyed the sweet and sour pork, which came with sliced carrots and pineapple (which I'm not a fan of so I just scraped those to the side), and also came with chicken fried rice, which was hot and tasty! The egg roll was crunchy, and the wonton soup was tasty and not too salty. Our desert was a small piece of mocha coffee cake and a dollop of whipped cream drizzled with chocolate sauce. It was so good, and you only needed that small piece of a taste! The prices were really good, it was $11.99 for the combo plate, and they take interac/major credit cards. You go up and pay at the front. We had a wonderful meal and you get a lot of food. This is definitely a Chatham staple and we were happy to report back to the student nurse how awesome it was.
