Several years ago I knew I had to visit Waymores when I read my Yelp buddy, Jarrod R.'s review from 1/4/2017. My mom and I both love Waylon Jennings. My grandmother too, but she didn't get to partake in this all girl's road trip on 11/24/21 to the small town of Littlefield, TX. Waymores is part liquor store and part tribute to Jennings. If you're lucky, you'll catch a family member like we did (Jennings's sister-in-law, Helen) to give us a brief tour of their memorabilia room (or as some reviews refer to as the museum). She shared so many neat stories about Jennings and their family. We were grateful we caught her in time before lunch. On the way out, I picked up a small black Waylon t-shirt, a bottle of tequila for my brother, and a bottle of whiskey for my dad for $58.43. Debit or credit is accepted. I wore the t-shirt to a lunch buffet later that week with extended family. My dad laughingly told me that a guy behind him waiting in line read the words on the back of my new shirt in a sort of dumbfounded way. The shirt says, "I've always been crazy..." (a song Jennings wrote and recorded) Had I heard this guy, I would have belted out the rest of the words... "But it's kept me from going insane." Just the nicest, most gracious guy ever--Waylon Jenning's brother. He will totally spend a ton of time talking about childhood stories, etc. He doesn't charge anything to look at all the memorabilia but definitely buy something while you're in there. It's worth going out of your way to check out if you're a fan of Waylon. read more

My first thought is that it's sad that a museum honoring someone as iconic as Waylon Jennings is located in a side room of a liquor store. However, the fact that his brother James is the owner, curator, host and resident story teller, couldn't make it any better. James is very friendly and natural storyteller that can captivate your attention. I could see in him what I can only imagine were some of the same traits that must've made Waylon a great showman. James told us stories that I doubt you would ever read about anywhere. There were stories about the Jennings' family, their dad, their humble upbringing in Littlefield, the time spent learning music along side Buddy Holly and the successes and failures that Waylon encountered on his way to fame. Despite how talented and driven Waylon may have been, it was clear that a handful of lucky breaks made the difference in his ultimate fame and otherwise being someone that most of us would've never heard of. The story that stuck with me most was one about how Waylon, who had previously worked as a disk jockey in Lubbock, heard of an opening at a radio station in Phoenix and loaded his family and all their possessions in a car and drove out with only a hope of obtaining the job. As it turned out, he got the job in Phoenix and played gigs at night as a stepping stone on his eventual rise. I only wish that I would've recorded the stories or at least wrote them all down immediately afterwards in order to fully remember them all. As for the museum itself, it's a small treasure trove of anything and everything Waylon. One of the more impressive items is Waylon's first guitar that he learned to play at the age of eight. The walls are lined with photos, most from the family's personal collection. There is memorabilia ranging from old handbills, to gold and platinum records, to clothing. I probably spent an hour viewing the collection and still did not fully take it all in. As a boy growing up in the 80's, there was nothing bigger than the Dukes of Hazzard. At the time I didn't know who Waylon was, but I remember staying glued to his every word as he narrated one Duke issue after another. Waylon was a pioneer and along with Willie, was the king of Outlaw country. He embodied a rebel spirt that most of us only wish we had. The more I think about it, the more fitting it seems that this tribute to this unique and iconic personality is in a liquor store. This museum is truly a one of a kind experience that I would highly recommend to anyone who is a fan of Waylon or music in general. If you get the opportunity, don't pass up a chance to stop here or to catch a couple of stories from James. read more

Yeah this place blows, I've gone to all the liquor stores in the area and they are the only one who said they wouldn't take my id because it said under 21. She didn't even check the age on it. Waylon Jennings would be proud of this museum honoring him and his contribution to country music and to the town of Littlefield. TX. I drove up on this location by accident. I saw the back of an old gas/service station and the flying W was painted on the wall. Being a Waylon Jennings fan I knew that what that meant. Come to find out this place is a museum to Waylon as well as a drive thru beer\liquor store (God bless Texas) that is operated by James Jennings (Waylon's brother) and his wife Helen. I walked in and was greeted by Helen. She was pure Texas, friendly, funny and she spoke her mind. Loved every minute as she showed me around the place and explained in detail what everything was and what it meant to her family. There were tons of pictures, artifacts, clothes and all sorts of memorabilia. Some of it was publicly available stuff and some was personal letters and drawings. I had a truly fantastic time visiting and admiring the collection. Any true Waylon fan needs to make the pilgrimage to this place. I'm sure they would appreciate a donation too, although they'd never ask for one. Highly recommend. read more

Listen to me for one second. If you have any interest in music history from the late fifties to the early 2000s (and beyond) go to Littlefield and find Waymore's. This small 'museum' (actually a single room on the side of the liquor store) is simply wonderful - absolutely full of family memories of Waylon with touches of Cash, Kristoffenson and even Elvis. I don't offen review anything but the informality and personality of this family collection blew me away. James and Helen were also the greatest of hosts. The Buddy Holly Centre is 45 minutes away in Lubbock. If you 'do' the Buddy thing you MUST 'do' Waymore's. read more
