Climate control that is accessible to the back seat passengers
    Donovan H.

Interestingly enough, I've heard a lot about Waymo even before they started to launch in San Francisco (as well as other pilot cities) back in 2024. I waited patiently for a couple years so that they could work out all their kinks with their autonomous vehicles. And in early-2026, I figure I don't have to be the guinea pig as I finally gave them a try. Since I am not a resident of San Francisco, getting the opportunity didn't come easy but I finally made this happen during the afternoon/evening on Friday 2/13/2026. First things first; this entire operation is done exclusively through a mobile smartphone by using the Waymo app (available through Apple or Google Pay). You then set up your account by adding your payment information as well as fully customizing your settings (which includes climate control in the vehicle and even setting your music playlist). You then set a specific area where you would like the Waymo to pick you up as well as a dedicated drop off area. Since I was going from the Marina District to the Financial District, it provided me with a total amount (in US dollars) as well as an ETA of how long your trip will be. As of early-2026, all of the Waymo vehicles use the Jaguar I-PACE EV models but I am sure they will eventually launch different makes & models in the coming years. You will get notifications in real-time and when your vehicle has arrived, it displays your initials on a computerized screen directly on top. These vehicles have an abundance of sensors that can detect just about any moving object; pedestrians, bicyclists, and even small pets. Their technology has also enabled hazards on the road, detours, and unexpected road closures. During my trip, Waymo did encounter a fire truck on my route. It made a stop and actually pulled over safely to reach out to tech support. From what I noticed, these vehicles do not pass emergency vehicles so after I was on the phone with tech support, I explained to them the situation. As a special incentive, my entire ride was waived! Not only that but they also compensated me on my next Waymo ride. I will say that my experience in a completely driverless autonomous vehicle was painless and relaxing as I did not at all feel in danger. I will say that their pricing structure is just a little bit higher than Uber/Lyft but the experience was something I thought I would never encounter in my lifetime. With that said and done, this IS the future of taxis and transportation. Some of the pros are not dealing with a reckless driver while offering more safety for female passengers where they aren't harassed by a male driver. And best of all, you don't need to "tip" a robot driver, lol. The cons are that this trend can eliminate a ton of ride share jobs (Uber/Lyft). I also wanted to add that these vehicles are considerably slower and have yet to maneuver more rapidly than their human counterparts. Therefore, when you factor in the overall experience, I am giving Waymo a respectable and above average four stars.

You can't help but see Waymos all over SF and I wanted to experience. I downloaded the app and it sync with my Google log in and Apple Pay. I requested the car and it was a 10 minute wait. The license plate was a little small on the app screen and I didn't immediately see it. The car arrived on time and the right side of the street. I used the app to open the door. I had to manually confirm it to start driving. It gave a safety speech. The back screen provided controls for support, music selection, and air conditioning. I went about 5 miles, trip estimated at 30 minutes. Cost is $25. The car was kinda jerky with the stop and go, so if someone has car or motion sickness, this might not be a fun ride. I didn't feel obligated to tip. Good one time experience. I did also compare Tesla Robotaxi but where I was going was outside of Tesla's limited operating area as of the day of my ride. I can't wait to try Tesla Robotaxi! Please come and create your own experience.

I was in the city, and I decided to try out waymo, the driverless cars. It was a lot of fun. You order the car on their app, pay for the ride and it tells you where you go to meet the car. When the car comes, you push a button on the app to open the door, and then you get in. There's a screen in front that says hello with your name on it, and then there is a person on the screen, reminding you to put on your seatbelt, and telling you a little bit about what to expect along the ride. My ride was perfect. The car stopped and went when it was supposed to. It handled traffic perfectly. As you go along, the screen in front tells you how many more minutes until your destination. . The Waymo took me right to where I was going with no issues whatsoever. The other nice thing is, when you get out, you don't have to leave a tip. You just leave feedback. They may be putting something in the future, where if you want to leave a tip, it would go to charity. The reason I'm taking off a star, as while it is fun, generally, it is more expensive than an Uber or a Lyft. I'm definitely glad I rode it for the experience. When I'm in the city, I will always check all three apps, and if the price is close, or the waymo will get to me quicker then the other two, I would definitely ride it again. It is a lot of fun. Thanks.

Broke down Waymo in intersection and crosswalk causing traffic problems for everyone else.

Disclaimer: I have never rode in a Waymo, although my experience is with having them on the road while driving in San Francisco. If you have been to San Francisco recently you will see that they are all over the city. I personally feel like they are a recipe for an accident and often cause congestion in already crowded streets in San Francisco when they don't function properly. Waymo has said that a fleet of more than 2,500 vehicles operates in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Metro Phoenix, Austin and Atlanta. They are all over San Francisco and are everywhere you look. While recently in San Francisco for a show, we were leaving and a Waymo stopped working in the middle of an intersection before the light turned green blocking the intersection and the crosswalk. It caused congestion when the light turned green and almost accidents as all the cars had to get over a lane abruptly. I'm personally not a fan of having to share the road with driverless drivers because of things like this. Another incident that happened a couple months ago was that on December 20th, 2025 a power outage knocked out power to approximately 1/3 or 1/4 of the whole city of San Francisco. You saw videos on social media that all over the city there were Waymos stuck at intersections with their hazard lights turned on as traffic lights stopped working following a fire at a PG&E substation, which clogged up the streets of San Francisco. In the event of a massive power outage, it seems like Waymo is still working out it's kinks. Thankfully those don't happen often. Waymos are not going away in San Francisco and other major cities. Thankfully I don't go to the city often so they are easy to avoid.

    Bye bye Waymo

Curiosity killed the bank account. But, to say the least, my curiosity was cured. Here is my story. 1- each Waymo vehicle is driver-less, but has a name 2- you do not have a choice of route 3- maximum number of passengers is three It is very timely. And you need to keep your eye out on its vehicle license plate. You will access the vehicle by the code that is sent to your app. That is the only way you can open the door to the vehicle. It knows your name It is extremely safe. Sticks to the speed limit. Not a mile per hour more than whatever the speed limit is. The sensors on the exterior of the vehicle knows when to stop, went to slow down, and went to speed up, but only to the speed limit - It is double the cost of a regular Uber or Lyft ride Was it worth it? While my curiosity was cured, if I needed to go somewhere, and Waymo was the fastest way, I would use it again. Download the app have it ready just in case

What the hell is that, a white cop car? We finally tried a Waymo Taxi. It's a white Jaguar sedan fitted with several radars on the top and corners that scan and pick up movement on the street. Particularly at intersections and lanes. Via App you can order the taxi similarly to Uber or Lyft. Depending on the availability it will estimate time and cost. Ours arrived a few yards away and we got in. Through the computer screen It's tells you to buckle up, otherwise alarms go off and it won't advance. On the screen it offers customization of actual radar traffic tracking, viewing destination route, location change, music and temp. The car was pretty clean, but I saw that there was a woman's panty on the floor. So maybe a passenger dropped them or a couple joined "The Mile Long Club". Before the destination it tells you to look around before unlocking and opening the doors. It was comparable to the competitors minus a tip. No filthy car, personal belongings cluttering seats, sexual harassment, mistakes, or off putting BO odors. Another wave of the future, what's next merchandise?

The future is here! Well, it has actually been here for a while. I highly doubt anyone will ever forget their first Waymo ride. I've done it a bunch of times and I'm still amazed and I loathe the day when I will take the Waymo for granted and lose this sense of wonder. It has actually become one of my favorite things to do to take out of town for the first Waymo ride.

I had always wondered what it would feel like to be in an autonomous vehicle and I can say, "LOVE it" !!! This is quality public transportation and it's so peaceful, clean and very comfortable. It's a well oiled machine!!! What stands out to us is that, from the moment it pulls over with your initials on the top of the car roof to pick you up, you feel safe. Not having to talk with a stranger and also at times a bad driver, it's great knowing you're stepping into a very peaceful experience with Waymo. We only use Waymo whenever we're in San Francisco and although it is pricier than Uber or Lyft, there is NO turning back!!!

    Excellent driver as usual!
    Laura G.

I couldn't navigate the city without Waymo. I leave the car at whichever hotel we've reserved and Waymo to and from the hospital. Relieves all the anxiety surrounding getting around town by myself, and no parking hassles! Always neat, clean and on time. As pleasant an experience as I could hope for. I'd give 100 stars if I could!

Waymo stopped not moving, blocking traffic having people going into the opposite lane of traffic
    Matthew N.

Many of my days have been interrupted blocked literally, cut off and rerouted just for this silly system refer to evidence photos along with videos One photo shows car stuck, plugging up the one lane of traffic having people go into the opposite direction lane of traffic also blocking the bike lane and not picking anyone up Second, can't make a decision to make a right turn in front of the SF Recology truck even when the green arrow allows it to go everybody has to go around opposite lane of travel Person driving either scenario Officer Do you know why I pulled you over ? Have you been drinking any illicit drugs? Ok that's enough Please step out of the car do you mind consenting to field sobriety tests? OK that's enough. Put your hands behind your back.

Waymo ride from rear passenger seats. There is another Waymo vehicle directly in front of us .

Go Waymo, Go Waymo, Go Waymo! Loved my first ride on Waymo! Today my son and I rode BART from the suburbs to Powell Station, then paid $23 plus $5 tip for our fantastic Uber driver to go to California Academy of Sciences in the Golden Gate Park (19 min ride). On the way back, since there is such a clear, designated ride pick-up area in front of the Academy of Sciences, I decided to try Waymo. The newly loaded app is so easy to use and immediately applied a 30% discount for new users (3 rides within 2 weeks for max discount of $6 per ride). We asked Waymo for a ride from the Academy to Garden Bakery in Chinatown which is about a 30-minute ride. The app quoted the price of $17.33 minus 30% discount for a grand total of $12.24 and since it is driverless, no tip required! I had read that many have found Waymo to be more expensive than Uber/Lyft, but apparently, that is not the case. The Waymo Jaguar vehicle is so clean, comfortable, soft music playing and temperature at a refreshingly, cool 70 degrees. The vehicle drove perfectly, even when a driver cut in front of our vehicle from the left lane. Smooth braking, smooth driving. Can't say enough positive things about my first Waymo ride.

One-Star Review for Waymo I've never seen this many cars driving up and down my street before. The noise is constant, and it's completely disrupting my peace. I can't even step outside without seeing one of these cars cruising by at all hours of the day and night. It feels like my neighborhood has turned into a testing ground instead of a place to live. Waymo really needs to consider the impact this is having on local residents.

So the 15, the 30, and the 45 all went through Chinatown. When the T-Third Street came into existence in 2007, I believe they got rid of the 15--or was it the 10-Townsend?--because it duplicated much of the T-Third's route. But that's not really true, since the T-Third wouldn't extend all the way to Chinatown until January 2023, but there was duplication on 3rd Street. Wait, wait, wait! I said I wouldn't go into that history. The 15-Bayview Hunters Point Express has a long, complicated name, but it serves a very important purpose: namely, efficiently transporting passengers from Bayview to the Financial District, and vice versa. Yes, its service is redundant, as most of its line shares the T's line on 3rd Street, but the T-Third runs at grade, meaning that it has to deal with all the same cross streets and signals as regular cars and buses do, at least along 3rd Street, so the 15 is often faster than the T, at least for short trips on 3rd Street. I often use the 15 and T interchangeably. If I'm on 3rd Street and I need to go north or south, I pull up NextBus and find out which one is coming first. I hop on that one. The 15 is also useful for when they're doing service work on the T or if there's any kind of track issue that backs trains up along the line. The 15's bus stops are generally past the street of its intersections, which is mainly true of the T-Third's stations, so it's easy enough to wait for either train or bus right at the corner. You'll definitely be able to see the train long enough ahead of time to cross the street to the station entrance.

Just about to request a car through an app (from one of those easy-peasy car services), I notice a red & white vehicle (a Veteran's cab) flash by and I raise my arm. The taxi driver was pretty sharp and he looped around the block and lickety-split, he's back in front of me and my companion. We have some stuff to move from Point A to Point B so we don't just hop into the vehicle. The taxi driver sees that this is the case and he gets out of the car and helps us load items (including a big box) into the trunk. Off we go. The driver knows these streets and he zips up 9th Street where the lights are timed. Good thinking! Along the way he chats about what events are going on in the City today and the neighborhood which we are passing through (the Tenderloin). He comments about the rise in car break-in crime in the TL; owners of buildings who have to repeatedly paint over the graffiti that cover their neat, uniform exteriors. He says it's so sad that the City has these things happening. Having an easy going nature, the taxi driver follows my directions to navigate to Point B (stay in the right lane, cross this street, make a right on that one, turn left at the next intersection, pull over to the left-hand side). Once we arrive at Point B, the taxi driver gets out of the car, opens my door so I can easily exit and carries the big box we had stowed in the trunk to the front door. Easy dealings to pay him the fare. Mister Taxi Driver of cab# 1512, thanks for a positive experience in your vehicle! So courteous to help with the big box! I want to have faith that there are good, hard-working taxi drivers out there. Now I know there still are!
