    Airtrain sign.

I love the way they run, I love the maps and have found that getting around on them is much easier. It's easy to find from the BART station. However, if you are looking for it from the airport, it can be a touch tricky. But once on, it's a breeze. I love this because I had an experience many years ago of running through the airport. I was on my way to a funeral for a relative in another country. I was with two cousins, one of whom fell. Her suitcase flew open and clothes were strewn about. Her sister went to help her and my cousin said, "No! Run, Diva, Run." And thank goodness she ran because I couldn't keep up. But, we wouldn't have had such an experience today. We could be dropped off at our gate or we could catch an AirTram and find our way to our gate in a much calmer manner. Also, did I mention that it was free??? The only hiccup is at night when it doesn't seem to run as often, but other than that, it's A-okay!

Hmmm, an AirTran that takes a bit to get you to where you need to go. It's also not a big one, so you may have issues packing it in and then leaving. Position yourself wisely and more importantly, make sure you are heading in the right direction.

From Terminal 1, it's just 6 quick stops to the car rental place.

The Air Train at SFO has Always been consistent, there's never been a break down since I've used it since 2003. Unlike the one at McCarran in Vegas, on one occasion, the train broke down and when it finally stared running, it got dangerous by the number of semi-angry people packing each train car. But thankfully, there have been no issues here. Thumbs up Air Train mgmt. and facilities staff!! The nice views of 101, fog rolling down the adjacent hills, the panoramic views of SFO itself - what's not to like about this elevated rail. Now there aren't too many places to hold onto, so be careful. But it's clean and I never sensed any danger nor have I heard of any pick pocketing. The ride is very quick, probably 8 minutes from end to end. I usually take the Air Train to get my rental car or to get to the terminal after dropping off my rental car. It's quite efficient for getting to all terminals and for connecting to BART (public train system). Although I've never taken Bart, I'm sure that can be tricky. You've guessed it, I've got CTA PTSD, but that's a review for another day.

Once you figure the layout Air Train is pretty wonderful. It is how you get to BART, Car Rentals, etc. Service is consistent.

Came by the other night to hop on the AirTrain from International Garage A to the Hyatt and it was a decent experience. The Air Train station from the International Garage is located on Level 7 of the International Garage 7 and is also accessible via escalator on level 8. The fully automated AirTrain would stop by every ~4 minutes. The red train that I took had no A/C and was hot and humid, like the Underground in London or Metro in Paris. Interestingly enough, the blue train had A/C on full blast like the NYC subway... Signage at the station was plentiful and clear. AirTrain is complimentary.

Fast train that loops the airport. Free. Both lines travel all terminals. Trains are clean with plenty of standing room. Little sitting is available yet most people are courteous if you ask or appear to require seating. The redline is a direct entry into Hyatt SFO, Bart station and public bus transportation. Kids and adults will find this quick train ride pretty cool. If you have extra time take the full loop. Enjoy simple pleasures in life. Tip: Pay attention between the difference between Terminal and International Terminal before deboarding. I was wondering, where is the train operator? Be safe and courteous.

This was very smooth. Got to the rental car depot easily. Everything was very well marked so little confusion which is important when traveling.

Free transportation from SFO to the Rental Car Center Located on the 4th Level of San Francisco International Airport (SFO), I found the free ride on the AirTrain to be quick and efficient. Since it was my first time experiencing this mode of transportation in San Francisco, it was amazing for me! It's air conditioned, clean, and bright! It got me safely to the Rental Car Center at the end of the Blue Line. We passed a BART Station and other terminals. Wow! This gives me more ideas for a return trip to San Francisco!

Such a nice addition to SFO, with stops at the Hyatt Grand, parking and terminals a few minutes away. The views are spectacular during the day, and you feel like the Jetsons cartoon, as the train is so modernistic and quiet. There is never a crowd on the train, and people can get in and out of the airport in just a few minutes. I wished LAX was laid out similarly...

SFO's AirTrain is a groundside (outside security) train that takes passengers between the central rental car pavilion, the parking lots and between the many terminals at SFO. It runs both clockwise and counterclockwise, so you'll definitely want to make sure you are boarding the correct train at the station. Easy, free, clean and relatively quick. I think it was less than ten minutes from the rental car station to Terminal 1. The train is above ground and the cars are glass-enclosed. You will get a good view of the airfield and the aprons here.

It's FREE. It's convenient. It's reliable. It's always on time. It's eco-friendly. It's cool-looking and futuristic. AND.... It takes you to your terminal, parking garage, BART or the car rental place. So quit complaining and enjoy the smooth ride.

    Maria C.

First time taking the AirTrain to get to BART. It was clean but no seats... Ok, maybe a couple but they were "reserved". Since no one was on board, I helped myself to one. Short trip to the BART and it was better than trekking the entire way thru SFO. Note: Not fun if you have several bags and trying to balance yourself ensuring your bags don't topple over while standing. Not that it happened to me or anything... Just an observation...

The "waterfront" name may sound good but it's very much giving extended stay. I wasn't expected luxury but I more motel-ish than I expected. The room was big and spacious and clean. It'll do the job for an overnight trip like mine but I'd suggest paying the extra $20 a night to stay somewhere a bit nicer with better customer service. I'll never cheat on Bonvoy again.

Sonesta Es Suites has crazy fees! $250 holding upon checking in is really unnecessary high! and it doesn't get returned immediately after checking out. Other hotels nearby charge $50 or $100 only! They also charge a $50-$55 early check in fee and late check out fee! I mean come on! This is the first hotel I stayed at that does this. If you're going to charge all these fees, we should expect immaculate experience. Upon checking in- the hallways had trash bags in front of some rooms. Housekeeping clearly walked by because coming in and out I saw the housekeeper working, and half a day later. The trash still sat! The elevator has peeling signs inside. The room- all the light switches and walls were dirty, the window had clearly not been cleaned- cob webs and spiders all around the window sill. Opened the window and closed immediately seeing spiders and had two mosquitoes enter. It looks like the hotel needs an exterminator to spray regularly. The staff at front desk aren't friendly, more robotic and they don't even smile. You're suppose to be greeting customers and they definitely don't make you feel warm and welcomed. Clearly, management may lack these skills too at it shows on their staff!

Got a PIC programer and some other various things. After he moved to the current location thats closer to the airport I continue to buy things from him, usually emergencies when I'm short a part or have a rush on something. Hobby Engineering has a searchable website so you can see what he has in stock. The IMIM store hours are what I would nicely say Quasi-Predictable. He's basically running two businesses at the same time by himself and most business is through the mail-order/warehouse side of things however you can really tell he wants to have a storefront. I know currently he's trying for regular Saturday hours but its always best to read the website instructions. When I need something I check the website, then I call to see when he'll be around. If I'm in a rush after confirming he'll be there I'll place the order online and pay for it as a Will-Call and swing by. He has also been incredible in the past and met me at weird or late hours to pick something up. The IMIM store itself is on the second floor and he's making good progress on it as of my last visit. Quite a bit of hobby-related stuff on the shelves to browse. His speciality seems to be Robotics but a lot of general model making supplies around too. Not some much on display for general electronics but the warehouse is just downstairs so if you know he has it in stock and he doesn't have bunches of customers upstairs he has no issues grabbing parts from the warehouse. I have to reiterate, you need to read the website. Local store. One person. Hard to cover everything by himself. My hope ( and I'm sure Al's ) is that the storefront gets enough traction to warrant an employee. He's got a bunch of space and a lot of possibility.

I suppose that if the goal was to create a station devoid of loitering, then this was a great design. It's simply....basic. However, the best part of this station is the basic design. The old station required passengers going west (along Grand Avenue) to walk a large flight of stairs onto a busy overpass, cross that road and then walk down the overpass to Grand Avenue. The new station has a pedestrian underpass -- allowing you to get to Grand Avenue or Airport Blvd. much more safely and quickly. It really is appreciated after the sun goes down! I used to hate the old station. In fact, I preferred to drive from my home (in Palo Alto) just to avoid the hassle -- even though I had to pay for parking. This station has caused me to prefer taking Caltrain to any meetings in downtown South San Francisco. It's close enough (on foot) to most areas of the downtown that I don't need to bring a bike on the train. While I think that the station is simple (and the cost overruns and construction delays were annoying), this is a very nice and basic train station that might be overlooked for its simplicity. However, sometimes, "basic" is better than complex. It is in this case.
